I like a bit of car setup, its all part of the sport. But those guys in the league we ran (who were a very cool bunch of guys) spent hours upon hours on setups, too much for me. Give me a few adjustments to fit the car to my driving style, and let me get racing!
I haven't been on my PC in days, I need to download some of these mods.

See, if you allow setups, there's no fine line to tread. You either tweak the setup or you don't. You can't enforce "a few tweaks here and there", and somebody will spend forever practicing. It's just the nature of competitive league racing online, as it's been for years. In a fixed setup league, everybody is on an even playing field...you adapt to the car and to beat somebody you rely on your driving and adaptation; not practicing and tweaking.
It's a tough one to nail, because everybody's tastes differ. I'd rather be beaten by another driver in identical equipment than a gearhead lol.

I like no setups also it means everyone gets a chance, casual, hardcore, guy in between.
You can just race and know that when your getting lapped its cos shumacher is at the wheel and your Danica Patrick.
All you have to do is race not worry about getting out gearheaded like TC says.
PS
Thanks for reply TC.

Over the weekend I was messing around with my consoles and popped Forza back into my 360. Unless I'm going coo coo, it ran MUCH smoother than the last time I played it on my 360. Has anyone else noticed this? They must have upgraded the compatability drivers since the first ones that were posted, because there was a noticible frame rate drop when I originally gave it a go, which is no longer present.
I also tried Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike again, and it's frame rate issues were also gone. Very cool if they are continuing to tweak the drivers, as I'm sure there are other games that will benefit from what they are learning (...Toca! Toca! Toca!)

When they made Battlefront 2 and Winning Eleven backwards compatible, they issued patches to make previously BC games "work better". Forza was one of them, and yes, it was noticeable.Gurantsu wrote:Over the weekend I was messing around with my consoles and popped Forza back into my 360. I ended up having to re-install the OS before updating rFactor, but that will probably be a good thing in the long run. I hope to have it up later this evening.pigpen81 wrote:Don, any info on the server?...Jimmy and I connected last night on a dedicated server and it was great fun.
The mods on this are simply awesome.
Those of you that expressed interest in a league of some sort, I am looking at Tues, Wed, or Thurs as possibilities with 9:00pm or 10:00pm eastern as starting times. Let me know if you have a preference. I would love to make it Wed. at 9:00 to be followed by TOCA 3 racing on Xbox, but I realize LOST will be starting up soon and that could be a conflict.
Thanks Don, can't wait for the server to get up and running.
I say we do a different race each week with a mod like the Craftsman trucks, the VW's, the F1's from 79....etc....
I can't wait to do this....racing on R-Factor is super sweet thanks to a video card and great racing wheel Jimmy gave me.
We raced for a while last night and I feel we haven't sctratched the surface yet.

Nordschleife for rFactor in 3 layouts
There are several conversions of the Nurburgring already existing for rFactor, but today a new version was released that currently makes it the king, and the one to get.

There is a nice little site dedicated to it. Check out the screenshots in the Media section. The Nordschleife for rFactor comes with these 3 layouts - 24hour, Tourist and VLN. Each one with different objects and textures. 24h and VLN version include a shortcut through the last turn of the GP track (only in practice and qualymode). Different road materials with varying grip levels. Support for big grids

Wow, ISI is staying busy. They just released their version of Monza (called Brianza, I assume for licensing reasons), and it contains multiple configurations including the old banking as seen in the movie Grand Prix. Considering how much the locals in Monza are pushing for shutting down Monza entirely, these simulated versions may be all we have left in a few years.

Tried it out in Lo's Cobra from the Legend Mod and it is a fun drive.

PS - I still plan on having a DSP rFactor server up and running, but I have had all sorts of problems with my second machine. Sorry for the delay.

Set in the picturesque city of Milano, Italy, the Autodromo Nazionale della Brianza features varying layouts offering high-speed straights, tight corners and a historic oval.

Hudson Kerr is shutting down his rFactor Payware site that contains high resolution graphic updates for rFactor stock tracks like Mills, Toban, and Essington. He also has high resolution skies, a sky switching utility, and additional camera files. While payware add-ons are nothing new, the flight sim community has had them for years, Hudson took a big chance doing payware in the racing sim community which historically has expected everything for free.
I am a big supporter of the payware route for expanding PC based racing sims if the quality is there, and Hudson's updates are fantastic. I have purchased every single one of his updates since he started this venture back in January and I feel they were worth every penny.
Now that he is shutting down, the prices for these updates have been drastically reduced, and many are also available for free. The site itself and all the files available will be shutting down for good on Sunday Sept. 10, 2006 at 10:00pm EDT so get them while they are hot.
I have no personal gain here. I was a satisfied customer and if you are into rFactor and have a machine that can run it in all its graphical glory, you are sure to love these updates. While the site itself is very professional and has all the previews and details of each update, I also summarized what's available with links to additional free updates (like real world ads and logos), as well as previews and comparisons of screenshots before and after his updates.
You will be missed Hudson, thanks for all your hard work and attention to detail.

Team Players has relased the beta of their Porsche Fabcar Challenge mod for rFactor. This is from the work that was originally done for what was supposed to be a commercial Grand Am racing sim that never materialized.
It currently has 5 cars featuring the Brumos Porsche #59 car and the Red Bull #58. It needs some tweaking in the graphics department (does not work in Testing mode, only works in DX9, etc.). However, it is still really fun and worth the trial and error (that's why they call it a beta). Bob (Punko353) and Team Players are a great mod team and will no doubt keep this moving forward. In fact, in visiting their site, I see that they already have

I think the Brumos Porsche is the best looking car in the whole Grand Am series. The cockpit for this mod is probably one of the best I have seen for an rFactor mod to date. Check it out.

PS - That Sprint car mod posted above has been temporarily removed by Race Sim Central moderators as it appears to have used "unapproved" models from Nascar Racing 2003 and TOCA 3. Would be great to have a full fledged Sprint (WOO, Silver Crown, etc.) in rFactor.

More rFactor goodness. iDT has just released the v1150 compatible version of their Fun Cup Challenge Mod.
Check it out here - http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=VW%20FunCupiDT Fun Cup Challenge - New Release
15 September, 2006
For Immediate Release
Elisabeth Kron – Press Officer
iDT Simulations, LLC., Santa Ana, CA
Re: iDT Fun Cup Challenge
iDT Simulations, LLC., is pleased to announce both the next release of the iDT Fun Cup Challenge Mod for rFactor and the naming of iDT as the official game developer of the Fun Cup series.
In an exciting and groundbreaking move, the Fun Cup Challenge has been packaged as a full release game for those that don’t already own rFactor and is available for direct download from the Fun Cup website at http://www.fun-cup.com/game.html - The free Fun Cup add-on mod for rFactor will also be available from the iDT website, http://www.TeamiDT.net
Changes to the new release include compatibility with rFactor v1.150 and a restructuring of the team folders to allow for future expansion and inclusion of real teams and drivers. Due to licensing considerations, many of the previous fantasy liveries have been removed but are still available for download from rFactorCentral. One of the most exciting changes is the revised physics developed by actual Fun Cup drivers. With special help from Greg Clough, the Bernie Ecclestone of the Fun Cup Series, the driving feel of the Fun Cups is now spot on.
iDT would like to thank the team for their hard work, Greg for his involvement and enthusiasm and ISI for their work on the full Fun Cup package. With the Fun Cups soon coming to America, everyone is very excited for the future of the series and expansion of the iDT Fun Cup Challenge.

I will definitely be picking it up. As much as I like rFactor, the attention to detail that Simbin gives to the car modeling, sounds, tracks, and physics can't be beat. I am just hoping that they have improved the multiplayer code up to rFactor standards.dbdynsty25 wrote:GTR2 comes out this week...anyone else picking it up or has everyone just gravitated towards rFactor for good?
According to GoGamer, it has been shipped.

I am playing it right now and I LOVE IT!!! It has an rFactor/GTL feel to it. Of course there are obvious reasons why, but the cars feel so connected in this game. I didn't play the first one too much as I didnt get into sim racing until rF. GTR1 just feels real slippery, the cars feel like they float.
The new game has a great feel to it and I am really liking it.

I am getting the same if not better frames with GTR2 then I do in rFactor. I am getting WAY better frames than GTR1. I have a mediocre machine. This is with a lot of details turned to high and a few on full! I am VERY impressed with that and the smoothness of the game.
Forgot to add I am at DX8, but I don't notice much of a difference between 8 and 9.
