The Driving Force Pro is basically a later generation Momo wheel...when I want to use a FF wheel, the DFP beats the Momo to death. The Momos are choppier and have less fluidity in the springs.
And yeah, I've been driving the hell out of rFactor since the 1150 patch. I'm just surfing around looking for the best mods. Not a fan of that Nascar Acceleration one, but I do like the stock cars in the patch itself.
I'm looking for a good all-in-one site listing tracks, mods, etc.

wish I would have saw this post before I went to bed lol, but I won an auction on ebay and I just really put a pid in for the hell of it. I got a new/refurbished momo for 39 bucks shipped. I didnt think I would win it but that is pretty damn cheap! Terry, I will get in touch with you when i get it and we can definately get some racing done together. I'll be getting smoked just like the old days.

That site has been great the last month and continues to get better.
This one also has links to everything (official and unofficial, i.e. GTL/GTR conversions, etc.), but it is a little less organized. Go to the browse torrents option:

The black Momos are still damn good wheels, especially for the prices they are going for now, thats an awesome deal you got.SEMINOLE wrote:wish I would have saw this post before I went to bed lol, but I won an auction on ebay and I just really put a pid in for the hell of it. The Formula Nippons are sweet cars, I love the sound of them. My favorite track to race them on is Brands Hatch.
Someone did a Porsche Supercup mod that looks awesome, but I cannot run it without serious frame rate hits. It's a shame too, because they feel great, and I've seen them race for years as support for the USGP.
Just post what mods your using and when you want to go and I'll try to hop in.

rFactor Tracks:
As far as tracks go, there are a ton of "conversions of conversions" of tracks that have been around since the EA/ISI SCGT/F1 days. Not that they are bad, some are pretty well done, but they don't take full advantage of what rFactor has to offer and they look and feel very dated. Most add-on tracks I have tried, I had removed after a few laps. There are also quite a few GTR/GTL conversions. They are not officially supported by ISI, RSC, or Simbin, and many race sim forums will not allow discussion of them. I own 3 copies of GTR and 2 of GTL, so I don't think I am ripping anyone off by using these conversions. Oh and GTR2 is already pre-ordered.
Likewise, there were conversions of many TOCA 3 tracks that were not bad. However, Codemasters has blocked those as well. As with most things on the internet, you can still find them if you look hard enough, but out of respect to the developers I will not post links to them. GP4 and GPL conversions are being done, and those are not being banned.
Back in April there was a great rFactor track guide that covered every track that had been released to date for rfactor regardless of if it was scratch built, conversion, etc. It rated each track and provided technical details, screenshots, etc. Have not seen any updates to it, but it is still a great starting point, because like I said there are a ton of sub-par tracks that really aren't worth the download/install time.

Don...
You are, officially...THE MAN.
And Corey, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think the jump is drastic enough to warrant a hike over $39. That's a hell of a deal you got on it. You were fast before, and you'll be fast again, I'm sure. Hell, I've been racing it lately with the 360 controller and been surprised at how comfortable it is.

I need to get some mods. Actually, I have to do a fresh install as I formatted my PC not long ago. So I will be starting fresh lol. I am not sure what all to get. What are you messing with Terry?
Looks like I will be for sure getting Formula Nippon, Karts, and whatever else you guys are toying with. I will try to get some things installed tonight and make sure I remember how to do it all LMAO!!

Just an FYI: Of all the rFactor mods I've listed in the last couple days, the Karts are the most buggy. This is a small dev team and I believe it is their first mod. Not taking anything away from them, the main guy is an actual Karter and has put a ton of time and effort into it, but the AI is pretty broken (apparently due more to the v1150 patch), FPS is spotty, and online has CTDs and lockups. Don't get me wrong, it's still fun, and I love karting so it's not bad, but it's not as polished and does require more of a manual install to get it working.SEMINOLE wrote:Looks like I will be for sure getting Formula Nippon, Karts, and whatever else you guys are toying with.
From a Karting perspective, I am really looking forward to this game below:
KART Champions: On the Limit
http://www.s-egames.com/KART Champions is being developed by karters and gamers FOR karters and gamers worldwide. The expert mode will be a useful training tool for karters in the off-season and to stay sharp throughout the year.
Select from 32 karts, all of the top kart constructors have been included, an exclusive for KART CHAMPIONS. Names like CRG, Swiss Hutless, Birel, G.R. Racing, Zanardi Karts, Trulli Kart, GT Kart, and many more.
Renowed tracks from around the globe, including La Conca in Italy, Buckmore Park in the UK, and Stratotech Park in Canada.
http://www.bhmotorsports.com/KART

There is still not much info on release dates or demos, but from some previous press I believe it is running on the ISI gmotor engine that rFactor, GTR2, and GTL are based on.

=======================================================Team GSMF proudly presents the ADAC VW Lupo Cup 2003 Mod
Together with Matthias Meyer (http://www.meyer-racing.de) ex-Lupo Cup driver, we developed this mod with very realistic physics, sounds and graphics.
In this case, you are only able to change the tire pressure in the setup menu, like it was in the 2003 Lupo Cup.
The fact, that the VW lupo has a very short wheelbase and only tire pressure can be changed, you have to set this car up a bit different as other known
race cars.
This front wheel drive car normally has a huge amount of understeer, to avoid this, real Cup drivers increased their rear tire pressure.
In the Mod this means, that a front pressure of about 175 and a rear pressure of about 210 will help to decrease the problem of understeer.
But a negative aspect of this high tire rear pressure is a very "unstable" car under braking and lifting of the throttle. Here you have to find a good
balance of pressure and driving style! The tire heating is also very closely resembled to the real cup lupo. A smooth driving style will avoid (over)heating
of the tires, and a good throttle control is needed, because the front driven tires will develop much wheelspin, even when accelerating in 3rd or 4th gear.
That´s the theory, now lets drive!
Matthias Meyer and Team GSMF wish you alot of fun with this new mod.
Also, there have been 2 updates to the F1 1979 Demo - physics and graphics. By the way, I love this demo. The sounds are fantastic.

Is this the best?
Guys - I've decided I'm going to try and get into a racing sim and wanted to know if rFactor was the obvious choice. Are there any off the shelf games that are good? What about "Live for Speed", that looks to be the same sort of sim as rFactor?
I haven't invested in a wheel yet either, so I'd love some recommendations there too.
Thanks!

Re: Is this the best?
rFactor will definitely give you the most bang for your buck so to speak with types of racing, tracks, mods, etc. It also has some of the most solid online code out there if you want to get into racing online. ISI continues to support the product with new content and updates and there are so many mods and tracks in the works right now.PadresFan104 wrote:Guys - I've decided I'm going to try and get into a racing sim and wanted to know if rFactor was the obvious choice. Also, something I did not realize until yesterday, if you want to try out rFactor just download the v1150 version and right out of the box it will let you try out the BMW Sauber F1 as a demo. If you like it, then you just purchase online and input your regristration code for the full version.
GTR2 is coming late Sept/early Oct. (see previous posts for links to demo). GT Legends is also good fun, and you should be able to find it in US stores for $19.99 or less.
While the stockcar option in rFactor continues to improve, I still find myself going back to Nascar Racing 2003. That is until the full Nascar mod from The Pits comes out for rFactor.
You could always try out Grand Prix Legends, but as great as it is, I don't know if I would recommend it for someone just starting out with racing sims.
Live for Speed is good, but it is not very mod friendly and does not have quite the wide array of options of racing series and tracks as rFactor does. LFS has a very loyal fan base though, so maybe I am missing something. I do own it and every time there is a new update I install the patch and run a few laps, but for some reason it never grabs me for the long haul. It has an atmosphere that is at least a little fresh change from the ISI gmotor based games (rFactor, F1 Challenge, GTR, GT Legends, GTR 2).
For a wheel, go for the the Driving Force Pro from Logitech for a very good wheel at a cheap price (I got mine for $60 new). Definitely don't pay the suggested retail of $129.00
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ ... ENTID=7226
Or you could wait for the new model Logitech® G25 Racing Wheel which is supposed to be released in Oct. Sounds like a sweet wheel, but it will also cost $300.

it looks as if my new wheel may be here today. Anyone up for messing around with a few mods tonight or tomorrow night. Tonight may just be a session of getting bugs worked out with the game and wheel, but I can't pass up rubbing elbows online LOL. Heck I have more fun doing that than actually racing sometimes. When someone crashes you just wait hehe

I ended up getting GTL, and I also downloaded the rFactor demo. Will probably wait a while on the wheel, but I am using the XBOX360 controller which is working really well since I have both the analog bas/brake and steering. No rumble though, with any of the available controller drivers, so that's a bit of a drag.
Been running GTL with some assists and having fun so far.

edit Oops sorry in Rfactor im talking
Ok can somone help me out here ?
Whenever i do a race session and go to qualifying and enter pits after 12th lap it keeps sending me back out and i get dq'd
How do i stop it from taking me on another lap ? turn auto pits off?.
And at the end of the race, after the checkered flag same thing it doesnt like auto end if you know what i mean.
For instance in F1 challenge after a session it woul go to next automaticly or would give race results.
Do you have to do it all manually or what ? i never see the finish sessin button highlight at the end of a race.

If you never see the Finish Session highlighted, then it's already done. As soon as the last car crosses the finish line, it's over and there's no way to "finish" the session...it's ended already, despite the fact that you can continue to drive around.
As far as the pitting thing, I'm not sure. I always do it manually, but I thought I remembered seeing a button to pit and a button to cancel. If you have a forced pit stop during a race and you cancel, you're screwed. I could be thinking of the EA Nascar games, though...lol. I always do the pitting manually, anyway. They give you a huge red glowing box and a big "STOP!" in your stall so it's tough to miss.

Alright, so all this rFactor stuff has me motivated again to do some more online racing. Maybe even a league like we had a few years ago with NR2003. I am going to start by getting my dedicated server up and running again. Maybe just start off with some casual racing, like a "Triathalon" of sorts where each week focusing on a different series and track. Anyone interested?

I purchased the license last night. Jimmy and I tried for an hour to connect online with no luck. We need help.
Also, the racing is not smooth for me....the FPS. I have a G-Force 4 MX card. It races similarly to GT Legends. Unless I can smooth it out some there is now way I can handle it...to hard on the eyes.
Any suggestions for speeding up my video card? I have all the settings on low.
I really want to race this game as the short time I had with it looked great.

Don, I'm in if it's some sort of fixed setup deal.
Nothing worse to me than having to tweak a set up for 20 hours a week just to compete. The deal that Cory, Grant, and myself ran in for a bit was like that. There were the typical 4 or 5 guys up front who did nothing but turn 1,000 laps on each track that week tweaking a setup, then the mid-packers like me that turned about 100 to get ready, and then the backmarkers that literally just connected and ran.
I don't mind that kind of mix, but I've always enjoyed fixed setup gigs the most, by far.
