I'm in but unsure if I want to run it again. If I do I'll want the rules agreed to before the draft by everyone in the league and everyone will have to be paid up before the draft as well. It shouldn't cost me double to play in a league I run.

Scoop,

Why don't we summarize last year's rules here and get our arguments and changes out of the way prior to the draft? Nobody gets in the draft room without paying Scoop first.

That way there are no surprises or serious arguments at the draft and Scoop can rest easy as all accounts are current.

Sice we had some funky rules last year and many arguments about them, I suggest we use WCOFF (world championship of fantasy football) rules which are pretyy much standard in the industry:
2. Draft: Each WCOFF Satellite League will hold a separate online draft. Each league will be composed of 12 teams, and each draft will last for 20 rounds, with each team selecting a player in each round in a serpentine fashion (team 1 through team 12, team 12 through team 1, team 1 through team 12, etc.). There are no rules governing the number of players to be drafted at each position. It is up to the skill and draft strategy of each team owner to decide.

a. time limit per pick: Each participant will have 2 minutes to make a player selection. After the time expires, the software will automatically select a player.

3. Roster Requirements: Maximum of 20 players.

4. Lineups Requirements:

Starting lineups will consist of 1 QB 2 RB 3 WR 1 TE 1 Flex player (a RB or WR, or TE) 1 PK 1 Team Defense/Special team

(If no Week One lineup is submitted, the WCOFF will determine your starting line up. After Week One, if no starting lineup is submitted, your starting lineup will be that of the previous week.)

5. Scoring: An individual offensive player on any active starting roster will be credited points for scoring in the following manner, unless otherwise noted:

a. Passing: Yards passing divided by 20 (e.g. 215 passing yards = 10.75 fantasy points). 4 points for every passing TD. Minus one point (-1) for every interception thrown. 2 points for every 2-point conversion.

b. Rushing: Yards rushing divided by 10 (e.g. 89 rushing yards = 8.9 fantasy points). 6 points for every rushing TD. 2 points for every 2-point conversion.

c. Receiving: Yards receiving divided by 10 (e.g. 112 receiving yards = 11.2 fantasy points) 6 points for every receiving TD. 1 point for every catch. 2 points for every 2-point conversion.

d. All Other TDs: 6 points for any TD scored by recovered or returned fumbles, laterals, or any other means by which a skill position player (QB, RB, WR, TE, or K) is awarded an individual TD, except kickoff and punt returns. No rushing or receiving yardage is awarded for a TD returned on a fumble.

Placekicking: 1 point for every Extra Point 3 points for every FG of 1 - 30 yards plus .1 point for every yard thereafter. Example: a 43-yard FG would be worth 4.3 points

f. Team Scoring (Defense/Special Teams): 1 point for every sack 2 points for every team takeaway (interception or fumble recovery)** 6 points for every TD (via interception return, fumble return, punt or kickoff return, blocked FG return, missed FG return, blocked punt return)* 2 points for every safety 5 points for every shutout *** 2 points for allowing between 1- 5 points *** 1 point for allowing between 6 - 10 points ***

* TDs scored on "fake" FGs or "fake" punts do NOT count as Defense/Special Teams scoring. TDs scored by the offensive team after a blocked FG or blocked punt do NOT count as a Defense/Special teams score. TDs scored on a double-turnover only count for the individual player who scored the TD, not for the team.

** A double turnover is considered points for the recovering team's defense and ST. Thus, an example, team A's offense fumbles and team B's defense recovers, but then fumbles the ball back to team A's offense. In that scenario team A's defense and special teams (along with team B's defense and ST) are both awarded a fumble recovery.

*** Any and all points scored against a team are considered points scored against the special teams and defense. Thus, as an example, a turnover by the offense that is returned for a TD is considered as points scored against the special teams and defense.

Our league rules from last year were as follows:

12 teams divided into 3 divisions.

Starting lineup requirements:
1 QB
4 WR/RB (either 1 RB/3 WR's | 2 RB's/2 WR's | or 1 WR/3 RB's
1 TE
1 K
1 ST/Def

We used ESPN fantasy football and the following scoring (if I recall correctly):
QB's = 1 point for every 25 yards passing, 6 points for any touchdown, -1 for interceptions (I can't recall if you received -1 for getting sacked)

RB's = 1 point for every 10 yards rushing, 6 points for any touchdown, 1 point for every 10 yards receiving, -1 for fumbles

WR's = 1 point for every 10 yards receiving, 6 points for any touchdown, 1 point for every 10 yards rushing, -1 for fumbles

TE's = 1 point for every 10 yards receiving, 6 points for any touchdown, 1 point for every 10 yards rushing, -1 for fumbles

K's = 3 points for FG's up to 39 yards, 4 points for FG's 40-49 yards, and 5 points for FG's 50+ yards (I think I remember this correctly)

ST/Def = Don't recall exactly

Draft rules = Each round alternated between 1-12 and 12-1. Each team was required to draft 16 players. Roster limitations were as follows: 2 QB's, 4 RB's, 4 WR's, 2 TE's, 2 K's, and 2 ST/Def's.

There were some very vocal anti-roster limitation members of the league. I chose to use roster limitations for 2 major reasons: 1) NFL rosters are limited so teams cannot stockpile skill position players 2) By limiting the number of skill players selected and limiting the roster size to 16 there would be players available through free agency/waivers and still provide the ability to trade.

One member did not pay his dues. This caused me to prolong paying out the money for the 1st and 2nd place team before finally eating the cost myself so they could get paid. Whoever runs the league needs to ensure that everybody is paid up BEFORE the draft.

The rules were clearly posted before the draft last year yet there were a number of people who were unhappy with some of the rules (namely the roster limitations) and chose to heavily voice their displeasure during the draft. I had encouraged league members to voice their opinions in the thread after posting the rules but nobody responded. I thought everybody was cool with the rules until getting lambasted on draft day. Needless to say my favorite part of the fantasy football season (draft day) was not enjoyable to me at all.

Despite the problems I still thought the season went well and everyone had fun. At least nobody told me they didn't. I have no interest in playing in a league with 12 teams that draft 20 players as that takes away free agency completely. If that's what the majority wants then I have no problem giving my slot to someone else. I just want to have fun. It's hard enough to get 2 solid running backs on your team with roster limitations, I don't see it being much fun with stockpiling. Of course that's just my opinion.
I am a patient boy.

The ESPN site interface sucked--Yahoo's is better.

I was the vocal opponent of the roster limits. Hard capped 4 WR and 4 RB limits throughout the season made it tough to fill starting lineups during bye weeks. And don't get me started on keeping 2 kickers rostered for the entire season.

Keeper leagues are a blast. I've been doing a pair of them over at Fanball.com (formerly Exit42) that have been going for about 7yrs now.

If there's a spot in this year's league, I'm interested.

Different rule sets have been posted but nobody is putting any input in other than "I'll play with whatever rules." Can we get some preferences from people so we can decide what type of league everybody wants?

Okay, my suggestions:

--Last year's scoring rules for the most part (I don't like points for catches, yards and scores are what count).

We could bump down QBs to 4 pts for TDs as that's pretty standard.

DST scoring is 6 points for any TD or 2 points for a safety. If your special teams are on the field, they get the score, even on fakes.

10 points for a DST shutout, 5 for 2-7 points allowed.

--Rosters:
9 starters: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex RB/WR/TE, 1 DST, 1 K

7 bench players. Flexible bench options, but the following hard caps -- 3 QB, 5 RB, 5 WR, 3 TE, 2 DST, 2 PK

2 IR spots, healthy players MUST come off IR

--Tiebreakers
Best bench score, otherwise game is a tie. I think we had too many ties last year and this at least rewards depth.

Here's the scoring system we use for our hardcore stat-head league. I don't expect it to be adopted, but it's innovative, accurate, and a measure of how much time me and about 10 other people who have larger brains than I put into it :)

The scoring was created by a friend of mine who's a PhD astrophysicist working on Hubbell (for now anyway) and another who's a professor of logistics with a PhD in math LOL

BTW, for my money we should do away with the TE requirement.

Scoring for Offensive Categories
FG - Field Goals 30 points
Plus 10 points for a FG of 30 to 39 Yds
Plus 20 points for a FG of 40 to 44 Yds

Plus 50 points for a FG of 55 to 59 Yds
Plus 70 points for a FG of 60 to 64 Yds
Plus 90 points for a FG of 65+ Yds

FL - Fumble Lost, Including ST plays -45 points
IKRTD - Individual Kick Return TD 60 points
IKRYd - Individual Kick Return Yards 1+ IKRYd = 0.5 points for every 1 IKRYd

IPRTD - Individual Punt Return TD 60 points
IPRYd - Individual Punt Return Yards 1+ IPRYd = 1 point for every 1 IPRYd

MFG - Missed Field Goal Plus -30 points for a MFG of 1 to 35 Yds
Plus -10 points for a MFG of 36 to 45 Yds

MXP - Missed Extra Point -20 points
Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 30 points
PaAtt - Passing Attempt -2 points

Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 30 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 60 points
ReYd - Receiving Yards 1.5 points
Recpt - Reception -3 points
Ru2P - Rushing Two-point Conversion 30 points
RuAtt - Rushing Attempt -4 points
RuTD - Rushing TD 60 points
RuYd - Rushing Yards 2 points
XP - Extra Points 10 points

Scoring for Defensive Categories
BFB - Blocked Field Goals (ID/ST/DST) 25 points
BP - Blocked Punts (ID/ST/DST) 25 points
DFR - Defensive/ST Fumble Recovered (ID/DT/DST) 45 points
DTD - Total Defensive and Special Teams TD 60 points
Int - Interceptions 45 points
PA - Points Against, Total Points Scored 0 - 0 PAs = 75 points
1 - 6 PA = 50 points
7 - 13 PA = 30 points
14 - 20 PA = 20 points
21 - 24 PA = 0 points
25 - 35 PA = -20 points
36+ PAs = -40 points

SACK - Sack 20 points
STY - Safety 30 points
YDS - Yards Allowed 0 - 150 YDSs = 75 points

I like all of these suggestions, although 7 bench bench players is a ton and allows teams to horde prospects that they take a flyer with during the draft. I'd like to see 5 bench spots, but that's my only suggestion (everything else I like, including standard type yards/TD scoring).

We could always do a Yahoo or NFL.com league with whatever their set rules are.

Brando, WR's did not receive points for receptions last year, only yards and touchdowns.

I know, sorry, I was referring to the rule Snate shared.

Rob's post made me feel very stupid.

I like keeping the TE. Every NFL team uses them, so I think fantasy teams should too.

I'd also be good with a 10 starters (using 3 WR)/6 bench setup. I find 16 is a good number for rosters. Fewer than that and you run into unnecessary bye week problems, more than that and people hoard.

I also vote for roster flexibility with reasonable caps. Usually +2 over the maximum number of QBs, RBs, or WRs that you could start works (so 3 QBs, 5 RBs, and 5-6 WRs, depending on if you must start 2 or 3). If you can't manage a starting line up with those caps, you're not managing your team properly.

The problem is that every NFL team uses them differently. Too large a % of the production is concentrated in too few players, which screws up the market a lot. Lumping them in with WR's makes much more sense, as the good TE's are still useful, but nobody gets stuck starting one of the glorified tackles or FB's that pass for TE's in some systems.
