IGN is typically a push-over when it comes to giving decent scores, so it's perhaps even more troubling that they are so pessimistic about Top Spin.

Let's hope the reviewer knows the difference between a slice to a topspin shot.Sport73 wrote:IGN is typically a push-over when it comes to giving decent scores, so it's perhaps even more troubling that they are so pessimistic about Top Spin.

Boy, sure it took awhile but the game it's finally here. Or the next 24 hours or so. Who's picking it up? Got mine pre-ordered and here's the 1st review of the game.

That isn't exactly exciting me...but hopefully it doesn't show up too often. Eesh. At least it's a 40 dollar gamble instead of 60.The in-game action of Top Spin 2 is much like its predecessor, but a bit less smooth. There’s a slight hiccup from animation-to-animation that throws the gameplay off a bit. It usually happens when a passed ball animation is being loaded, or when a ball is too close to a player’s feet. It also seems like this possible program anomaly affects a player’s ability to return a nearly out-of-reach ball, even on clay. Players seem to give up on balls which aren’t that far away, as it appears some of the queued-up animations put an end to the effort.
And Sharapova...not that hot.

I just don't know about this title. It's quite discouraging that this game was pushed back, but even more so that there are problems with the gameplay. Besides what Db pointed out, I don't like that there's no way of hitting the ball long or in to the net if you simply use the face buttons minus the risk shots.
I'm going to wait to hear impressions from others before I make a decision. Sometimes, for whatever reason it seems like we play a different game than the game the reviewers use for their review.

Exactly. How can they come off calling this a tennis sim when there's a button that allows you to get the ball in 100% of the time (provide that you reach it in time). That sounds like pure-arcade to me. Getting the ball back and in-bounds is more than just being able to run and get to it in time. Some of these pros can hit a heavy topspin straight at another player and the other guy will still make an error even though he had plenty of time to get it back. This one is a rent-first for me (which is tough, being a huge fan of tennis and playing the game as well). PS. Dan, whenever you're ready bud... lets go knock the ball around.sportdan30 wrote:I don't like that there's no way of hitting the ball long or in to the net if you simply use the face buttons minus the risk shots.
db - I'm with you on Sharapova...not that hot. Decent looking for a tennis pro, but I've seen far prettier faces and much better T&A walking through the shopping mall on a Saturday afternoon.

I too am going to pick this game up even though I have major reservations.dbdynsty25 wrote:I'll have it tomorrow I'm sure...no one got it in today yet.
Now, don't give me grief but I'm trading in Oblivion. I simply do not have enough hours in the day to play this game, and after the first night I haven't really had a real strong yearning to go back to it. I can get $35 back in credit, and seeing that I paid $45, it was a $10 rental.

I got mine at Best Buy and they had 10 copies. This is the 4th or 5th straight new release that I've purchased at Best Buy on the same date that I could have picked up a preorder from Gamestop. I really have no reason to go to the specialty stores anymore with the 10% off coupons, price matches, rewards, *and* getting the game at the same time as EB/GS. It doesn't seem to be hurting them:vader29 wrote:Just got home with my copy. The kid at Gamestop said it was a good thing I preordered it as it was the only copy they got in.

Just picked up my pre-order at EB. Are we getting stiffed here north of the border or what? I know you guys are getting it for $40 US which is about $50 or so CDN. But I got charged $70 bucks.
Unfortunately, I just got called on an overseas trip tomorrow and won't be able to play it, but I look forward to your impressions. For one, if it's good I won't mind the steep $70 bucks but I think everyone else is getting it for $40 US, correct?

$40 US is correct. And I as well am enjoying the impressions. I had been holding off on buying a 360 a: couldn't find one b: waiting for MotoGP 2006. I didn't expect tp 2 to sound as good as it is sounding. Most previews and even 1 review yesterday had it sounding as though it was barely better than tp 1.
However now you guys are forceing me to break down, there were three at target the other day the girlfriend found for me. Whew, willpower, must resist the pull of tennis. How does Indian Wells look? We go every year. Sorry babbleing.

I got mine from Blockbuster here for $49.99 CDN. futureshop.ca website shows it for $49.99 CDN as well.10spro wrote:Just picked up my pre-order at EB.
