smart move, I think the 59 dollar tag on alot of games will hurt sales by a margin greater than the income they will get from the extra 10 bucks.

I have never played a tennis game, I might have to try this.

Thanks for the link Badgun. For that price, it's worth pre-ordering. Although, April seems like an eternity away when it's f'n snowing here in St. Louis!

THanks for the pointer! Take2 should do this with College Hoops as well. With the late release, I think it is their only chance to get some good sales.

I'm not sure that $39.99 is a special pre-order price. That might be retail (which is good and bad news). Good that it's cheap, bad that they think they need to put the price that low in order to attract gamers to buy it. The graphics and videos from previews aren't terribly awe-inspiring, and while the gameplay of the original Top Spin was fun, it got old online due to the cheesers and lack of online doubles with 4 people connected at once. If it's Top Spin 1 with a graphical makeover, I think many people won't want to buy it (me included, even being a tennis nut and loving the 1st game).

Every other website I've cheked says $59.99.

Anyways, if they do oficially announce it at $40 you could cancel the pre order since they won't charge you until the game ships.

Yeah, that's why I went ahead and preordered it. I doubt they are going to drop the price before release, but if they do, I'll just cancel and get it at the store.

I don't know. Color me unimpressed. Not sure what it is, but nothing seems 'next-gen' about this game at all.

Have you seen the environments? They have all of the "real" stadiums...Wimbledon, US Open, French, Aussie, etc. I think it looks fantastic. I expected better player animation, which to me doesn't scream next gen, but every other aspect does.

The video with the guys playing in the shade under the trees looks next gen enough for me. This is the title that I was most looking forward to since the 360's release, I just hope it doesn't get delayed any more than it has been so far.

Yeah, looks like 39.99 is going to be the price for TS.

I'm cancelling my ebgames.com pre order.

Which begs the question...if they can do this with one 360 game, why can't they do it with the rest?

Its probably more of a friggin port than all of the other 2k games. I am NOT saying it will be bad, but I am sure more work went into both the 2K6 basketball games than this. I am excited for it as I LOVED the first one. It came with my Xbox when I bought it and I played the crap out of it. Heck, with just some tweaks here and there and a graphics upgrade and the game will be a golden 360 title for us sports fans!

Top Spin 2 (360) impressions from Lobsterix @ Gamefaqs (Played the full version at the Tennis Channel Open)

The game seems much different this time around, no holding left or right to long for angle shots anymore. The star system goes up to 60 stars now. Instead of ITZ meter it has been replaced with an advanced shot meter. I personally think the game flow is unbelievably accurate. Sorry if this information has been posted before, I just was excited to play the game. Well I gotta go people, I gotta get to the arena to see the semi-finals, I've been there everyday since it started (man I'm such a nerd).

Okay the star system is now up to 60 stars per character (even though federer in the game has 75) you can put your stars in the following:
Forehand
Backhand
Speed
Volley
Service
Accuracy (I think)
and there is a couple more that I forgot

The ITZ meter has been replaced with a advanced shot meter, meaning every time you score a point the meter goes up. When the meter gets to a certain button, lets say B (the topspin button), you can hold the left trigger and the the B button for a fast curved topspin that can never go out no matter how long you hold the angle. Doing it with slice is the advanced drop shot, doing it with lob is the advanced lob etc..

No more playing the pros. online, only characters you made. Volley guys aren't god anymore and baseline players can beat out volley players making it well balanced.

The Risk Shot has totally changed, you hold right trigger and press b for the topspin risk shot, hold right trigger and push x for the drop shot, and pressing the a button and right trigger for the safe risk shot, now the risk meter is different it's much like the service meter in say like virtua tennis. I say that because at the way top of the meter is when you must let go unlike the middle in the first one, and let me tell you the timing is very difficult (eliminating all those risk shot cheaters online).

The pros. in the game actually look more like themselves this time (of course it's next gen graphics).

Oh and when you serve with topspin or slice the little notch has to be 50 percent or over the meter or you will hit the net, and of course just like the first one the higher you get it on the meter the more powerful it is, but the higher it is in topspin 2 also determines the better angle you can hit it at. And about the risk serve, it's hard to get and time as well, so people will be serving with slice or topspin more often.

The actual in game play flows nicely, sometimes you can't even hold the C-stick for maybe a second and sometimes your topspin goes out. This makes the player being able to hit angles while running (especially Coria). They used motion capture for all the pros this time. I talked to the developer and beat him at the game for a free topspin game for playstation 2. So getting back on subject, they fixed the animation glitch, the one where the character chases after the ball holding his racket out as well as a few more bugs.

Besides all that at the actual tournament I got my ball autographed by James Blake himself (my favorite player), and got to talk to him at the tent for 15 min. Let me tell you he is one of the nicest guys on the tour.

Oh and from what I saw there were no legends to pick from and the developer wouldn't get into that.

BTW the developer said that the demo should be out soon.

Okay, okay, they have two outfits that you can pick from. For example, Roddick has his white, and his red shirt and white pants. The developer did say there might be more than two to pick from, but considering the game comes out the fourth of April I doubt it. All of the pros really look like themselves except Haas, he has his long hair. Now I didn't play the women so but I know Sharapova, Dementieva are in it. The roster for the mens is.

Andy Roddick
Roger Federer
James Blake
Tommy Haas
Evans
Coria
Tim Henman
Leyton Hewitt (I think)
Carlos Moya
Sebastian Grosjean

There might be more I don't remember.
Keep in mind they used motion capture for all of the pros. Meaning Federer animation of hitting the ball is just like he hits it in real life (it is actually quite scary how close it is). The same for the rest of the pros, the move and hit just like they do in real life, some times it's hard to determine if you're watching a real match or not.

As for your question sonic, I don't really know about the online doubles because I didn't ask, sorry.

But I'll tell you right now, this is the best tennis game to ever come out IMO, because it is the most accurate, well balanced, and most realistic tennis game. Fans of the first one will jump for joy when they score points, because rallys last a whole lot longer, and when you finally get that one good topspin in winning the point you really feel like you earned it. All tennis fans should pick this one up, either that or put a gun to your head for the fact that you don't own it.

I also wanted to to know about the women too John, but remember other people wanted to play too, plus wanting to see live matches were a higher priority. Also the developer did not say why it was $40.

As for your question Hammer, I know I've been excited and beefing up the game. But to be frank, the graphics aren't as good as I thought they were going to be. However the graphics do a good job of stadiums looking like their real counterparts, this goes for the characters as well. Now I didn't get to play career mode so I don't know how detailed the player maker graphics and selections are.

As for me, I used to play the original Topspin up to 5 to 8 hours in a day (1 or 2 usually). So as you can see I'm very excited about this release. However I'm going to be honest, the ball moves slower than the first, I did encounter one animation glitch (I guess tennis games will never be perfect), and the graphics are next-gen but not like Fight Night Round 3, or CoD2. But these are just minor things in a big picture, and for that it makes this sports game a very good one.

The developer did say that their would be multiple seasons and all that is pretty much is like years. However he didn't say anything about you would be forced into retirement, but he did say ranking to number one and staying there would be very hard this time around (personally I think that is a good thing), so he says. he also said the tournaments will take place in chronological order, just like in real life. Now I don't know about how many games per set and sets you will play in the career mode, it didn't cross my mind to ask him.

Yes Tormenta that is correct, no pros will be available to use online (at least that's what he said). Well considering that Federer has 75 stars and Roddick has something like 70 stars (or something like that). Now keep in mind when creating a player you can only use up to 60 stars.

I think the developer guy said there was like 110 star slots that could be filled, but you could only use 60 stars of a created player.

That risk shot in the first game is what drove me nuts and it seems that they have improved it now. Rosters ain't bad, I guess they are missing Nadal among top players and D. Nalbandian. Looking forward to the release.

I was checking the new trailers and demos last night and got excited seeing Top Spin there, thought there was a demo up but it was just the video. Video looks great though, really looking forward to the game in a couple of weeks.

Check out topspin2.com when you have time. Cool looking website. Be sure to look at the different arenas and the video clips of them. The stadiums look very impressive.

It looks as though there are 6 playground courts, 2 minor pro courts, a few major pro courts, and then the grand slam courts. I wonder if there is too few professional courts though.
