I tried opengl and it seems to be working now. However when I switch from the main driving screen to the screen that has a small window and gives the times etc I get contant flickering. If I then exit this screen i get a windows error box and the game closes. Any ideas ? The frame rate seemed quite slow in open gl as well.

I got GT Legends and cranked everything up. Shader DX9, high res wheels, cockpit, etc. Draw Distance very far, whatever option I could find to turn up, I turned up.

I haven't had a problem except when initially pulling out of the pits for practice laps, it chugs for about 2 or 3 seconds while it's loading everything up? I dunno, haven't had a single thing to complain about here.

Heh, and you have a kick-ass machine as well if I remember correctly. What are your system specs again? :)

piggy and packmanuk04. fill in the blanks of this template below:

Hardware Specifications:
CPU:
Video Card Manufacturer/Chipset and Memory:
Video Card Driver Version and Date:
AGP/PCI/or PCIe:
System Memory:
Motherboard:
Operating System:
Direct X Version:
Sound Card and Driver:

packmanuk04 - one thing about GPL is that it runs in letterbox mode. Even if you get it working to your liking, it does not fill up the whole screen. This was one of the ways they got around the limitations of CPUs and graphics cards from the mid 90's when this game was being developed. Once you get used to it you will hardly notice that it is not full screen. One thing that usually causes the flickering issues is AA/AF turned on with your graphics card. Try turning it off. I run the game in D3D with no problems in game driving, but I do get flickering in the menus from time to time. This is pretty much unavoidable from what I have read.

Yeah, it's not a bad system by any means, but it's not the be-all, end-all either...

Athlon 4000, 2GB PC3200 DDR RAM, Radeon X800

I think that's the basics. It runs everything pretty damn well, though.

I've searched everywhere this afternoon and can't find a program called 3dconfig for gpl. I found a version for f12002 or something but that doesn't work on gpl. Can someone please point me in the direction of this file.

Thanks

I don't recall ever downloading a seperate file called 3dconfig for any of my racing games. Is it maybe in the GPL folder somewhere?

Sorry guys, I confused everyone by posting information pertaining to Papyrus' GPL (Grand Prix Legends) in the same thread that I was also posting information pertaining to Simbin's GT Legends. GT Legends is the game that has the config program outside of the main program where you set DX9, DX8, DX7, etc. For GPL all the graphics and resolution settings are done within the game. Sorry for the confusion there.

Ah, thought I missed something there for a second.

Just a question while I'm here; is there any way to add AI cars to the multiplayer in GTR? I just got a second copy and would like to set up a race with a buddy with AI cars also, but methinks it's not going to happen. At least rFactor has that option!

Speaking of which, I tried the official beta patch with the stock cars in it last night, and it was pretty decent. I only messed around at Joesville speedway (the short oval), but they were fun. Should be quite the mod once the rules and stuff they need to clean up are finished. I guess that means we're in for more ovals! :?

A very cool new official add-on is coming tonight for rFactor. It is a fictional rally track in the Alps with 5 configurations made by Scott Juliano, the creator of the Birmingham (Barber Motorsports Park) track. There will be two new rally type cars released as well. And there is also a big online team based racing competition that will be held over 5 weekends. From http://www.rfactor.net/ -
03.06.06 - Lienz Festival der Geschwindigkeit

We are currently putting the finishing touches on the Lienz Festival der Geschwindigkeit add-on. It is scheduled to be released Tuesday evening, March 7th. This update will come in .zip format and should be applied to the current 1070 release version. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy viewing this video (WMV 36MB) of some of the action at Lienz. Read on and view the video...

http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=n ... lienzvideo
Check out the official web site for the track here:

http://lienzfestival.org/

And here is the website for the signup for the official racing event held April 1 - 30, 2006. Anyone interested in forming a team?

http://raceralex.com/
I'd like to present an open invitation to any and all on-line racing leagues (and anyone, for that matter) that use rF to please consider entering a team/s in the upcoming Lienz Festival.

Teams are made up of two drivers, and each driver will run alternating weekends for the five weekends of the Festival (other than the opening time tryouts weekend, where all drivers need to set their best times for the team to move on). For full event details please check out the lastest addition of Auto-Sim Sport -- http://www.autosimsport.com

The folks at RACER, ISI, the talented individuals working on the cars, and I (along with many others behind the scene) are doing our very best to make this Festival something extra special, and I just wanted to personally invite everyone to come participate in the fun. And, to top it all off, we'll have "door" prizes, prizes for individual race winners, and a pair of Logitech Momo's for the overall Festival winning team. So, you get to race, have fun, and possibly "take home" some cool stuff to boot.

Please note that the number of initial entries is limited, so get your teams together now so you're ready to fill out the entry form when it goes online, which is March 6th, I believe. PLease visit the Lienz forum section at RACER -- http://raceralex.com -- for more details.

We hope to see you all there....

Sincerely (on behalf of the entire Lienz team),
Scott

4/ai fuel allowance is now correct without changing track ini

5/ai performance matched to player car without changing track ini

6/new updated Hwng carset representing the early part of 1969

7/new Lwng carset including BRM p139 representing the later part of the 1969 season,

ISI has just released the change log for the next rFactor patch and it is a huge number of updates. This should mean that the patch will be out this weekend. Unfortunately, it does not appear to contain the Panoz Esperante ( http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=news_06-05panoz ) or the F1 BMW Sauber ( http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=n ... 5bmwsauber ) that were both announced by ISI a few months ago. However, it does contain a bunch of new tracks and configurations that are looking really good:

Circuits:

Barcelona - Permanent Road Course
http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=barcelona_details

Jacksonville Speedway (basically Daytona) - High Banked Superspeedway
http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=j ... le_details

Lienz Rally Hillclimb - Rally Course
http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=lienz_details

Montreal - Permanent Road Course
http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=montreal_details

Northamptonshire (Silverstone) - Permanent Road Course
http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=n ... on_details

Nuerburg - Permanent Road Course

GTR 2 Demo!

Post by DChaps »

The GTR 2 Demo has just been released:
It’s green flag for the first test drives with the GTR 2 demo.

With the demo the player can go the full distance on a complete racing weekend with their choice of training, qualifying, warm-up and the race itself. Both beginners and pros can test themselves against 14 virtual drivers based on the unique artificial intelligence.

The player can choose between two teams with truly hot machines for the world-famous Barcelona Grand Prix course: the Team G.P.S. Giesse Squadra Corse with its Ferrari F575 and the Team DAMS with its Lamborghini Murciélago.

With the introduction of the new Time-Trial Mode nothing stands in the way of the first multiplayer contests. In this mode players can easily save their laps and post the file on the Internet for comparison with other drivers.

Extending the ground-breaking physics engine found in GTR, GTR 2 takes the thrill of driving to new heights. GTR 2, which is the official simulation of the FIA GT championship, features more than 140 high detailed cars and 34 different track-layouts in a hyper realistic racing world with breathtaking real-world-like effects. With a revolutionary Driving School Mode, GTR 2 will teach everybody how to become a real race driver. The demo version gives you the chance to drive one of two FIA-GT class cars against up to 15 computer controlled opponents, at the Barcelona GP circuit.

Please note that this is a work-in-progress demo and may not exactly reflect the features or quality of the final product.
Here are some download locations for the demo:

Don, I am happy to hear you are back in the mix. Thanks for the updates and keep them coming!

Question, is GTR the system hog that GT Legends is? Frye's has it for $15 but I am worried about the chugginess I have with GT Legends.

The original GTR is the older engine so is much less of a resource hog than GTL. It should run fine for you.

Finally got a chance to try the GTR2 demo. Looks a lot like the original, which is a good thing, although it uses a new engine with gradual lighting changes instead of needing to load a whole new track when it gets dark. You do see the drivers hands on the wheel now if you want. Handling and all of the car options are just as in-depth as always. Interface is different, but still very familiar if you've played the original.

Frame rate was smooth as silk. I left all defaults except upped the resolution to 1280x1024 and it ran great with a field of 12 total cars. I'll have to try again and turn up some stuff to see what effects it has, but so far it's looking good. Also, you cannot turn on the in-car mirrors in the demo either, so that certainly could have an effect . This will be on my purchase radar when it gets released in September (as will the Xbox 360 version when that comes out).

I played around a bit with the GTR2 demo. The big problem I had (other than the frequent off-course excursions) was the brightness/gamma. I couldn't find an adjustment within the game or setup so I had to adjust my display properties to snowblindness levels in order for the demo to be playable.

The rFactor Update v1.150 has been released. Go here for features list:

http://www.rfactor.net/?page=news_07-20_updatefeatures

8.1.06 - v1150 Update Released!

Image Space Incorporated has released the latest update to rFactor bringing it up to version 1.150. A lot of work has gone into this update and there are many new features and changes. Click here to read the feature list and then click here to download the torrent file.

NOTE: This is a full update and not a patch. It is highly recommended that you backup your current rFactor folder and perform a clean install of rFactor making sure there aren't any issues, then apply your mods.
For those of you that have a huge list of tracks and mods installed already for rFactor, I have heard that it seems to work just fine to install this over the top of an existing install, but your results may vary. At least back up your current install before trying this.

Mirrors to the update can be found here:

http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cf ... r%20Update

Oh yeah, and kind of a suprise was that the 2006 BMW Sauber F1 was actually included in the patch.
BMW Sauber F1 v1.0
By: ISI
Origin: Scratch | Real World
Initial release: 01-Aug-06
Current release: 1.0, on 01-Aug-06

2006 BMW Sauber F1, 2006 Open Wheel Challenge Series. It is available in the rFactor 1150 update.

BMW Sauber F1 is part of the Open Wheel Challenge Series.
PS - Now that the patch is out, there are quite a few mods that should be released shortly, so I will try to keep this more up to date for anyone who is still into rFactor.

Now that rFactor v1150 is out, the new mods seem to be arriving daily. Some good ones of note that I have tried so far:
CTDP F1-2005 for rFactor

You waited long, but finally CTDP brings you the real Formula One-experience to your rFactor. Now you can get the complete season 2005 with all cars, all polished, cleaned and prepared for your race. And that won't be a light one, but instead you get physics, which will demand all your cunning to succeed. Who said Formula One was easy, has never tried ... the real thing.

*** Contains option for MoTeC Telemetry, which to this point has not been a feature for any rFactor mod ***

Zonda v1.0

Juan and I (Ingy) loved SCC's Zonda to the core - we had the best races of our lives in it, and we really wanted this car to live on in rFactor. First we just wanted a simple conversion to have fun with, but as time passed we noticed it deserved a lot more. We are both admire Horazio Pagani and Leonardo da Vinci. The Zonda mod is our tribute to them.'

"For anyone who enjoys GT cars, the Zonda is a dream - fast, powerful, precise - yeah I love it, the Zonda rocks!"

man, I just sold my wheel and pedals a few months ago b/c there didnt seem to be much interest in this game with those I enjoyed playing with online. The Kart mod looks so cool. I guess if I can find some people to race with online in open wheel cars (and some tin tops) I will try to pickup another wheel.

LOL, already downloaded the update and have done a couple races in my favorite mod, the Formula Nippon cars. Of course, now I have to download all of the new mods and add them to the mix!

I actually sold one of my wheels, so I'm back down to only one. I loved the Crossfire F3 league we were running, but Saturday night is a terrible night for me to consistantly be online; weeknights are much easier to manage for me (which is why the Tuesday GRAW night and Thursday Chromehounds night will see more participation from me). I'm certainly up for some weeknight racing now and then, in fact my buddy Glenn who also ran the Crossfire league just picked up a wheel himself (he was borrowing one of mine). He snagged a refurbished Logitech Momo off of Ebay for around $50 shipped, there seemed to be a lot of them out there, so if you're looking to get a decent wheel for a decent price that may be worth looking at.

Of course I fully expect to become one with my 360 once GTR comes out for it. I think my wife has the divorce papers ready to go!

Grant, was that a momo red wheel? If not how do the 2 momo's compare and how can I tell the diference? Got any links? I bet the Nippon's are sweet!! We raced on Friday night in that league I thought? Anyhow, I would love to get back into it and if I could find others to run with (anytime week or weekend) I would for sure pick up another wheel/pedals. Are you using a momo or DFP?

i see the diference in wheels, nevermind LOL. Also a huge diference in price lol.

So how is the black momo? Is it good or should I try to get a driving force pro again? I like the looks of the momo, is the only diference in the momo and the DFP the 900 degree rotation and of course button layout.

I saw a league that will be running sunday nights in BMW's with fixed setups and they are also starting a kart series too....WHAAAAAAAAAWHAAAAAA
