I like what i saw, but I have no idea what i am doing and I suck really bad
Join the club. I have now played 4 games on 3 star with only a single goal. I was the same way with WE8 at first but after a while the goals started to come.
The key is to remain patient and play it like it is a real soccer game. Passing back, changing sides and slowly building up your attack.
On defense you have to control the defender cause the game will switch you to the nearest defender automatically. I turn down the frequency in the player settings but it still happens.
I read someone suggested starting on 2* if you're not sure. I'd recommend this. I'm not the best player, but I found 2* to be not challenging enough for me since I've played a lot of the WE series, but it's a good way to learn controls.
3* is tough, but I improved huge amounts from game 1 to game 5. it seems like it will have nice longevity.
A lot of people think 4 stars is easier to score on because the Computer plays less defensively. If you have too many 0-0 draws on 3 stars, don't be afraid to try it.

I'm reading the same things. If you can't score on 3 star try 5 or maybe 6 stars!! WTF?? that's the most outrageous thing i've ever heard.

Interesting. I will give her a shot.
Any tips on shooting? Thats My main hang up. I know I will get used to the power meter with time but what about directional control?

First off the people that say this are idoits. The reason it's easier to score at 5 or 6 isn't because of the AI but rather how the defensive line plays. You guys are going to get killed on 5 stars and the game won't be any fun. You won't be able to dribble, get good shots on goal etc. On three stars the backline plays deeper thus creating the sense that its harder. It's not. It's just that they are not the proficient at scoring and neither are you. That's why 3 star games are lower scoring. The CPU is not very aggresive and that's why the game "seems" harder. On 5 stars they are aggressive and that creates more open space which can lead to more scoring chances. The CPU however, is more adept at scoring and if you chase the chicken around the pitch they can and will score on you.
Play on 3 stars. Remember with WE there's a 10 game rule. You might score a goal in your first ten games and you might not win any one of your first 10 games. But when you do its worth it.

You can import your WE8 option file. It's an option listed under WE Data I believe (don't quote me on that though... but it's there somewhere)
I did this and it changed the team names as well as the league names. Team that were promoted from last season were not updated as can be expected.
There are some other options when you import your WE8 option file.
Take a look.
Wow. Now, in WE8 what I did with Option Files was to individually make the changes, bringing over new information individually, team by team, player by player. This made me make sure I wasn't adding newly created players, etc. I hope you can do this from WE8 to WE9, that would be KILLER! That way, you can just change the player name without changing the attributes, and so on.
I own the PS2 import version and I decided to rent the Xbox this time to see if they were any differences. Commentary and voice wise I still prefer the import version as the Goooooaaallll!!! excitement is nowhere to be matched unless they hire in NA the voice of Max Bretos (as I was commenting on another thread).
For those of you that think the ball is ALIVE, well you may feel that way because you have been playing Fifa for too long (except the PSP version) where the ball physics is just cruel and it feels like it's glued to your shins as the player dribbles the ball.
Gameplay is quicker in WE9 and the ball physics is just well... REAL for a footie game. Graphics wise, not much difference to the PS2 but if any of you soccer fans can confirm the option file of WE8 can be imported here, then I might just buy my copy instead.
One more thing: Played an online game, and there was some lag although it didn't ruin my overall experience, but it was there. Having said this, if you own already WE 8I it's not too much of an advancement, but if you don't ,and want to play online, go for it.

I forgot to add that it did not change the kits. The updated kits from WE8 option files did not transfer over. There were also some options pertaining importing players, but I do not remember what they are at this time.
You know what's really funny about the WE series? If Madden had just been released, there would be 5-10 pages already of impressions....good or bad. Now, a day after WE's release, we've got two pages of talk, not real impressions. Sometimes things just don't need to be said and WE is one of those things. We know it's badass and you don't need to talk about it to understand it...you just need to play it. That is why I think the WE is the pinnacle of sports gaming and it will continue to be that way until some of the other guys catch up in terms of recreating the sport they are trying to.
After playing PES5 for a few more hours, I'm starting to see a few differences between it and PES4 and I'm starting to really like it and not think it was a waste of money. Remember, I was saying that a few days ago. I'm starting to come around.
There are lots of differences......they just aren't glaring differences, but they become apparant after weeks of playing.

I popped this one in after playing a game of AFL. I was about to start a Serie A game when Zep shot me an invite. I accepted and we played an EPL game online.
The game started and I felt as if I had no control over my players and Zep quickly netted a goal. The whole first half of the game was horrible to me. If anyone has played any of the Virtua Striker games that was what it felt like. Very limited control of my player with a noticeable lag from the time I pressed a button or moved the analog stick to the time it registered on screen. Zep wasn't saying anything so I thought this was how the game was now. I had played the demo on OXM last month and I couldn't believe how different (and worse) it was.
We get to half and I somehow managed to keep the score 1-0. The second half starts and I now have full control over my player movement and the lag was gone. I was thinking "Now this is Winning Eleven, what the f*** was going on in the first half?" Then Zep started having lag issues on his end and on my side things were perfect. I threatened several times but couldn't get one past the keeper. Zep's lag lasted the entire second half. It was pretty weird stuff.
I initially thought the game was pure crap because I didn't know what was going on but as soon as it played normally I was very impressed. I played another game offline on 3*'s and lost 2-1. Actually blew it in injury time. It finally seems as if fouls are called more consistently against the cpu and that's been my biggest gripe with the series for the past couple of years. I can't wait to get some more offline and online games in. Color me very impressed. I don't know what the hell I was smoking when I was on the fence about getting this one.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

That was one of the most bizarre posts I've seen in a while. 25 lines of how crappy it was controlling players and the lag online and then two lines of praise, and it's a great game. LOL...I get your point, but it was just funny how it all unfolded.
I'm diggin it. I've only played two games online 1-0 win against England with Romania, and a 0-0 draw with Inter against Juventus playing against some dumbass kid who kept telling me to 'hurry up, b*tch' everytime I paused it. Too bad I didn't have voice on, or I would have had some choice words for his ass.
Much harder to get things going in this game than WE8, but aside from not being able to net the goal that would have shut that little b*tch up, I'm enjoying it so far. I might even pick up the PS2 version to play online with it.

Well ive read that 1 half you host and 2nd half the opponent hosts weird but sounds like that was happening but when i played Zep i didnt notice any lag i thought it played realy well, we played 4 games.
My worries about game speed are over the demo was faster and probly just pes 5 but the pace of WE 9 is very good ,how it should be.
I hate Controller s all of a sudden.
I spent the whole time other than that getting my premier kits closer to what they should be.
Loving it so far except for controlled shot is impossible to pull off x then black button ? cant be done with the same hand sorry Konami. Guess ill just have to blast it past the keeper.

Well, you have the PS-Xbox controller adapter on the way, no? I am considering trying to get my hands on one too, even after a full year with WE Xbox. Or maybe there's a new update that
I am now scoring on 3 star but everytime I do I get scored right back on...
WE7 and 8 had catchup AI....my biggest gripe about the series.
I love when people claim this. You do realize that the AI changes it strategy while trailing late in games. If you don't counter by being less agressive and protecting your goal then they have a higher chance of scoring since they are bring their backers and midfielders further forward to be more agressive. If you counter that, all is fine. It's a tactical error, no catchup AI. Good grief.

Well yes and no. If you go by that criteria then even Football Manager has catch-up AI.
The CPU will get on you as you get ahead. This is not catch up ai but good ai. Now the catch-up AI in earlier series was more than just the CPU playing aggressive offense. Often times late in the game or after you scored a goal, the CPU would become perfect. Think Madden and an ill-timed fumble or the CPU catching everything. In WE, crosses will hit their man perfectly. Or somehow they break on the ball perfectly. Let's be honest WE8 had minimal catch-up AI. I remember WE6 where if the CPU had a corner kick late in the game, there was a 75% of it going in.

I do sssssshhhhhhhhh.
As for catch up ai they say it doesnt and i used to feel it did but its all mathematics and nothing is certain says seabass, the ai may execute the strategies to perfection maybe . After reading words from the creators i appreciate the game much more and dont believe it is catch up logic.
