Mmmmmm...Yuengling Lager and Black and Tan....mmmmmm. I had it on my first trip to Harrisburg 11 years ago and I've been in love ever since. I think it's pretty big in Florida too now. I always drink it when I visit Orlando.

I also like Rolling Rock, Guinness, Heineken and the occassional Corona.

Yeah, Dick Yuengling bought the old brewery in Tampa (near Busch Gardens) a few years back so Yeungling is brewed down there now. I was in the Fort Lauderdale Alehouse drinking it last year bragging about how I live 10 minutes from the brewery in PA. I was like a god...to some people...of course they were drunk...and so was I.

I rotate all the time depending on the direction of the wind; current favorites:

1. Stella Artois
2. Harp (on tap at The Tap)
3. Pabst Blue Ribbon (when I have to go cheap American)

Diablo25 wrote:Great thread...my favorite is one most of you haven't heard of - Yuengling Lager. Its America's oldest brewery (1829, located here in eastern PA) and the brewery is like 10 minutes from where I sit :)

http://www.yuengling.com/

They did a spot about the brewery on the History Channel a few years back when they were documenting the history of American Beer. The producer of the show fell in love with Yuengling Black and Tan (also awesome). I have toured the brewery several times (once for college credit :)) I even got a chance to see the caves under the brewery where the beer was stored pre refridgeration. I have met Dick Yuengling a few times myself. Might sound like nothing to you guys but he is a celeb around here :)

As for my other favorites: Moosehead and Molsen.

EDIT: I see FSquid has it on his list...atta baby!
I could drink no other beer except Yuengling for the rest of my life and be happy. Problem is, I'm only able to get ahold of it once or twice a year when I'm back in PA. Being able to bring a few cases back to Iowa with me has actually been a consideration at times when choosing to drive there instead of flying. I was in Tampa last year and was shocked to see it in a Publix there. It made the vacation even more enjoyable.

Since I can't get Yuengling locally, Newcastle is my favorite readily available "good" beer. Of course, I have to mention Old Style Light, as I drink more of that than anything else. It's my beer of choice when it comes to mass consumption, especially when I'm tailgating or camping.

living down in tampa (bradenton), i see Yuengling everywhere. every super market has it and its on tap at almost every watering hole i visit. not sure how far away from tampa this happens, but at least there is another section of the country that people can visit to get this beer.

i just drink bud light. everyone i know drinks it, i need to get out of that rut though.

Newcastle

My sister that lives in Burbank, thats her favorite beer. My brother in laws is Moosehead.

I have always been a beer drinker, so here go my top five...

BTW Squid it's Sapporo not Sapparo heh (I'm assuming you were talking the Japanese rice beer).

If we are talking regional I have one list, if local then another, I also have lager lists and stouts/draughts etc..

But again my all time top five are......

In no particular order...... just top five...

Guinness Draught (not a Stout guy) a pint in a glass is as good as life gets, nice dark brew (love the head on that beer), goes well with a Rueben sandwich or Steak & Patatoes.

Steinlager The fine New Zealand brew, this is probably my favorite, and I buy 12's of it every time I'm in Hawaii because I can get it way cheaper than here in Cali (dunno why, but it's true). Goes great with a teriyaki burger or anything made with a teriyaki twist or pineapples as well.

Dos Equis Better seen as XX, up until its latest massive american ad campaign it was not known on a corona level, a truely great mexican lager. Goes great with a nice plate of Carne Asada (dont drink this lager with pollo) stick with Asada, get some black beans on the side (frijole negros) & pico de gallo (cilantro, onions, & tomatoes).

Asahi My favorite Japanese beer, every time me and the wife go out to Sushi (BTW DB I got a great place hidden in a spot you'd never expect here in the valley near where I live) I order this, it goes well with Hawaiian Poke' or any type of Ahi sushi as well. My wife will drink this with some bacon scallop rolls (yea boys, I said bacon hehe).

Modelo Negro I really could put any of about 12 beers here, but I thought I'd go with something California regional like. It is a great dark brew, yet tastes light. I drink this with something like Pollo asado (skinless non fried chicken off of a grill) with something like Habanero sauce on the side, and some good mexican style rice. Or try some Cornish hens split on a grill with it.

Sorry to add the "Chefs review" type list, but I love talking Beer, and telling others what I find tasty with said brews.

If any of you find any of this interesting, and want to talk "Brew & Food" combos, lemme' know, in this one area I surely can contribute.

:D

Boltman,
Great recommendation on the Dos Equis. I recommend Dos Equis Amber. It's very smooth. Maybe more so than the one in the green bottle. I don't remember what that one is. I always put a lime in the Dos Equis, it's my current beer of choice.

Yuengling is hard to find out here in the west. I've heard good things about it.

Nice JRod!

Always glad to see someone enjoying something that I as well enjoy.

Great current brew of choice to have bro. Try it one weekend with your lime as you like, with some Carne Asada with some lime/Habanero Salsa!!

You will love it. :D

I tried Sam Adams 2 weeks ago and liked it. It has a very distict
flavor to it which is different than most lagers. Took a little getting used to, but I liked it after a while.

I found a new lighter beer I like a lot, Stevens Point White Biere:

http://www.pointbeer.com/white_biere.php

It has that light Belgian feel, with a bit of orange thrown in. Good if you want to drink something lighter that still has some taste.

I've also been drinking Boulevard Wheat, which is similarly refreshing, especially with a bit of lemon in it.

Today for the game, I'm going with the old standby, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Watery and mild ? I'd get Trading Standards onto that bar, coz it sounds like they are watering it down.

Proper Stella is 5.4% of dynamite, known collaquially over here as 'wifebeater'.

As for my own preferences

Lagers

Budvar (proper czech one, not that revolting gnats piss)
Franziskaner Weissbier (mmm, Fat Monk)
Paulaner Pils
Staropramen

Ales

Badger Golden Champion
Adnams
Boddingtons (must be kept properly, mind)
