As a Cubs fan, I have also been surprised by both Houston and St. Louis being so stagnant this off-season. It almost gives me hope for my team, but then I have to stop and say, "wait a minute, I'm a Cubs fan!" and then things come crashing back to reality.

It must especially suck to be a Cards fan and see a new stadium with countlesss streams of new revenue coming in, only to have management cutting back the payroll.

Following a team that does every last think to milk the f*ck out of every fan they can, I'm familiar with that scenario.

Fans are upset mainly because three years ago or so, ownership was telling the fans that a new stadium will bring in additional revenue to help beef up the ball club. Within the past few weeks, they've said the complete opposite. I do think they're getting the message loud and clear from the media and the radio shows.

What's even sadder is that of all the teams, the Royals are really going full throttle and pursuing several free agents. Good for them.

And now Bruce Levine of espn 1000 in chicago is reporting a package of Brandon McCarthy, Juan Uribe and minor leaguers for Miguel Tejada.

If the Sox pull this off Cubs GM Jim Hendry should be fired immediately

...as should the Oriole's GM unless those minor leaguers are some of the hottest prospects around.

Here, here. Kenny Williams is completely unbelievable if he can pull this off.

Now let's see if a championship and one of the best off-seasons a team could possibly have will bring the sorry-ass fans out.

Garciaparra to decide whether he'll go to the Yankees, Astros or Indians. Whichever team he ends up with, he may have to play as an outfielder.

The Twins signed Tony Batista.

Is it bad when the only positive I can come up with is that the contract isn't guaranteed?

Cards signed Braden Looper to a 3 year 13 mil contract. Crazy money, but I like Looper. Should be a nice set-up man as long as he stays healthy.

Looper is the perfect replacement for Julian Tavarez as a shaky right handed setup man :)

Paul Bako to the Royals. He is the one missing piece KC needed :)

They also signed Grudzielanek, Mientkiewicz and Scott Elarton. I pity the fool who has to sew the names on the back of their jerseys.

He's better than Tavarez in my opinion. We'll see.

I saw where Garland is on the trading block. That would be a nice pick up for the Cards if they can pull it off.

Gonna miss Grudz.

Looper is absolutely hopeless against left handed hitters. Because of this, he's much better suited to a set up role than a closer. Presumably Tony and Duncan know this too and they can use him accordingly. But Looper makes it more critical to find a reliable LHP replacement for Ray King.

With the new addition of Ron Villone, the Yankees have a bullpen to be envy of. It includes the left-handers Villone and Mike Myers and the right-handers Aaron Small, Tanyon Sturtze, Kyle Farnsworth and of course Mariano Rivera.

Can anyone explain the Rangers-Padres trade from earlier this week to me? It confuses me how getting Adam Eaton for Chris Young is much of an updgrade for the Rangers.

Wasn't Otsuka in that deal as well? He's good.

poor signing. George couldn't help himself. He will be done in the field, in 2 years.

wanted Beltran (last year). Don't care what his numbers were, this past season.

funny. Dotel was a more important signing, than Damon.

It was worth 52 million of George's money just to piss off Parker!

Yep, he was included. Makes more sense with him in the trade, but I thought the Rangers also gave up a decent prospect.

Wasn't Adrain Gonzalez in this deal also?
