This was the Elgin store on Randall Road. I'm going there at midnight, but I just think the are effin idiots and they do not have them.ScoopBrady wrote:Which Meijer stores Danimal?
I had 3 Best Buys tell me tody that the next time you see them in our Sunday Flyer is when we will have them, which makes the memo posted earlier seem real.
We just need BD to start posting those Sunday Curculars early again.

Last night while in gamestop there was a MS representative there.I asked him about the 360's and he basically said to stay patient. He claimed ms was doing everything to get the systems on the shelves but the demand is too high,I then asked why so long for the next shipments and he pretty much said that ms was holding back till they can get a good amount on shelves and because of the japenese launch coming soon. There isn't enough 360's to go around yet and they are making them as fast as they can.He did say some production was halted to figure oyt the problems with some of the initial systems.
I then asked him how long before someone can get one pretty easily without calling every store every day to see if they had them. His answer was probably Late January and definitely by March.

Danimal, I feel your plight but I can't help but laugh a bit at how someone who is cursing MS for deliberately short shipping to increase demand is driving around at midnight in the snow to try and find one.
I do hope you're successful.
I think it actually makes sense for the stores to hold off until they have a couple weeks' worth of reshipments (which will probably still be meager). I believe MS when they say they are pumping them out as fast as possible. I'm sure they wanted to have sell out buzz for the launch, but probably didn't want to have a deliberate pre-Christmas shortage. That would make no sense.

Umm I don't think I said the shortage is fake or deliberate (did I?)Brando70 wrote:Danimal, I feel your plight but I can't help but laugh a bit at how someone who is cursing MS for deliberately short shipping to increase demand is driving around at midnight in the snow to try and find one.
I was just saying that the PR and stories of second shipments on shelves this weekend was bullshit. Look at various forums, call some stores and you will see I was right.
I'll bet you won't see any on shelves this whole week either.

My wife also heard similar stuff for 10 days as well as her busting her butt to get one for me. She was very happy to say the least that I got mine.dbdynsty25 wrote:That's funny...I heard the same crap from my girl for the four days I didn't have a 360.Danimal wrote:The worst part of this is my wife making fun of me cause i am 39 and acting like I am 12, pouting every night etc.
To make matters worse, I've read on other forums that some stores are getting a few and they are not making it to the floor. Some Target got 4 in the other day and an employee called his friend and told him to come get one. When he got to the store, he was lied to by the electronics department as well as the store manager. He was told they had not gotten any in since launch day and would not be getting any in soon. It turns out that "certain people" were called and basically the 4 systems were held for them.Danimal wrote:Umm I don't think I said the shortage is fake or deliberate (did I?)Brando70 wrote:Danimal, I feel your plight but I can't help but laugh a bit at how someone who is cursing MS for deliberately short shipping to increase demand is driving around at midnight in the snow to try and find one.

I've seen this before. Some big ebay guy knows someone in electronics and tells the guy he will slip him a $20 for every 360 he gets. What 18 year old kid could pass this up?
This whole fiasco is worse than the Cabbage Patch Doll or the Tickle Me Elmo craze as now the gamer is just not competing with other gamers for the system, he's competing with money grubbers as well.

Does anyone else besides me think we'll see some sort of manufacturing defect in this early run of Xbox 360s due to the rush to get more to market?
When I hear an MS rep say, "We're rushing to get more to market as quickly as we can," all I can think of is, "Gentlemen, start your recalls."
Let's hope that's not the case, but I have doubt.
Take care,
PK

Sony will have shortages at launch, too, whether artificial or real. So the PS3 is bound to have manufacturing defects just like the first run of PS2s and their dodgy disc drives and trays.tjung0831 wrote:I think thats why all of us are waiting for the PS3's.pk500 wrote:Does anyone else besides me think we'll see some sort of manufacturing defect in this early run of Xbox 360s due to the rush to get more to market?

I think very few of us are waiting for the PS3. Based on the recent poll here, I would say the excitement for the PS3 is pretty muted around these parts. That probably will change somewhat due to launch buzz, but most of us are online gamers, and MS has a far superior online model than Sony.
I can only speak for myself, but I have zero interest in the PS3. Conversely, it's a matter of when, not if, I buy an Xbox 360.

I figured the first talk of the in-cockpit views of PGR3 might push you over the edge PK...I know you have valid financial and practical reasons for holding out, but we look forward to having you on board.
As I recall, a solid cockpit view was on your list of things that absolutely should be in a solid racing game...
As for the PS3, I'll pre-order soon just in case, but I suspect the 360 will be my console of choice in this generation just as the XBox was in the last, all because of ONLINE and XBL.

It is, for sure. But it's not enough to make me want to drop $500 on a video game system, especially one that has one or two other games to interest me at launch (NHL 2K6, Call of Duty). One game never has sold a system for me.Sport73 wrote:I figured the first talk of the in-cockpit views of PGR3 might push you over the edge PK...I know you have valid financial and practical reasons for holding out, but we look forward to having you on board.

Plus hopefully game prices will have dropped to reasonable levels at retail and on eBay later next year. I really can't stomach paying $60 for a new video game that's a new-and-improved version of a game that was released for the Xbox only a few months prior. I know Madden, NBA and NHL are much improved, but they're still spit-and-polished versions of games that were released in the last two months with the same rosters, etc. I really want to see what the second generation of titles for this system brings, as I expect it to be killer.
I look forward to the day when I'm playing on the 360 with you cats. I'm targeting late summer 2006, after I've compiled a good chunk of racing memorabilia and other stuff I can sell to fund the purchase.
Take care,
PK

i sort of fell into that trap pk speaks of with madden selling me and now im regretting that......
actually i have been considering a ps3 with baseball particulary mlb series in mind as well as smackdown series, and winning eleven...but either way i have time to see what they have to offer when the time comes
problem is im not all that enthusiastic about 360s lineup at the moment with no WE on the horizon only ncaa baseball and 2ks version (ugh) football is the same across the board...
seriously leaning towards throwing my 360 up on ebay especially seeing what premiums are going for every minute of the day

FYI, I think NCAA baseball is only for PS2 and Xbox. Since EA is uncertain how well it will sell, they did not want to commit to next gen.
Speaking of which, I thought that Microsoft was going to concentrate on the top xbox sellers to make compatible with the 360. If i am not mistaken, NCAA and Madden were top sellers, but neither of these games - or much of any Xbox sports games - are compatible yet. You would think that MVP - with 720P out of the box, would be an easy one to make compatible.
Another FYI - according to "Major Nelson" there is a Madden Demo now available on Marketplace for 360. I guess it is a big download, so expect it to take a while.

The issue is not about the resolution...it's the fact that the underlying components of the 360 are vastly different from that of the original Xbox. You have a single intel celeron based processor with a nvidia graphics card on the Xbox and now you've got a ibm based processor with three cores and an ati graphics board. It's so different it's not even funny. That's why you need to essentially download emulator software when you play games with backwards compatibility.kevinpars wrote:Speaking of which, I thought that Microsoft was going to concentrate on the top xbox sellers to make compatible with the 360. Think about it: Why would MS or EA want the Xbox version of Madden or NBA Live to be compatible when 360 versions are launch or near-launch titles? Those two companies are in the business of making money, and offering backward compatibility for a recent Xbox title that has a companion Xbox 360 release decreases profits.kevinpars wrote:Speaking of which, I thought that Microsoft was going to concentrate on the top xbox sellers to make compatible with the 360. In other words, MS and EA want to force gamers into buying the new games instead of having the option of backward compatibility. It's why you don't see PGR 2 as a backward compatible title, either. MS wants you to buy PGR 3.
