Leebo33 wrote:Brando, the real question is "can you guarantee me a Bears victory this weekend vs. SF?" I am *this* close to putting them in as my pick in an elimination pool and $250 may be on the line.
Leebo, the words "guarantee" and "Bears victory" do not belong in the same sentence. It is like playing Russian roulette with a two-shot derringer. However, that sounds like an ideal game to bet the under. :D

As for the TO situation, he's a giant c*ck who got what he deserved. I'm am not one of those typical outraged middle class white guys. I'm fine with athletes being arrogant and self-centered, even unfriendly. I'd prefer they weren't, but I won't crucify them for it. I only ask that they do two things:

1) Play as hard as they can.
2) Respect their teammates and put the team ahead of themselves.

TO has always done #1, and that's why his antics have never really bothered me that much. But he stepped WAY over the line on #2, and anyone defending him is simply enabling the type of behavior that undermines our enjoyment of sports.

Like Leebo said, I am all for athletes attempting to get what they can. It is a free market, after all. The offseason stuff with him, while annoying, was not terrible. Had he even said he wouldn't play, that would have been his right. But once he agreed to put the pads on, he needed to STFU about his contract. He did not get a "bad" deal, just a somewhat average contract for a player of his caliber. The money he's getting does not remotely justify his behavior.

Yeah, TO and Hugh Douglas are really tight.

Is Hugh Douglas on the active roster?

Anyways, if as reported he was questioning Owens about whether he was really injured and unable to play against Washington, that was unjustified after how he performed in the SuperBowl and throughout this season.

T.O's a fool, he'll probably sign for less money somewhere else because of the baggage he brings.

I think its wrong too to ask for more money after you agreed to a contract. The dollars they're throwing around is ridiculous, I mean just look, he's being insulted by the 48 million dollar contract, oh come on.

I don't feel bad for the Eagles, because its there fault. They knew going into this deal what a head case he was, but in their arrogance they thought they could control him or control his outburst. That's the furtherest thing from the truth. They made a deal with the devil and now they're paying for it.

Too bad because McNabb seems like a really quality guy, he did not go down to TO's level of name calling or bickering, he kept it between the two.

If he is released this year, Green Bay would have first shot then Houston. If he's released in the off-season, he could good anywhere though it's likely to follow what happened with Keyshawn Johnson a few years ago with Tampa and the Eagles trade Owens for pennies on the dollar just to get something back.

Nigga please. This isn't about last year. Who the hell cares about that game now. Why the f*** didn't he do the dance he did today on Friday? He would still be an Eagle. TO= NDWC.
Hugh Douglas is still part of the Eagles organization. IF the team allows him in the training facility, he has every right to be there.
Douglas came into the room and said the thing about players faking injuries, joking around about it. He wasn't even looking at Owens or even said whom he was talking about. Owens couldn't take the joke and thought it was directed towards him and confronted Douglas about it.

Why isn't it about last year?

The way a lot of contracts work in the NFL, he was never going to get anywhere near that $48 million. The team is throwing that figure out like they were going to pay him that much, to gain sympathy for its position.

That figure is no more real than Pamela Anderson's cup size.

If you factor in salary and bonuses, Terrell Owens was the second-highest-paid receiver in the NFL last season. Only Marvin Harrison made more.

So boo-f*cking-hoo to TO.

Who said he wasn't well paid? But throwing around a 7-year sum is irrelevant since he's off the team. And some of those bonuses were incentive-based, I gather? He might actually have earned them?

Anyways, Moss got a huge contract with a big chunk of money upfront. He probably had more money in the bank after the first year of his contract.

You simply don't get it. You really don't.

No one here is debating that Terrell Owens is a great wide receiver, one of the top three wideouts in the game today.

But everyone except for you and Seanmac agrees that Owens should have realized that the Eagles could have rejected his desires for a renegotiated deal, and it was entirely within the club's right to do so.

And if Owens is going to deal with that rejection by holding out of camp, whining, criticizing the organization and its management and players endlessly, then the Eagles have the right to send him packing without pay.

That is the issue: Owens' total lack of professionalism and class. No one is questioning his ability as a player.

See if that Pascal or Fortran jives with your motherboard.

See some of those arguments might have some resonance. But you must not really believe in their merit since you had to turn to some imagined slight to cap it off.

In other words, you'd rather start a flame war than really argue your position.

Thanks for admitting your points have no more substance than the circus acts db and bd. :P

Most people see no difference between the two posts. You do. So here's the sanitized, touchy-feely version, reposted so you can understand:

I don't think the issue is renegotiating. There's nothing wrong with a player renegotiating a contract. Given the way the NFL uses players and the physically dangerous nature of the game, it's justifiable for players to try and maximize their earning potential.

While I don't like holdouts, at least if a player holds out at the beginning of camp, a team can make adjustments to their roster more easily than during the season. If that player is a vet like Owens and they keep themselves in shape, the holdout likely won't really lessen their playing ability. A minor distraction, yes, but nothing serious.

What happened this week is a major distraction during the middle of the season, at a time when the Eagles are at a crossroads and desperately need to win their next two games. The distraction was caused by one player saying his ego wasn't satisfied when he reached a milestone that, while impressive, means jack squat to the team's attempt to win. That's what's wrong.
