Don,

I need to throw out my standard "56K, can't download all that much, have to be selective" complaint at this point, so forgive me for not just downloading the track myself and trying it out...

I know all about Clermont Ferrand but since I've not seen any footage or that many stills from there I'm not that sure of what sort of driving experience I can expect. Make me want it...

Cheers,
Adam

Sorry Adam, I completely forgot about you needing a bunch of the F1 1999-2002 and Grand Prix Legend mods and add-ons. I will get you some more screenshots, but I will also download whatever you need. Do you have a DVD rom on your PC? If so I will fill up 4.7gb for you. Just let me know what all you would like.

Ahh you probably thought this thread was dead, but I am hoping to help sf_z pad his post count. ;)

Anyway, the Multiplayer Test Demo for rFactor has been released. This is the newest game from ISI, makers of the EA F1 series of PC games.
Finally...after much anticipation, the rFactor Multi-Player Test Demo will be available for download in less than 24hrs! The purpose of this release is to stress test the MultiPlayer component of rFactor and obtain & incorporate community feedback into the best online racing experience possible

The Multiplayer Test Demo offers the agile rear-wheel drive ZR model in 3 flavors: fast (ZRa), faster(ZRm) and fastest(ZRz). The demo will allow for Multiplayer mixed-class racing on the Toban Raceway Park circuit.

Partial features list included on the Demo are:

▪ Fully functional AI
▪ Dedicated Multiplayer Server
▪ Limited Dynamic Time-of-Day transitions
▪ Choice of Standing or Rolling starts, formation laps
▪ Race by time or laps
▪ Local and/or full course yellow flags
▪ Functional Garage
I will probably try to get a test server up and running this weekend if any of the DSP PC racers are game to try it.

Check it out here:

This one really snuck up on me... I had no idea it was coming! Thanks for the news and the link Don. I'll download it Sunday night and have a go at it. One thing that concerns me is ISI's past record with multiplayer. F1 2002 and F1 99-02 were some of the worst multiplayer games I've played, but they were fine offline.

sf_z wrote:rFactor demo is very impressive. The physics are polished although I'm slow as usual. There looks to be the usual ton of setup options.

The netcode is pretty solid allowing for decent size fields although I've gotten hung up in the pits a couple of times and crashed back to the desktop once.

Did ISI split from EA?
Yes, since EA did not renew their FIA F1 license and/or lost it to Sony, ISI left to work on rFactor. It is expected to be a base for mods, or that is how it is being pitched anyway. No licensed cars or tracks, similar to Live for Speed.

I also am very impressed with the demo so far, although it is struggling on my P4 1.8 with Radeon 9500. I am having to run at 800x600, but it does not look that bad. The sense of speed, even with low frame rates, is pretty good. I do get bad stuttering when there are a bunch of cars on screen at the same time, but otherwise pretty smooth.

www.findthelimit.com already has a hotlap ranking for the demo. You just need to download a datalogger to run before you launch the demo. Find it in the forums there.

I know I have not been keeping this thread up to date, and I also know that there is probably little interest in it in the first place, however, something was released today that warrants a post. The Isle of Man Mountain Course for Nascar Racing 2003. This is a perfect example of what is so great about the sim racing community. Read on:
Isle of Man, Snaefell Mountain Course - released for N2003 (Copyright Jim Pearson July 2003)

I am pleased to announce that my GPL Isle of Man Mountain Course [IOM MC] has been successfully and beautifully converted to N2003 by Nagy Zoltan and that Stuart Cowie [Madcowie] has recently spent considerable time helping Nagy ensure all the in game features of this complex, 5300 object track run faultlessly. Stuart has also generously volunteered to host the download on his new site supplied by Worrl .

In my opinion they are both to be congratulated, for the accuracy of this difficult conversion is superb, recreating the driving qualities and ambience I laboured hard for a year to build into the original GPL track.

Due to GPL track length restrictions, this is a 15.4 mile representation of the real 37.7 mile Isle of Man Snaefell Mountain Course, on which the Manx TT and Manx GP have been run continuously since 1911. It contains most of the corners and major features of the real Mountain Course. Details of the real track, a comprehensive driving guide and the track's construction for GPL may be found at my site. [ see link below ]

The bike rider you see in the in game loading screens, Ken Murray, raced at the Isle of Man for 8 years and was my close consultant when building the track. A page on my site has his Bio, action photos of him on the IOM MC and his racing record.

MUST READ - PLEASE - DRAW DISTANCE

This track is very different to most N2003 tracks because of the way I constucted the GPL original.
In N2003 you ONLY NEED A DRAW DISTANCE SETTING OF 7% - 15% TO SEE ALL THE TEXTURES AND SCENERY TO MAXIMUM EFFECT. ANY GREATER DRAW DISTANCE SETTING WILL NOT IMPROVE THE SCENERY/REDUCE POP UPS, BUT WILL REDUCE YOUR FRAME RATES, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE ASKING YOUR CPU/GPU TO DRAW A LOT OF TRACK/CARS YOU CANT POSSIBLY SEE. SO UNLESS YOU HAVE A 'KILLER' 3+ Gig CPU/ 256MB GPU SYSTEM, TAKE THE TROUBLE TO REDUCE DRAW DISTANCE TO THE ABOVE SETTINGS FOR THIS TRACK. IF YOU DO, THE TRACK SHOULD RUN WELL ON MOST SYSTEMS IN EITHER OPEN GL OR D3D.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

BTW There are over 100 right handers per lap here. Can you handle it in your Ferrari P4 330 or Trans AM?

Tip... If there is any track that rewards watching how the AI do it, BEFORE venturing out yourself, this surely is the one.

Get the track here.... http://www.mcr.worrl.com/ but dont forget to come back and tell Nagy, Stuart and me what you think of this latest examination we have set, to test your driving skills on in N2003.

For a detailed section by section Isle of Man Driving/Racing Guide with maps and for track details, go here

http://www.jrpearson.homestead.com/index.html then follow the 'GPL Circuits' link.

Cheers and enjoy!

The 1.2 patch for the German version of GTR is out at 3dgamers. It features several new cars, bug fixes, and the full 2003 24 hours of SPA including appropriate dawn, dusk, day, night changes.

Go here, and try the Austrailian servers as most of the others are getting killed right now.

http://www.3dgamers.com/games/gtr/downloads/

Also, a demo of Ford Racing 2 has been released. I know nothing about it, and previous Ford Racing releases have been less than stellar, but here is the link anyway.

Interesting that there has recently been a thread about purchasing Nascar Racing 2003, as here is a perfect example of why you should keep this game around (or buy it if you don't have it.)

The GTP Mod for NR2003 has just been released by Redline Development - www.redlinedevelopments.com/gtp/gtphome.php

From www.bhmotorsports.com:
GTP is a modification of Nascar Racing 2003 by Papyrus. You must have Papyrus's Nascar 2003 installed with the 1.201 patch in order to install Redline GTP.

Features:

- 4 cars which are the Sauber c9, Jaguar XJR-9, Toyota 88cv and Mazda 787b. Each car has it's own physics
- Each car has its own cockpit, parts and sets of gauges all modeled and placed separate so each looks similar to its real life match.
- Full carset of the real drivers liveries and names from each of these famous cars
- Right hand side drive
- Separate 3d tyres and rims for each make of car that leaves the disc brakes visible thru the rims.
- The driver was also rebuilt so it’s to correct size and shape from original Papy shape.
- New drivers and pit crew textures as well.
- Windshield effects of dirt etc
- A simulated digital tach in mazda to match real life
- All new Spotter sounds.
- Realistic incar sounds for each car which are hardcoded to the car selected
- New ambient ingame sounds in menus etc.
- Working nightime headlights incockpit and outside in all views
- Night time compatible lights and special fx and lit cockpits
- New night time track method with changing sky conditions at each session change
- Ability to run almost any nr2003 track at night with a small patch we can provide.
- Ability to run any nr2003 track in day with a small patch we can provide or will provide info on user changes.
- the game interfaces ... i.e. menus are totally redone and contain some per car details
- full damage thru all Lod's containing falling debris removed quarterpanels and other parts
- AI performances to match the cars (ai support although it works is minimal and will be tweaked in future version)
- full support from the new VROC as the racelist service made famous from GPL!
- And much more...

Tracks Included in GTP

Spa
Spa 24 Hour
Silverstone
Silverstone24 Hour
Suzuka
Suzuka 24 Hour
Sebring
Sebring 24 Hour
Phillip Island
Phillip Island 24 Hour

Supported tracks(with correct ini)

Portland (no chicane)
Watkins Glen GTP
Kyalami PWF
Mosport PWF
Trois Rivieres PWF
Limerock 1.0
Riverside 1970
Le Mans 2004
Sears Point
Watkins Glen

Night racing, working headlights, changing sky conditions, Suzuka 24 Hours, AND the Jaguar XJR-9 ...... Damn I love the mod community. And to think this is all done for free.

Well, I never posted anything regarding the demise of the original GTP mod for NR2003 posted above, but after much debate on copyright infringement and reverse engineering of exe's, Team Redline has just released:
Redline GTP mod v.1.1 for (Nascar 2003)

This mod transforms Nascar Racing 2003 into a Group C simulation.
The Group C racing class is considered to one of the most exciting periods in racing history. While the cars were nearly as powerful as Formula One cars, their designs were much more exotic and the racing action was excellent. The Redline GTP mod transforms Nascar Racing 2003 into a full-blown Group C simulation. This is the new 1.1 version of the mod.
There are several things to consider at install, the most important noted below:
***NOTE IMPORTANT***

YOU MUST INSTALL A FRESH COPY OF NR2003 WITH THE
1.2.01 PATCH OR IT WILL OVERWRITE YOUR CURRENT INSTALL
AND CAUSE PROBLEMS.

**Note** You must have a valid and installed copy of Nascar 2003 by Papyrus to be able to run GTP.

**Note2**
make sure after installation you run config.exe then create a new player via the application by clicking on 'options' ...or you're game will crash

Well I was going to let this thread die, but there is a significant release today that I thought was worth mentioning.

Live for Speed S2 is an independently produced racing sim that does not have officially licensed cars, series, or tracks, but is a very good sim with great online code and a thriving community. The developers really pay attention to the feedback from the community and it shows in all the great new features available. They have released S2 in alpha form, but honestly it is better than most full PC releases I have tried lately.

Some of the new features in S2 include:
Further developed physics and multiplayer systems
2 new single seater racing cars (not for the faint hearted)
3 GTR racing cars of around 500 bhp (keep your hair on)
2 front wheel drive racing saloon cars
2 sports cars, one rear and one mid engine
1 1000cc front wheel drive road car (where's that corner)
Kyoto Ring, Japan - with an Oval configuration
Westhill, England - a high speed track
Aston, England - long and short configurations
8 S1 cars with graphical and physical developments
3 updated S1 tracks (Blackwood, Fern Bay, South City)
New objects added to the S1 Autocross arena
Yellow Flag and Blue Flag warning systems
Various types of suspension with realistic motion
Support for symmetric and asymmetric setups
Tyre wear, surface and and air temperatures
48 sampling spots per tyre allowing flat spots
Simulated and visible tyre deformation
Fuel usage, pit stops, speed limits and penalties
F12 Pit instructions system to change strategy
F11 Live settings : anti roll bar and brake balance
And more...
Go here for more LFS S2 press release info:

http://www.liveforspeed.net/?page=s2_announcement

The full version can be downloaded in demo form that can then be unlocked if you want to purchase. S2 costs 12.00 GBP = 21.8524 USD
United States Dollars. Not bad for all that.

With so few new options for open-wheel sim racing these days, this is worth it just for the 2 open-wheel class cars which are supposed to be equivalent to GP2/F3000 and F1 type physics.

Here are some additional details and descriptions of Live for Speed S1 and S2 cars and tracks:

Prototype-C Service Pack 4 released!!

Post by DChaps »

I have raised this thread from the dead once again.

First, because there is a little bit more racing sim interest around here lately, so hopefully this will not be too annoying to the non-racing sim fans.

Second, because one of the greatest mods of all time, for one of my favorite car types and racing series of all time has just had its final update released for F1 Challenge 1999-2002:

http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=226303
Prototype-C Service Pack 4 released !

Virtua_LM is proud to present the final opus of the Prototype-C Mod.

Service Pack 4 description

-around 1.5 GB free on your hard disk for the installation (including 1 GB for the game)
-creation of a new player must be via the launcher application
-a lot of spare time to drive all cars
This mod has been a work of love and is amazingly detailed and comprehensive covering many seasons, cars, tracks, and drivers of the era.

If you get the full mod installed with all the patches, you will also find the following tracks - Fuji, Jerez, and Rouen; Monza of 1993 and Nurburgring of 1991; three courses from GTR2002 - Brands Hatch, Donington, and Mugello, the Rolex24 and Phoenix road-ovals as well as reworked versions of Mid Ohio, Sebring, Laguna Seca, and NT Watkins Glen. It also features these historic courses : 1976-1987 Brands Hatch, 1974-1985 Fuji, 1970-1981 Hockenheim, 1958-1987 Laguna Seca, and 1987-1989 Le Mans, and Kyalami in its 1993 layout.

All the previous patches and service packs for this mod can be found here:

http://www.virtua-lm.com/

If you are unfamiliar with Prototype C racing it spawned the careers of many of the current greats in motorsport including Michael Schumacher.
A collection of the fastest, most extreme prototypes that ever raced. In the early 90s sports cars shared a similar set of technical regs to F1, it was the end of the Group C era, but it produced some stunning, exotic machines which were often just as fast at their F1 counterparts.

Wow, the 70's mod looks awesome, in fact it prompted me to finally get a copy of F1 99-02. I found one on Ebay for $30. If anyone is looking for a copy, the place I bought it from evidently has a ton of them, with a Buy It Now price of $30. Do a search for the Ebay store called Papa Media, then search for F1. Looks like shipping will take a few weeks, but they responded to a question quickly so all seems good so far. I'm actually thinking about snagging another copy, but I'll wait till the first shows up to make sure the whole transaction goes well.

Just wanted to chime in to say that the copy of F1C I bought off of Ebay arrived today safe and sound. I'm installing the '70's mod as I type! So anyone who was waiting to see if the seller was legit, I can confirm they are. And MUCH cheaper than some of the other sellers!

Wow, the 70's mod is very very good! It's a bit creepy taking your Tyrell through the esses at Watkins Glen, I must admit.

The sounds of the cars are great, and there are a lot of them. I am having a bit of a problem with the rear view mirrors being off center, but I'll check their forum to see how to fix that (it was working when I first tried it).

Only 8 tracks, but they are good ones, standouts being the full Nurburgring and Watkins Glen. You can also download updated track liveries that can be used for some of the track mods out there (and they are required if you want to run a championship).

Overall a fantastic mod, covering a sorely overlooked period in F1.

I'll have to snag the Prototype C mod next!
