Maybe you should take a closer look at the shark, did you Tivo it? The shark means more then just a shark.

As for filler, I can see why some are saying this. To me the whole Sawyer / Micahel thing was all about establishing the characters more and not filler.

I thought re-telling a lot of the premier through a different viewpoint was a risky move for TV, hell it is genius stuff when Tarantino does it in movies, but try it on a TV show and the average audience member with a 10 minute attention span gets bent (Not you Air, but you should see the Lost message boards)

I though the episode was very good.

I figured that the shark meant more, and I half expected a giant squid to be the attacker. I only have it copied onto a DVD and for some reason my dad put the recorder on ELP so it's not the finest quality. Maybe I'll download the episode off of a BitTorrent site and take a closer look.

Yeah, I didn't really mean filler in a negative sense. I was curious as to what was going on with everybody else - this show gives you that sense of caring for just about all of the characters because they have been so well developed up until this point. And I did think that it was very "Lost-y" of the show to do something of this sort, because like you said they had the potential to piss a lot of people off with this sort of thing - but I think that they pulled it off very well. Sawyer is one of my favourite characters on the show so I didn't mind at all. The other two people that I watched it with (my father, and my girlfriend) also thought that the show was excellent. The only reason why it left with an "aw, damn" feeling is because now I have to wait another damn week to watch more.

Apparently, Alias, another show produced by JJ Abrams, featured this kind of replay of the same event from another perspective thing. So it's not new for TV.

Was Sawyer trying to jump that shark? :D

I'm not sure it is worth downloading the whole episode the shar has the same logo on it as the crates etc.

Yup, already figured that out. But thanks for the suggestion (just checked out some message boards, with some real whacked out people).

I noticed that about the shark as well. This kind of fits in with the "scientific experiment" theory of the show - some evil doctor/corporation behind all the happenings on the island.

Wooo Hoooo, they replayed the episode I missed! I was able to catch both hours last night, although I did miss some details because I was also watching the kids at the time.

I didn't notice the logo on the shark, but like I said, I was distracted. I thoght things were moving along pretty quickly in the first episode, which figures thay'd slow it all down the next one. At first it didn't feel like much happened the during the second episode, but there were a lot of little things to catch that made it worth while.

So far it's the only show I've watched on network TV this season. I could not even make it through the first episode of the Apprentice, and there's no way in h$ll I'm watching that Martha Stewart show.

I was annoyed by last night's episode -- a rarity for me with Lost. I liked the retelling of the previous events from last week (as did the other two writers sitting in my living room). But the Crockett and Tubbs routine on the raft got old quickly.

Of course, they fished me right back in with The Others shot at the end -- creepy! And Evangeline Lily gave us a pretty nice shot down the tank top when she was crawling around the air duct 8O I did see in Entertainment Weekly that the October 5 show is supposed to reveal a lot of info.

The best part of this show is it is rare for there to be a continuity problem. For example if you go back and play episode 1 from this season, as Jack is walking down the hallway, if you listen carefully you can hear Kate's muffeled yelling that we saw in last nights episode.

I love the attention to detail, and the things you see if you pay close enough attention.

Well David Fury, a writer who recently left the show to join the staff of 24, said they're making it up as they go along, that there is no detailed master plan. Maybe he's disgruntled.

I've heard claims that they've sometimes gone back and refilmed scenes of episodes in the can but not yet aired when they came up with a new idea in a later episode, to maintain continuity.

Of course, Sopranos did something similar when they aired episodes with the FBI mole who eventually entraps Adrianna but they re-cast her with another actress.

I can't see the logo on the shark with the recording I have. Check these out though:

Image
Did these candy bars that Kate had ever exist, I can't find any info on them, I found Apollo candy but not an actual candy bar.

Image
Also the crate Kate used to climb into the vent, maybe someone who has it recorded it in digital or HD can make out what it says on it, maybe it's nothing but it just caught my eye when I first saw it and I kept replaying it in slow motion but can't make out what it says.

Image
And finally the stuffed animal Michael bought for Walt when he was younger looks to be a polar bear, and last season Walt was attacked by the polar bear on the island.

Also when Desmond asks Locke if he is "the one" then asks him "What did the snowman say to the other snowman?", well supposedly that is a kids joke with the answer being "Do you smell carrots?", so maybe Walt would know the answer and he is "the one" that Desmond is waiting for but the others now have him.

Just little things like these make the show very interesting and enjoyable for me to see every week.

In another forum, people have been referring to the logos in the bunker and in Desmond's jumpsuit as the "Dharma" logo. Same logo on the shark.

Maybe some evil corporation experimenting with some bio or chemical agent which is why Dharma injects himself and wants to know how many of the plane's survivors are sick.

Hmm, so it could be some Jurassic Park-type of venture gone wrong.

Can't wait for tonight's episode! I love the detail in the show. You must pay attention from the first minute every episode or you may be...well, LOST.

If that episode didn't do it for you, stop watching the show, please because you will never get Lost.

I'm not posting anything spoiler wise til later when people on the west coast have seen it.

I might watch it again right now.

Good ep for the most part, but Locke/Jack thing went on too long at the end. A minor quibble.

The show definitely gets curiouser and curiouser. I liked the Others using the X-K-Red-27 technique on Sawyer and company.

How about the bombshell at the end of the preview for next week?

That film and the whole premise of the station and the duty of the people who man it reminds me of the Milgram experiments. Also maybe telling they mentioned Skinner of Box fame in the film.

They've obviously resupplied the station in recent years. They could easily have put in a modern computer to automate the tedium of entering the code every 108 minutes. The fact that they didn't lends credence to Jack's belief that they're yanking people's chains.

Now they have Desmond run off into the jungle. He'll probably make little cameo appearances like Rousseau. Lost is like Gilligan's Island in that sense. They dangle these tantalizing little plots like it's going to end in some satisfactory resolution and then they yank it away again.

Oh and now they have another chick who like Kate can knock down men with a single punch. She's a little bigger than Kate and she played a girl boxer in a movie so this time, it's believable.

I wish they hadn't dropped that "bombshell" in the preview. I'm watching next week no matter what, no need to entice me by giving away something that would have completely blown my mind, if it had been unexpected and unrevealed in a preview.

Damn them! That would have been a scream out loud at the tv moment if that hadn't of ruined it.

Yeah, I honestly think that I'm going to stop watching the previews for the next episode; that was one of the best things of watching Season 1 on DVD - I never had any idea what was going to happen in the next episode.

$20 bucks says that the bombshell is a dream sequence or vision of sorts.

Love the show, and I watch it every week. I like the direction they have gone.

BUT!

I read an article back during the first season about how the show came to be. It was originally a drama about survivors of a plane crash. They featured the same flashbacks, tensions among the core group, but that show was rejected.

Then they came up with the idea of the island being "mysterious". The gimmick worked, and the show has turned out fantastic. But I still always know that in many ways, they are just making it up as they go along. Many of the "bombshells" have been cliched plot devices, like dreams and such. But I can live with that, and the show has seemed to have finally developed an actual conspiracy.

Hell, I just ordered The Third Policeman from Amazon last night. I'm more than willing to drink the Kool-aid, because the the show delivers on so many levels. Terry O'Quinn's performance last night was incredible. He was one of the reasons I was interested in the show, as I thought he was great in Millenium, a favorite show that never got the ratings it deserved, and was finally destroyed by the writers trying to "fix" it.

If you like a good conspiracy show, you should at least check out the second season of Millienium on DVD, as the show really took off at that point. The first season set everything up, and was great as well. Too bad the third season sucked so bad.

I was poking around and found this directory:

http://www.thehansofoundation.org/images/

It has placeholder for a video and also mentions the Dharma Initiative. I wonder if there's a way to access that freakin' video.

Heh, go to the projects list and move your mouse cursor just below the last project.

It doesn't link anywhere, but that is where that image is used right now.

What exactly did they give away in next week's previews? I can't remember what it was...or even seeing any previews.
