Can you disable "coach mode"? Is it only on Varsity level or is it on AA and Heisman too?
No, it's not really a mode, it's just how EA football works. Unless you input a move, the CPU will maintain control of the player with the icon under it. I love it for deep passes, on O and D, and even on runs sometimes for the first few steps. It does screw me up on some pass plays, though, especially play fakes, but you just have to move the stick,or hold it down, till the paly fake animation is complete. It's not like old 2K where you can let the CPU do the drop-back and the bounce for you. If you do that in EA football, the damn CPU will throw the ball for you.

Wait, I read some where the sim to end is just in Exibition games. Why that logic could not port to dynasty I dont know.

I am an idiot.

I was playing my Dynasty on Heisman. I kept wondering why I was getting killed over and over, well, that was it. Not sure how that level got switched.

Anyway, I played a game last night on AA with 6 minute quarters, starting over with Tulane at Southern Miss. Much more enjoyable. I still lost 30-15, but the game was quite fun. Down 20-7 early in the fourth, the CPU ran a great play action that caught me off guard and led to a pretty 86-yard TD pass to seal the game. I picked off 4 passes -- including two nice user pics -- but turned it over 5 times, including 2 fumbles that just killed me. I'm still struggling to pass but my 8 drops certainly didn't help.

Six minute quarters definitely helped, as the game didn't seem to drag as much.

It's no MVP, and I don't think it's terribly realistic, but I think I'll have fun with the game. I'm not sure if Dynasty will keep me hooked or not. But I am looking forward to the league.

I decided to try to build the SMU Mustangs into a national power again, in honor of former Iowa coach Hayden Fry. They are a pretty fun team to use, they have all sorts of shotgun formations and three decent receivers. You can also earn helmet stickers with them, which is pretty cool. I hope to eventually get an invite into a bigger conference with them, Conference USA doesn't seem like it is going to provide much competition in the long run.

Started a Syracuse season in the Dynasty mode. Was up 17-7 entering the fourth quarter against West Virginia in the season opener and lost 31-24. I fell apart as WVU picked me apart, winning on a TD with three seconds left. What a game.

But I took out my frustration on the University of Buffalo in the second game, winning 41-17. It was 17-17 at halftime after a couple of turnovers led to easy Buffalo scores, but I kept the ball in safe hands during the second half and blew out Buffalo.

Syracuse tailback Damien Rhodes is ranked too high in this game. He's a beast. The kid is a decent Big East running back, but he's not a national-caliber stud. But he seems to be in this game! Checked his rating, and he's a 94. That seems way too high.

Either way, this game is really fun. Really enjoying it.

Take care,

Rival Nebraska comes to Columbia, Missouri tonight to take on my Tigers. Last time they came to town my Dad and I ran onto the field after they finally beat those Cornhuskers. Should be an emotional game.

Has anyone here seen any of the 0'7" tall players during in-season recruiting? There are a few threads over at OS about them, complete with screenshots and videos. The thread about Maestro Murphy in particular is hilarious, watching a 7 inch tall player run the football is awesome. In my new dynasty with SMU, I actually found one of these guys, except he is a little taller at 0'8". He is a 300 lb offensive lineman from Louisiana. I'm doing my best to get him to sign with me, I can't wait to see him block.

My new dynasty with SMU has been a blast so far, I improved my record to 3-0 last night with a huge win on the road against #24 Texas A&M, 21-13. It was probably one of the best offline NCAA games I have ever played, it seemed like every play call I made was the right call, plus I made a couple of timely user picks on defense. It was very rewarding to go up against a team that could physically dominate my team and push them all over the field, yet still pull out a win.

I like how PI is called this year. In the past, you could bump the WR and not get a call, but this year if you're not looking at the ball and slightly bump the WR, it's a PI flag. But if you're looking at the ball and go stride for stride and accidently make contact, no call. Nice that they fixed this aspect of the game.

I have had slowdown at offensive line in my games so I tried a few things and I think I somewhat figured out how to minimize some of the slowdown on the xbox version.

I turned off the 'shake' feature for HFA and my game ran smooth without any slowdown. I later turned the shake option back on and whatever it did, still no slowdown.

If someone else can try this and verify this here please do so. The slowdown I am/was experiencing maybe because I have a old thompson drive but I hope this fixes it.

Had such a great game tonight vs Colorado. I like NCAA so much more than Madden, although in all fairness, I haven't put much time into Madden because for me, NCAA is fun on AA level right out of the box.

It was one of those defensive battles, a 7-7 tie about midway into the 3rd quarter. Colorado punts it into the endzone and I take over on the 20. One play later and my HB takes the ball through the left side and scampers 80 yards for the TD. I just about screamed out loud, but I remembered the kids were asleep. :) Another nice drive and a punt return netted me a 28-14 victory over the #25 team in the nation. I needed that win badly as I've been without my #1 QB, Brad Smith since week #2.

NCAA just has so many more "at any moment" big plays, and I like that. Stats are far from perfect, but the game is so much fun to play. Maybe I'll get into Madden once football season starts, but I'd have to say that NCAA 2006 is becoming one of my favorite football games ever.

I just won the national championship tonight in my second season of my SMU dynasty, playing on default AA level, 5 minute quarters. I beat Boise St. 47-14 to finish off my season with a 14-0 record. It was kind of an unrewarding season, I didn't even play a ranked team until the national title game, and even then it was a team rated only B+ overall. I basically lucked into the game, as Miami and USC both lost in the last week of the season, catapulting both Boise St and I into the title game. I ended up with six first team All Americans, and ended up winning almost every individual award, including having the top two Heisman candidates. My WR won with a 2000 yd season and 22 tds, while my RB was runner up with a 2000 yd season and 37 tds. My freshman SS won the Bednarik and Thorpe, getting 21 sacks and 2 ints. My FS also had an incredible year, finishing with 11 ints and 3 tds despite missing three games due to suspension. Even though I played an easy schedule and my bowl wasn't a challenge, I still had a blast playing out the season.

I'm moving on to Heisman default for my next season, which I'm going to play with Iowa with coach contracts turned off. I figure it will take me awhile to learn to win on this level, and I don't want to end up getting fired after a season or two. I've now played three full seasons on default AA, two with SMU and one with Iowa. I can't believe I'm already starting on my fourth season of dynasty play and it college football season hasn't even started. I'm still having a great time with the game though, and I'm guessing I'm only going to enjoy it more once the real season starts this weekend.

I've never really played more than a season or two in ncaa with one team but this years dynasty is the most robust that I am in my 4th season with Fla St. Madden and 2k5 are ok, but this football game is my game of choice this year.

I MADE THE WRONG CALL!!!

Ok, so I lose the first game of the season to what I thought would be a fairly easy Illinios team. Turns out they have a good offense and I get smacked right in the mouth (they are now 7-0 on the year). I win the next 3 games, capped off by a 38-28 win at home vs Colorado.

I now have this team cranking on all cylindars and my QB is really starting to learn this offense. The 3-1 Tigers head into Texas Tech to take on the Raiders, who are 3-0 and ranked #8 in the nation.

I make some horrible early mistakes and to top it off my QB gets injured and will not return this game. I bring in my backup QB and he can't do a thing, nor can my playmaking RB. I'm down 31-0 late in the 2nd quarter and I decide to bring in my 3rd string freshman QB (he's a lefty and my lone 4 star recruit last year). He marches the Tigers down for a TD and at half it's 31-7.

My team comes alive in the 2nd half and not only is my 3rd string QB lighting it up, my RB breaks off an 85 yard TD and then on the next drive a 45 yard TD. All of a sudden it's the 4th quarter and I'm down 31-24. Texas Tech drives right down the field and scores a TD to make it 38-24. At this point in time I figure the momentum is back to Texas, but I manage a nice drive capped off by a TD throw from my freshman QB, 38-31.

Time is not on my side, but I manage to hold Texas Tech to a 3 and out. Another nice drive by my RB and QB and we tie the game at 38. Texas Tech calls a perfect play and my blitz is picked up, 60 yards later and Texas Tech is back in the lead, 45-38. I go 3 and out and they get the ball back. I take timeouts, but they make a first down. On a 3rd and 2, I come out with a goalline blitz and they throw an incompletion. The punt goes out of the endzone and I have 1:28 to go 80 yards.

I run some out patterns and my freshman QB is making dead accurate throws. On 3rd and 10, my WR makes a great diving catch and we're still alive. With 12 seconds left and time ticking down I see my 4th string WR cut towards the end zone and I hit him right in the numbers with a bullet pass and he gets knocked out at the 1 yard line. Immediately I start to sulk, but WAIT! there is 1 second left in the game. What do I call? What do I call?? My hands are sweaty as I think about what I'm going to do.

I SHOULD have went to my playmaking RB who had 213 yards rushing and 3 TD's already in the game.........BUT I DON'T, I think.. "I'll go to my freshman FB who's big and strong, they'll be looking for my RB to get the ball, and I'll hit 'em right in the mouth". As I come to the line, the crowd is deafening. My fullback tries to go in behind the LG, but there is nowhere to go and as I bounce outside, their playmaking ROLB tackles my FB and the game is over. ARRRGGGGHHHH!!! I SHOULD HAVE GIVEN THE BALL TO MY RB MARCUS WOODS!!!!!

Heck of a game... I'm still pumped up and should be in bed. :)
