It appears the overwhelming consensus is for 5 minute quarters, so we will stick with that.
Excellent, now that breakfast boy is gone our divisions seem to fold out very nicely.

Zeppo has the schedule pretty much taken care of and we don't have much fight over the quarter length and settings. I think 5 minutes quarters is more than suitable for the league as everyone has stated. If sliders were able to be used online for non-ranked games then it might make sense to alter the quarter lenght, but since that isn't possible it will be best for us to just stick with default 5 minute quarter un-ranked games.

With that in mind we could be in for our first game night this weekend.
I'm working the next 3 weekends. Was Wednesday also considered a choice for game night?
Definately, we will put up a poll to decide which are the best nights of the week to play.

The weekends don't seem to be good for alot of people, but we may have to have either a Saturday or Sunday. We will see...

Defend it. Seriously, if a guy keeps rolling out, or calling the same running play, how hard is it to adjust and stop it?

I consider myself to be as sim as anyone, but the moment we start enforcing silly house rules, that's when everyone stops having fun. If you're man to man with my best WR, you're damn right I'm going to him. To me, it's simple football. If you're not covering my backs in the flats, guess what, I'll keep feeding it to them. I think the only thing that's being exploited is the defensive playcalling of your opponent.
You're right, Sully. My comments were mainly coming out of frustration. I call the same play a lot myself, but it's not a cheese play. Ace Twins - HB Dive...call it all the time. Flip it and call it again.

As for stopping the qb run, option, or even passes in the flats, they're really no problem for me, but the deep ball really is a problem for a lot of people as seen in a lot of posts over at OS. I wish EA had given us the ability to apply double coverage to a particular receiver like we could do in Madden. For me, I think that would alleviate the problem for the most part. You guys must be pretty good if you can take control of a cb, follow a faster receiver all the way down the field, and at the last minute jump up and knock the ball away. The very best I can do is to hit B right before the ball gets there, then hit the swat button, but I usually miss and the guy catches the ball and runs for the TD.

I do like the game, but it feels like in order to be successful you have to be able to pull off Mortal Kombat type finishing moves to complete a pass or play defense.

I guess the deep ball isn't a problem for me because I've only played people that or more concerned with playing a sim game, rather than dropping back 10 yards and heaving it 50. I'd be frustrated too if that's all my opponent's offense consisted of.

If that's all my opponent did, I would run a lot of 3 and 4-deep coverages, kick back and relax and wait for that quit to come. I find a HUGE difference between a deep ball with a safety helping, and a deep ball with a corner or safety all alone. Two or three defenders really makes it tough to make the catch, if they are sandwiching the guy over and under (or in and out on a crossing pattern). Not that I haven't had a couple crazy catches, especially if I lead the receiver right and become the receiver and make the play. But if I am locked up on one guy deep, becoming the receiver I feel really good about making the play; if there is safety help, it's much, much tougher.

On D, same thing. I still feel like I have a chance on D if I am all alone, if I make an extraordinary play I can become, speed boost, and L-trigger for the knock-down (very effective); if I have safety help, my chances of breaking it up goes way up. The big problems come when I hit that Y button instead of the safer L-trigger.

I think the key to deep balls really is becoming the guy and making the play, on O and D. I would expect, especially in college ball, if a receiver is running a fly and there is no safety, that there's a good chance that will be a TD or at least a big play. That's football. Same token, I would expect that if I am in a cover-4 D with LBs dropping into zone, that a run up the gut will gain some mad yardage; and so it happens unless a DL makes a big play.

That's what I'm digging about this game so much; I need to TRY to stop the run to be able to stop, which leaves me open to the pass. Worrying too much about the deep ball, and I will give up lots of running yards. I have to take that gamble once in a while and sell out on the run and hope he's not looking to go over the top, and I have to predict and anticipate when he will be trying to go over the top, and hope he doesn't call that draw play. I am really liking the balance in this game.

I might be able to take over Weaver's spot to save you the hassle of making new schedules. The problem is, my 2 month free subscription that DB gave me ran out, so I will have to create a new XBL account. I actually have an unused code that should work, I can try it out tonight if you want me in the league.

Or you can always just renew it man...it's worth 50 bones. I don't think I've got another card laying around.

We'll see. I am trying to convince Weaver that the schedule is pretty laid-back, and will be able to accommodate his hours.

But we may well need you to step in at some point, if you really want in. If you had signed up before the deadline, I would have made up a schedule wtih no big problems, it's just a little late at this point.

I mean, I could add in that 9th team if you really, 100% want in. Or you can sit back and see what happens over the first few weeks, see if people feel like they need to drop out. I don't think anything will really break this league, even after we get going. We just might end up with some teams playing 12 games and some playing only 10, but it should still work.

Yeah, I've taken being cheap to the extreme when I'm just using free subscription cards every couple of months. :) I just haven't wanted to spend the 50 bucks considering I almost never play online even when I do have an active account. I've mainly just been using the cards so I can download stuff like roster updates and new maps for games. I've actually got a code that a friend gave me last week, I'll try it out tonight to see if it works.

Does anybody know if you will have to make a new account for XBL on the Xbox 360? I don't want to pay for a year of XBL if I'm only going to be using it for a few months until the 360 comes out.

You won't need a new account for the 360, your existing Xbox Live account will transfer over.

No, I don't really want in, I would have signed up before the deadline if I did. I was on vacation when everybody picked teams, and the team I always use was already picked by the time I saw the thread. I'm just making the offer to take over his spot if it would help you guys out, since I think the league looks cool and I didn't want any dropouts to mess you up. You don't need to add me as an additional team or anything.

OK, so Weaver is definitely out. HipE, you are free to fill his spot if you are into it, but it's not necessary if you don't really want to. The schdule will still be fine, plus I 'm sure we'll be tweaking schedule stuff after a few weeks, so don't feel pressured to join unless you really want in.

Also, you are free to pick a different team if you want to. I think you will still have to be in the Western Division no matter what, but I may change things up depending.

Since everything is still fine with your scheduling, I'll pass on taking over Weaver's spot. I hadn't considered the division I would be in, and the Western Division wouldn't have worked for me since I go to bed fairly early and I'm in the midwest.

I recruited dieselboy from OS.

With this addition we still have 24 which will make the brackets a ton easier.

OK, I don't know this dieselboy. He needs to register and get a-posting in here. This is the DSP league. What team does he want? What time zone is he in, or does he care? Just make sure he knows this is a cheese-free league, no running up the score, no quitting.

Dieselboy registered yesterday, I believe. He's from Washington, and he plays straight up. He'll probably want Washington St., but don't quote me on that.

Ah, now I get it. The Champion! Lol. So you guys know him? Cool.

I'll pencil in Washington St. pending his confirmation. It actually would sit right where Cal vacated! Perfect!
