So no one is getting Enthusia racing?
What is with the lack of interest? This game is getting great reviews from players. Just tried it a few days ago and was very impressed. Though it's not as meaty as GT4 or Forza in the options department, it's an impressive first effort that focuses on the most important thing, the driving engine.

Yah, I saw that. I've done my part to hype this game since last year but it didn't stand up to pk's Forzamania media blitz.

I will not be picking this up. I played the OPM demo and thought the driving model sucked. The cars felt light and appeared to "run on rails" through the turns. Seemed very arcadish to me, which Midnight Club 3 is filling right now. In fact, I did not need to brake once and routinely hit turns at full bore without even spinning out or losing any control. Maybe it was an early build but I wasn't impressed at all.
Never tried the demo, perhaps it also had to do with the cars and tracks available, but most seem to think they severely tuned the driving engine since then. I'd be very surprised if Forza doesn't seem more arcadish.Gman33 wrote:I will not be picking this up. I played the OPM demo and thought the driving model sucked. Well fortunately most people at the gamespot/gamefaqs forums disagree. Not the smartest thing always to put out demos that far ahead of time but it's also not always smart for players to use them to condemn a game that doesn't come out for months.vinny-b wrote:no one's interested.
and i played the demo. The suckage was beyond the scope of this forum.

Well, normally I would agree, but their comments are actually sim-oriented so they may not be the usual gamespot crowd. Most of them hate GT4, which is a good sign when it comes to evaluating realistic physics and a driving engine.
I know this game won't get as high review scores as Forza, but I believe it has the chance to gain an underground following like TOCA.

huh? Crappy AI, no online play, no damage... sure. But the GT series has always been considered to have pretty good physics and driving engine on a console game. (I have not played GT4 though)Parker wrote: Most of them hate GT4, which is a good sign when it comes to evaluating realistic physics and a driving engine.
To each his own. I believe the driving in GT4 is about as realistic as my chances of winning forum member of the year. But the opponent AI in Enthusia as as good as I've seen in any console racing game.

Richard Burns Rally has the most realistic driving engine for any racer in recent years, even the console versions.
GT is not the most acradish racer, don't get me wrong, and if you want a really horrible driving model, try Sega GT. GT offers a decent arcade-sim mix but is not nearly as much a pure sim as Enthusia. Konami would not have invested in 2 what would seem to be similiar racers if they did not want Enthusia to be aimed more at the realism crowd.

In that case, how playable is Enthusia with the Dual Shock? I could imagine that if Forza seemed arcadish by comparison, the DS might not be the best tool for the job.Parker wrote:I'd be very surprised if Forza doesn't seem more arcadish.
The previews over here all say the driving engine has a bundle of understeer built into it, GMan's impressions don't, but neither view has me all that impressed. I'll pick it up, but more out of curiosity than desire.
Cheers,
Simo
I'm not sure, I can try it tomorrow, but I've used a steering wheel all along. Which is why I'm not big on xbox racing games, I've yet to have as good of an experience with a wheel.

Ok, I tried the demo again using a different track and a harder car. The demo is dated Dec '04. While driving it reminded me of the Ridge Racer powerslides through the turns. The car seemed to stick to the road too much. Also you really have to mash on the X button to give it gas, very annoying. Hopefully Konami fixed the pressure sensitivity in the final build. On a positive note, the car models look nice and it has that cheesy Sega arcade fluff guitar rock as background music.
