In ASB 2005 (and I got really mad when I saw this in the manual, which sucked for there was no detailed franchise instructions) to throw to a base you have to press on X for HOME, O for 1st, TRIANGLE for 2nd, and SQUARE for 3rd. No! I didn't see any option to reconfigure controls either.

I'm not so sure, seems like both sides may be partially right. At least that's the results of my "testing." In any event, I don't think any problem is worth losing sleep over. There are plenty of other things wrong with the game that are far worse.
