College Hoops 2K6 Impressions thread

Post by bdoughty »

Since 2Ksports is doing a piss poor job in creating hype. Who all is picking this game up? What teams are you going to play with?

I plan to run a couple Legacies. Oklahoma, North Texas and I will find a small school back East to play with, possibly St Francis PA.

Also just noticed that it may get pushed back. EB still has it shipping the 7th but Gamstop now says it will ship the 14th.

I'm assuming it's back to $40 right? I loved last years title but if it's $40 this year I will pass since I'm getting the 360. I think there's a 360 version coming out either in December or January. If the game gets good feedback here I'll likely pick it up for the 360.

I'm planning on getting it at least by the weekend after it's released. I just hope the dynasty mode is more stable -- I had so many problems with it last year, I couldn't use it.

360 version ships January 1st according to EB. If Fry's has the Xbox version for $19.99 I'll consider it.

The Xbox version is still scheduled for the 7th, while the PS2 is now showing a release date on the 14th.

I enjoyed last year's version, and am looking forward to this year's.

Thanks Bd :x I'm just trying to ignore the calendar dates in hopes the 7th will be here before I know it. But noooooo, you had to go and create a CH 2K6 hype post!

Believe it or not, I'm more excited about this game than I am about the launch of the 360. Crazy, huh?

I'm without a doubt going to run with the Jayhawks. I mean, how could I not? I'm more excited to use them this year as they have such a young nucleus. If the rosters are accurate, I'm going to up the defensive pressure intensity as KU has a lot of depth.

Last year, I had more fun starting out with a crappy team. UMKC Roos. Heck, I even played more games with them than KU. They actually had a couple decent players, one of which could shoot lights from downtown (Watson was his name). I had some tremendously fun games and coming oh so close to upsetting N.C. State.

What ineviteably ruined the game for me was the insane cold streaks your team could go on. I got blown out at Allen Fieldhouse more than a couple times because none of my players could make a shot. Not Simien, not Langford, etc. It felt a bit scripted and unrealistic at times. For whatever reason, the home court advantage didn't seem all that of an advantage.

I'm hoping this year they've rectified some minor issues. If they have, I can't see playing another game more than this one.

This is by far my favorite title, but I wouldn'tr say I am excited, they haven't given us anything to be excited about.

I still buy it, and start my coach franchise with good old New Hampshire again :)

Can't go wrong being one of the worst teams in the history of college basketball year in and year out. I think they have had a grand total of 10 winning season in over 100 years of basketball. Real good stats there.

Gamestop now has both PS2 and Xbox on the 14th. EB still says the 7th. I was looking forward to getting it Tuesday but it looks like one more week.

I don't think I have ever seen a game promoted less then this game has been. It would concern me a little if NBA 2K6 was not as good as it is. I am betting they are holding back to put a big push on the 360 games and spend money on those.

Well the fact that Take Two's / 2K finacial earnings reports were not very good and their was rumor of a buy out, probably has something to do with the lack of promotion.

Hell if they just fix the recruting freezes I had last year I would be happy with it.

This game is a definite pickup for me. Was the best roundball game last year imo. Is it just me though or does 2k have the worst marketing people in the business? Their NBA2k6 advertising is pretty weak and the advertising for CB2K6 is almost nonexistent. Visual Concepts is great at making games but they suck at promoting them. They always have

I really enjoyed last year's game despite the flaws, but I'm having so much fun with NHL 2K6 -- just started a full Oilers' season with Flyermania's superb All-Star sliders -- that I'm not getting CH 2K6.

I'm sure it will be a fine game, but it just wouldn't get much playing time by me because I'm digging NHL 2K6 arguably more than any team sports game I've played.

Eager to read impressions of CH 2K6 in here, as I'm sure I'll give it a rent.

Take care,
PK

There sure wasn't a lot of information regarding the gameplay. It's really difficult to guage whether or not this game has improved. My initial take is that the presentation has taken a step back but the gameplay has stayed pretty much the same. I'm curious whether the A.I. makes smarter decisions and if the three point tendency slider makes a difference.

I'm tempted to wait until the 360 version because my feeling is that the game will be much improved not only graphically, but presentation and gameplay wise.

A comparison between last year’s collegiate hoop offerings resulted in pretty much a wash, but 2K is out to change that this year with College Hoops 2K6. College Hoops 2K6 is all about the spirit, and the ol’ college try, but will that be enough to rattle the highly seeded Madness going on over at EA?
After reading that quote, I decided that I was not going to learn a whole lot about College Hoops in this review. And lo and behold, I was right.

Wow!

That is one of the worst written reviews I have ever read. How do you give the gameplay a 9, but never actually talk about it in the review. The gameplay section gets a page and a half in that revew and I learned nothing except the right thumb stick is the shot stick and I am not even sure I know what that means.

It just follows NBA 2K6 in using the shot stick. You can still use a button to shoot but this come in handy.

Explains how it works in the NBA Game. I hated it at first but since I now use the R-Stick so often in NCAA 06 it became natural to use it in the hoops game.

That's pretty funny since I would have bought it had it come out this week...to get me by the next two weeks, but since it's being pushed back, down go sales. I am sure that most other people will do the same that were on the fence. Not exactly a smart move to release next to the 360.

Agreed... If I was getting a 360 I would definately wait and get that version. Since I am holding off on until next year I have it paid off and twiddling my thumbs waiting to pick the stupid thing up. It is my last gaming purchase of the year and hopefully it won't get pushed back any farther.

Like Bdoughty this is my last videogaming purchase until baseball in the spring. I only enjoy sports games--try to get into other genres but fail miserably.

By the way Bdoughty....I'm trying to hold off on the 360 until either baseball season or the next version of ncaa football.....its nice to know I have a partner.....kind of like AA if you will.
