And so it begins with EA and cutting next gen features

Post by bdoughty »

Apparently posted at OS but I found this at GAF

EGM Magazine
I'm scanning through it now and hear this. Madden and Al Michaels will no the commentators for the 360 version. They say the no name announcer not announcers will call the game like he works for the teams local radio station. Saying he'll sound more emotional when you make a great play. But the ask madden feature is still in the game.

They also have a small section saying "why next gen madden ain't all that." It will not have owner or superstar mode. No classic teams and no create a player.

Some other stuff while scanning through. If you have surround sound you can hear a defender's footsteps and his heavy breathing behind you. I'll post more later when i get home as i'm getting ready to leave work.

No Superstar Mode or owners mode... I called that one a few months back.

Pathetic if true EA.... PATHETIC

This is EA we are talking about here.

Remove stuff from next gen games so your marketing team can come up with more spiffy trademarked names to re-feature it in a future version.

Like: SuperDuperStar Mode (tm EA 2006)

It is why Tiger Woods 360 will only have 6 courses. Also why the first PS2 version of the game only had 3. Remember the first March Madness on the PS2 did not even have a season mode. I could go on but I am sure you are getting the point.

I still stand by the opinion that the REAL next gen game is being held for the PS3 and the largest part of the EA marketplace. Madden 360 is simply a filler and a means to squeeze more money out of a console launch with limited efforts. Kind of like what EA has done this whole generation with the Xbox. Do just enough to get by and keep it's customers.

Who cares? Get the game working first and then worry about all the other bullshit features. If it plays like the Xbox version and has online play I could care less if it has Create-a-player, owner mode, superstar mode, or Classic teams. If that's what's important to you as a sports gamer then don't get the game. It really is as simple as that.

I care, otherwise I would not have posted this. If you have no issue with EA removing features from games simply to repackage in a future version then you are part of the problem. Congrats, EA loves consumers like you, willing to take anything they offer. I will wait to get a Xbox 360 before I decide if I purchase this or not, but just because this does not affect you does not mean it is not worth discussion.

So F*CK OFF.

Then please clue us in. Because until I hear the so-called facts, I agree with Brent. This is typical EA bullsh*t.

Quick question....is EA holding a gun to your head making you purchase the game? Do you even have a CLUE what it takes to pull off a first game for a NEW system in which you are JUST NOW getting final development hardware for?

Retail price for the games will be $59.99. I figure if they charge more we should expect more. Silly me and please go back to making more excuses about your precious EA.

As for my comment to Scoop, it was to HIM, not you.

As far as TW for 360 is concerned, EA has employed a number extra artists (Headgate Studios, etc...) to help create the all new courses for the 360 version. These courses have an exponential amount of additional textures, trees and plantings that even the PC version does not have. The courses are virtually built from the ground up. Also keep in mind that EA has a budget for ALL versions of TW and the fact that they have fewer people to do an additional version they did not have to create last year does have an impact on what features can be put in the game with the timetable alloted. I don't like 6 courses either, but it is double what they did for TW2001 PS2 with far more people in the development team. I assume some here will try to discredit what I have posted here, so if you aren't interested in commenting on the facts, please don't waste our collective time...

First, I have no co-workers at EA.

You would not know a fact about TW production if it bit you in the ass. If you want to spar with me bud, you better lace 'em up pretty damn tight. Bring it....

You guys both live in Texas...just get together and punch the sh*t out of each other already.

And thanks for the info Divot...I imagine recreating all of the courses would be a hellava chore if you're doing it from the ground up essentially.

How many want to bet that 'next-gen' graphics and modes will suddenly appear when the PS3 comes out.

Someone calling the game other than Madden and Michaels is actually a selling point for me

By lack of owner's mode, do they mean no franchise at all, or just none of the financial stuff (ticket prices, etc.). If there's still a franchise mode, I'm still interested. If not, no way I'm buying this.

Did you just get finished watching "You Got Served" or is this how you really talk?

You have made the claim of doing freelance work for EA, like it or not that makes them co-workers. Sorry but when you are too close to something your objectivity gets skewed, but you have proven that NUMEROUS times.

Honestly I tire of arguing with you. Please just put my fat ass on ignore, people are going to say bad things about EA on the internet. Deal with it.

Ahh, that is okay bd...I don't want to hurt the guy nor injure anyone over a silly game or forum. However, if there is anything I cannot stand it is misinformation. It is a shame that some people have to resort to offensive personal attacks and profanity to get their point across. I would expect more maturity from someone with his verbal acuity and intelligence.

Your welcome. I am sorry if my post was a bit heated. I have a love/hate relationship with first titles of new hardware, especially with Tiger. I understand people being upset about only 6 courses, hell I am! However, there is a reason and the reason is very likely not to sit well with consumers. As a fellow consumer I DO understand how most people feel. Sure wish there was something I could do to change it....

For as much as I like to bash EA, even I have trouble believing that they wouldn't have a create a player feature in Madden. That's been in videogames since time began, and I couldn't imagine it would take more than 2 weeks for a 4 person development team to implement. I'll wait to see the EGM article (or better yet, the game itself) before I believe this.

Yes what part of:

6 courses on the Xbox 360 and
3 on the PS2 was misinformation?

Everything I posted was a fact. You are just the one to spin it into something that makes you feel better about their slighting the consumer, yet charging $10 more

As for not wanting to hurt or injure me? Not enough roll eyes emoticons in the world for that one tough guy.

Claim? Please fire up Tiger 2003 and 2004 for PC and look under Course Photography. You will find my name. However, I was an independent contractor to EA, so that hardly qualifies me as a "co-worker".
bdoughty wrote:Sorry but when you are too close to something your objectivity gets sqewed, but you have proven that NUMEROUS times.
Here is where you constantly get yourself in trouble. I have been minimally involved with EA for the past year. I have not done any work for them in TWO years. While I have actually admitted that at times my objectivity is questionable, at least I am MAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT IT. In this case, I have stuck solely with the facts and yet again, you chose to try to discredit me. Your problem, not mine.

And be the bigger man? Nah that is not my style. Plus you were the one who took my FACTS and twisted into somehow being MISINFORMATION. You are the one that pissed in my Post Toasties.

Now let's see if you can follow your own advice and fess up to the yellow tint in my milk.

Edit: On second thought I will be the bigger man. I am sure this forum will be better off without me. PK I simply request that you ban the bdoughty account as we all know I have no willpower.

Thanks in advance,

Did I dispute these facts? I am disputing the thread title

"And so it begins with EA and cutting next gen features".

You made the accusation that EA cut the number of courses so that they could up the number the next year, but still charge more. I corrected you regarding Tiger and you are continuing to try to discredit me.

Let's get something straight doughty, when it comes to Tiger, you better find a source of FACTS to support your accusations. Your substitution of your anti-EA opinion is a POOR substitute for facts. I am in a position to know a great deal more about TW and EA than you do. When you post misinformation about TW and/or EA, count on my reply to correct your misinformation.
bdoughty wrote:As for not wanting to hurt or injure me? Not enough roll eyes emoticons in the world for that one tough guy.
I am always amazed at the claims/accusations that people make towards another person through a forum without ever having met that person. You have no clue who or what is at the other end. It would be a good idea if you dropped the chest-thumping routine...

Well, if the PS3 is released in March and Tiger is a launch title with 12 courses, then I guess we'll know where EA's allegiance lies. Either that, or the checks for the development team will have cleared by then.

Seriously, Tim, the bastard love child of Ray Charles and Jose Feliciano could see that EA treats the Xbox family of products like second-class citizens. From the late adoption of Xbox Live (at the same time XSN disappeared -- and I wouldn't put an EA-on-XBL-for-the-death-of-XSN blackmail past EA), to the paucity of modes for Madden 360 to the lack of courses for Tiger 360 to the lightly upgraded Xbox graphics for FIFA 360, the Xbox 360 is a low priority for EA. It looks like Port City from the Xbox with graphical upgrades, some nice, some slight.

We'll see what the EA lineup looks like at the launch of the PS3. I'll bet the farm that it will be a hell of a lot more robust than that for the Xbox 360 launch.

You say the development kits were late arriving from MS. Does EA have the PS3 development kits from Sony yet?

Take care,
PK
