Colts! But Tampa was screwed ...
I fell asleep on the couch at about 8:45 p.m. last night. Woke up around 11 and saw Tampa pull out to a 28-7 lead over Indianapolis, so I said, "F*ck it," and went to bed.

Needless to say, I was shocked when I read about the Colts´ comeback in the paper this morning!

Then I watched the highlights on ESPN this morning. Yes, the Colts made a very, very ballsy comeback, and Tampa collapsed. But the "leaping" call on Simeon Rice on the first game-winning field goal attempt in OT was one of the worst I´ve seen in an NFL game in a very long time. Rice touched no one when he jumped, and he only landed on one of his teammates because the teammate was blocked into his landing area.

Absolute horseshit. Still, the Colts were a deserving team because of the fantastic comeback, but it´s a shame such a brilliant game was marred by such an awful call.

Take care,
PK

I did not see the game or the highlights, but if it was such a bad call, why no challenge? Are they not allowed to challenge in OT. I thought the whole point of Instant Replay being brought back was to not have games decided by blatantly bad calls.

DChaps,
I didn´t see the game either but the types of plays that can be challenged are:
To determine whether or not a player caught the ball (in bounds or just the catch itself)
To determine the spot of the ball
To determine if a fumble occured before the player was down

Stuff like that.

Penalties can´t be challenged or reviewed.

Hmmm. Is an illegal forward pass a reviewable play (QB crossing line of scrimmage)? I had that reviewed in a multi-player game of ESPN last week. I was yelling because I got a TD on the play and it was obvious I didn´t cross the line, but the booth called for a review and overturned the penalty call on the field.

They read the rule last night because Madden/Micheals were even confused. The rule stated that if you run more than a yard and leap up and come down on one of your own teammates, it is an unsportmanlike penalty. That is exactly what Rice did so leaping was called as aposed to a "leverage" call. It may be a bad rule such as the old "tuck" rule that help give New England a Super Bowl a few years ago.

facking ridiculous. i´ve never seen that penalty called ever and people "leap" on every kick. luckily i could give a crap about either team (go niners ) in any case, as a soccer fan i´m used to bad calls affecting the outcomes of games.

Gruden was all class after the game. He said even if the refs did blow the call, there was no way he could blame them for the loss. He said they had plenty of opportunities to win that game long before it ever came down to that FG.

Two games this week that had bad calls.

3 Block in the Backs when Dante Hall took it all the way against the Broncos.

TB "the leap".

I know the offciatins is always suspect to human error but the NFL needs to have that offical in the box do something. He´s an official right. I think we need to get to the point where penalties can be reviewed or plays that had blatant panlties be reviewed. Would that open a can of worms. Just do it like the challange system now but add one more challage. So you get 3 challanges just like 3 TO´s. And coach´s can challage penalties and challange plays where a blatent panalty occured.

I watched most of the game, including the ending. What surprised me was the horrific kicks by the "liquored up" kicker. Seemed he choked under pressure a little bit. He barely made that 29 yard field goal (was that blocked? Madden and Michaels didn´t mention it, wouldn´t expect them to notice that anyway...)...and got luck on the 39 yard penalty call.

Anyway, good win for the Colts and for Peyton. Should push off some of the naysayers.
