Anyone interested in a DSP Moto GP 2 league?

Post by pk500 »

Boys:

After playing such a fun session of Moto GP 2 last night on 100 percent sim across the board, I´m thinking of starting and hosting a weekly Moto GP 2 league here at DSP.

I´m thinking of this format: We race a certain number of tracks per night, two- to three-lappers, and keep score for that night. I´ll keep a cumulative score over the weeks so we can have weekly winners and a season champion after a set number of weeks.

One catch on this, though, and I´m rigid on this: 100 percent sliders, across the board. 100 percent collision, 100 percent handling, 100 percent off-road. Collisions on. Pure sim.

Any takers? I´m not certain I want to start this, but I want to gauge interest.

Thanks!

Take care,
PK

This is off topic but I have to say something about racing games in the US or maybe games in general.

After looking at the reviews for MotoGP and Colin McRae 4, I´m almost convinced that EA Sports or maybe games in the US have very little clue as to what the game needs. Would EA Sports ever include a 100% sim slider in their games. I don´t think they would. They beleive any form of realism will turn off the gamer.

Take a look at WE7 (BTW PK it might be coming to the Xbox!!) It´s not dumbed down and it sells better than FIFA.

Even EA Sports goes against itself half the time. Madden is the biggest seller they have and by far the most realistic of every EA Sports game made this year. Yet EA Sports puts out games where they aren´t realistic or they don´t want to be. They are getting better and maybe they see the light, NHL, MVP, FIFA all look like a different game from year´s past.

Anyway PK your post about 100% sliders got me thinking and this is something implemented in all games.

Back to your original programming.

As I said in DChaps´ SR thread, I´d like to say yes but I can´t. My evenings are too crazy these days. I´d like to join a race here and there but I won´t be able to commit to a whole season.

Have fun though!

I just got MotoGP 2 last week and I´m loving it. I haven´t built up much of a bike yet, but count me in. I´ll race TheTruth for last place.

Not sure if I can commit to play or not. We have and forth coming staffing change at work and that means my schedule will be changing for the time being.

If the schedule works out, I´ll certainly run last

If you guys are going to have a league, I may just have to find me a copy of this game. There may well be days I don´t make, but, so consider it a dns for personal reasons, and there goes the championship. Not that I would ever have a chance at a championship, anyhow.

So what day and time works best for everyone? Also, make sure you post your Xbox gamertag if you are interested.

We could make this a very casual championship. I even have a system that I used in a couple Nascar Racing leagues to award some points, even if you miss a race, based on previous performance, etc. That way no one gets too far behind. We could also have a throw out your worst race rule, or worst 2 races.

Opps. My GT is : CP Zeppo

However, I don´t have the game yet, and my local video rental joints don´t seem to carry it. They´ve got plenty of copies of the first one, but not Moto GP 2.

I hope to get my hands on it soon so y´all can lap me for championship points!

PS would you have a set schedule of tracks? Since I would be new to this game, being able to practice on tracks which I know will be used for that week would be helpful. Maybe if a decision could be made by whoever is the commish of the league (pk is that gonna be you? DC?) a few days in advance of race day, that sort of thing.

Also Tuesday nights is great for me, as would be Wed and Thurs. Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights have too much good football on.

Yeah, that might be cool. I literally haven´t raced MotoGP2 in more than a month or two, but it´d be fun to get back into it.

I´m all for a DSP MotoGP 2 league with 100% Sim settings except for one thing.

If we´re doing a series of competitive 2- to 5-lap sprint races, then I think it would be best if collisions were set off. Having collisions on during sprint races increases the sense of urgency for people to quickly pass a rider in front during questionable situations, which lead to more accidental crashes, and more pissed off players who had gotten taken out from behind by someone else and may want revenge of some sort. And this would lead to an ugly situation that no one wants to happen.

Let´s face it... a rider would not have a shot at finishing anywhere near a podium spot in a sprint race starting from the 3rd or 4th rows of the grid (9th-16th positions) unless he/she gets incredibly lucky. If collisions are set on, I believe the race has to at least be 10 laps to give those who start at the bottom half of the grid a slim but reasonable shot at finishing at one of the top positions. Otherwise I would vote to leave collisions off.

And finally, I suggest that there should be a qualifying session held prior to each race to determine starting positions.

Interesting, I don´t know if I have played with collisions off. Does it make it like each rider is a ghost, allowing you to pass through no matter what the position of the other rider? If so, that would almost just make it seem like hotlapping to me.

Although you are correct, at 100% sim with collisions you could certainly be setting up for some "grudges".

I am all for qualifying as well. However, I am open for whatever everyone else wants to do.

Kruza has far more experience online than me so he probably knows whats best.

Qualifying is fine, although I have no problem setting the grid by championship position, either. That creates a reward system for better riders, too.

I don´t like the idea of no collisions, though. DChaps is right: Races become nothing but group hotlaps without collisions.

Crashes are part of racing. Mistakes are part of racing. The "red mist" is part of racing.

I think we´re all mature and composed enough not to take each other out and ride within ourselves. I participated in a Sports Reviewers Moto GP league last year that was great fun, as everyone raced hard yet respected each other on the circuit. We all put the series in perspective, too: It was fun, not a way to define and reinforce our manhood.

Kruza, I´m not saying you race that way. In fact, you´re one of the most mellow dudes I´ve ever played/raced on XBL. I dig racing/shooting with you.

But I think collisions are part of racing. Removing them would strip some of the strategy and skill from the races.

Take care,
