Anyone else still playing MLB?
I know that most people on this board seemed to prefer MVP a few weeks ago, but I was wondering if anyone else iis still playing 989's game besides me. Personally, I think MLB is the best baseball game I've ever played, by far, although I only play Season mode and would have no comment on Franchise or Career modes. I also have never had a single freeze.
I just hope the PSP version is this good when it's released this week. I'll be in baseball heaven.

I have all of the baseball titles plus Pro Spirits 2 on order and I play MLB most of the time. It seems to capture the best Simulation IMO.GTHobbes wrote:I know that most people on this board seemed to prefer MVP a few weeks ago, but I was wondering if anyone else iis still playing 989's game besides me. I hope they were able to get in all of the personalized batting and pitching stuff on the psp. I read a little blurb about MLB/PSP in this past week's Sporting News magazine. Said something about the presentation being great, so that was good to hear. I'm kind've surprised about the lack of preview info available for MLB PSP. Guess it will be here soon enough.

Yes, and I'm enjoying it the most out of all the baseball titles. The funny thing is I absolutely dislike baseball as a sport(left after the strike in '94 and have not came back) but MLB is really making me believe that the sport isn't really doomed. My cyber sport(s) of choice is Hockey, then Golf, but MLB is trying to horn in on the action.GTHobbes wrote:I know that most people on this board seemed to prefer MVP a few weeks ago, but I was wondering if anyone else iis still playing 989's game besides me. Mind you, this is from someone that hasn't played cyber bball game in years(can anyone say Triple Play?), I find myself coming back for more after I finish a game. This game really conveys the feeling of the game moreso than MVP, and MLB(which I have and are collecting dust). Can't wait till Tues or Weds so I can pick it up for my PSP.

Wow. You go from not playing a baseball game for years to buying your 4th game of one season! Why the change of heart?ddtrane wrote:Mind you, this is from someone that hasn't played cyber bball game in years(can anyone say Triple Play?), I find myself coming back for more after I finish a game. I lost a lot of interest after the many problems in career mode. I have been playing nothing but MVP the last week or so on the PC with mods. Because how fun the career mode was in the beginning in MLB, I decided to try something similar in MVP.
I created a player for my dynasty and placed myself on the Dodgers minor league "A" team. I didn't jack up my attributes at all, that would defeat the purpose of what I'm trying to accomplish. I play most of the games and some I manage. I keep an eye on the emails, this is how I know when to get moved up or down. The manager will tell you you are playing good and should be moved up or you are out of your league and should be moved down.
Only problems is that I think you can not changes teams, I'm not sure about this yet because I have not got that far. Hopefully I can change ownership in the next few years?
I'll prolly return to MLB for season play soon on the PS2 or the PSP if I get one.

That's what I'm hoping for...but now I've learned not to place too much emphasis on MLB actually being a playable game. I'll be happy if it's solid, but I'm not expecting anything.Leebo33 wrote:I prefer zone hitting and would love to play a season of MLB on the PSP. Why? Because I've been spending more time browsing this forum. I appreciate the fact that all you gents play more than just Madden and NBA Live(unlike my buddies). I appreciate the fact that you all are "well-rounded" sports gamers. My buds laugh at me cause I like TW, Links, and NHL 2K5. I have tried to tell them that there are other sports gaming options than just football and basketball.Leebo33 wrote:Wow. But the change of heart is because I was so down on baseball, but I'm getting over it(the strike of '94). Also, listening to you gents, I went and rented WE8 and am really digging some footie action although I suck. This game is showing me the ins and outs of the game and am beginning to understand it.
Sorry for the long post.

It's really a shame, too. I love MLB.
Maybe try renting a copy from Blockbuster or some other place. I purchased MLB on release day and the game would freeze more times then not. I recenty rented MLB from Blockbuster and have played roughly 7 or 8 games without one freeze (presentations set to many)
I know 7 or 8 games isn't nearly enough to say this game won't freeze, but it's been a lot better (so far) then my purchased copy. Almost wish I still had that so I could do the old switch-a-roo.
I'm definately still playing it. It plays the best game of the "Big 3". All three games have positives but MLB feels/plays the best. It does have some issues but it simply does all the little things I love the best. If MVP's pitcher/batter interface was like MLB's then MVP would be in serious contention. I just despise its current hitting interface. Other than that its a super piece of software.
