WE8: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL

Post by MUTTS »

Well it finally happened! 7th game of my Italian League (I believe thats Serie A to you soccer cats) in my first ever go round with this title and I finally scored a goal (3* level). Now of course it was just a penalty kick- but I was pretty f*ing psyched.

Immediately I took to the defensive hoping to get the win. Nearly blew it 7-8 times and then midway through the second half I sent a corner kick in front of the net and headed that badboy in for a "real" goal. 2-0 win felt like having sex for the first time---all right, maybe not quite that good. Nothing like improving my team record to 1-5-1.

And just for effect- I had a LIVE premier league match on the tv at the same time. What the hell is the matter with me? I need to get a job and quick!!

I was pretty bummed that this site was down for two days as I was needing to share this valuable info.

Thanx for listening.

Well that's mighty fine news, Tony. May it be the first of many. BTW, if it's goals you wanted, you should've stayed out of the Italian league :)

I have lost all respect for Italian Soccer. Every foul gets a long haired whiny player crying over something.

Back to WE, try Barcalona. You won't have any trouble winning. Ronaldhino is like Bo Jackson of Tecmo Bowl. Okay not that dominant but he does some amazing things.

But you haven't lost respect for the EPL? The only difference I see is the hair. Hippie hater!

And congrats Tony! I'm such a dork I always save the first goal I score on each difficulty level.

Way to go, Tony!

I'm finally starting to get proficient at three-star, winning about 50 to 60 percent of my matches. A light just turned on earlier this week, and better command of the controls certainly has helped.

Lord, WE 8 has ruined team sports gaming for me. It's created a standard that only ESPN NHL 2K5 with Grog's All-Star edits can match for me. I just don't want to play any other team sports games right now because they can't compare to these two games.

For example, I rented MVP 2005 last night. Played it, enjoyed it, but the whole time I'm thinking, "I'd rather be playing WE." So even though MVP is a very solid, fun game, I won't buy it now. Why bother? It wouldn't get played due to the brilliance of WE.

Take care,
PK

I hear ya PK, this is the first single player franchise I've actually been hyped to play every night...I usually get bored of a baseball or football one pretty fast.

I'm having good luck on 3* too, I had to scratch and claw my way to a draw vs. Arsenal in my first Div 1 game (they're ranked like 3 in the rankings, and i'm 66), all the highlights were Arsenal ones at the end

However, against more equal competition I can dominate a lot more, I get a lot of variation in my games. Just a blast, especially when you're playing and realize how much like real life the game is.

Nice Goal Tony, I know it really feels good to get that first one in. I have been playing on 4 for a while now and im now starting to dominate on 4 so im thinking of just heading straight to 6 stars.

It sounds like I'm wasting my time in the Italian league--knowing nothing about "football" I picked it because I'm half Italian.

Once I get a few more games in I guess I'll try the Master League. Can someone rec. some teams to be? Is the Master League based on a real League and how does it work (in brief- not asking anyone to write a book).

I'm not sure I'll ever be a huge soccer fan but this game has gotten me to watch a little of the soccer channel. I also like how playing at the 15 min settings gives what appears to my ignorant mind as realistic stats yet it plays so quickly- unlike Madden/NCAA which always seem to take me 90 min no matter what I do.

you have 3 choices, the default no name players, a regular club side(so you can pick your fave team and players) or default squad with 3 free transfers,my personel fave.

Tony,

The ML does not mirror real life, especially if you haven't unlocked the custom ML ability. That allows you to select the teams you want in the league and where you want them.

There are 4 division 1 leagues and a single division 2 league. If you start with the unlocked ML then you have to start in Div 2. If you start custom ML you can start in Div 1 if you want.

The standard ML is a real mix of random teams so you will see Ital, Germ, Eng, etc all mixed in the same league.

Each Div 1 has 16 teams as opposed to the common 20 in real life. Div 2 has 8 teams.

My suggestion is to wait and unlock the custom ML and then you can set up your ML exactly how you want it.

Tony,
If you download the option file i've posted over at OS it has the 99999 WEN so that you can unlock everything you want, plus everything is completely edited. Check it out in the soccer forum if your interested.

WE did that for me with the basketball games, but the basketball games were bad to start with. I put in NBA Live a few days ago and it just seemed like an exercise in frustration after playing WE. I doubt this will happen with the baseball games though unless they turn out to be horrid. Additionally, I can feel the WE burnout coming... it's not there but it's imminent. I played so many matches of WE6, WE7 and now WE8 that the Deja Vu is starting to kick in. Especially since WE8 is very reminiscent of WE7 in a lot of ways. Plus, I rarely lose even on the highest difficulty. Still, I will have the baseball games in a few weeks and WE should be able to easily carry me through.
