WE8:i PS2 or XBOX??

Post by TheMightyPuck »

I have import pes4 for PC and want to buy the console version. I have a ps2 which I use soley for we7i. I'm wondering if this might be a good opportunity to pick up an xbox. I've looked for reviews to outline the differences between the xbox and ps2 versions but haven't gotten much. Anyone here have a good sense of the differences. I use the ps2 setup on the computer and (of course) with we7i. I would have to deal with learning curve on new controller. On the other hand I HATE slowdown. I love my option file. Any thoughts?

There are millions of good reasons to buy an Xbox, but this ain't one of them. The games look more or less the same. You couldn't tell them apart at 10 feet. Think Madden 2005 on both platforms.
The PS2 version is fine. Haven't seen any slowdown through a few games. I bought it because of the controller, although if they had been out of them I would have bought the Xbox version. Fortunately, there was 1 PS2 version left.

Everything is better on the Xbox.

I've been playing the PES4 PS2 version for the longest time and I can say the xbox controls are the difference maker. As for the graphics, what sports game we better on the Xbox. All the games are being dumbdowned for the PS2 so the Xbox users are getting the shaft.

One other thing is big personally for me with the XBOX version. I have the action replay and its just makes loading option files much easier instead of using the sharkport.

it ain't worth spending $150 for an xbox considering the graphics look like crap. He'd be wiser to just buy a copy for his PS2.

TJUng,
I missed the part where he didn't have the Xbox.

I think there are tons of reaons to get a box over a PS2 because of the strong sports line-up. But with a new Xbox coming I would just save your money. There are plenty of great option files that can converted to the PS2 version.

Where are you finding your option files, JRod?

I guess it is ps2. If I'm playing solo I pretty much game on the computer. The console version would be for multiplayer. I ran the xbox numbers and with tax, action replay, extra controller, copy of halo2 I'm past 3 bills.

edit: just got ps2 version. yay!!

There are none yet because there's a KEY in the option file and the converters haven't yet found it for the US Xbox version. Once they do, you'll be able to take any option file on any platform and convert to your system (xbox/ps2/pc)

I don't know enough about computers to even tackle finding the key and creating a program to convert option files.

But there's a few good sites for option files.

Jrod,

Are you saying we can have access to the pc option file converted for the xbox? the one that has all the real kits and better looking pitches?

I gotta agree with JRod. I played WE8 today on the Xbox and PS2 at my local EB. The Xbox version wins hands down. The PS2 version does suffer from framerate issues only in certain stadia and when using the wide camera and when kicking from the corners.

Just like JRod said it's the controls that sets the Xbox version apart. I've played WE6 and WE7 on the PS2 and the controls have always felt a little sluggish, not so with the Xbox. There's no delay in switching players and player animation.

I went ahead and picked up the Xbox verson today. I'm happy now! :D

TJung,

No but not because it has anything to do with an option file. An option file has only to do with the following
-Players appearences/abilities/names
-Team Names, Kits/Jerseys, Badges/Logos.
- League names.
- Team formations, team make-up

If you have PES4 or even WE8I PC you can edit everything because you are actually changing the game and not the option file.

I would actually get PES4 PC and not WE8:I PC. When you have a community "update/patch" they are actually changing the game file. But the structure of both games aren't the same. So a patch for PES4 PC will not work for WE8:I unless you manually replace these files. Believe me that's a lot of work. I would keep my PES4 modded DVD but I think the community for WE8:Liveware evolution will be larger. What I mean by that is there will be more people working with this new game that's due out in Japan at the end of the month.

And that's why I say to get PES4 over WE8:I only becuase the community making mods and patches is greater.

As for option files, we have to wait until someone can crack the Xbox save to work with they Option File editors. When that happens
you can change anything related to mostly names (teams/leagues/players), team/player graphics and ablities (There is already a converter to take Football Manager Stats and use them in WE8:I. Lastly once they crack the Xbox option file, you will be able to use any option file on any system and convert it over. So if someone in the UK creates a Scottish Premier League option file for PES4:PC and you want to play with that option file, these programs can convert that to a US friendly versions.

I hope all of this makes sense.

Well, played a bit of we8i last nite on the PS2. Freaking awesome. Against the AI played 4 ten minute games (3star--I suck what can I say). 1-0 win and 1-0 loss Chelsea against Levekusen. 1-0 win 1-1 tie Boca against River. The pesfan patch is awesome. The kits are great (except Boca is wrong since they still have Pepsi and they were sponsorless when I saw them against River last weekend). Played for a couple hours with my mate (hey it's fitbar so I can affect the pretentious Brit thing). High point was my destruction of Arsenal 3-0 with AC Milan. Anyway, my thoughts are:

Very different feel than we7i. Players make smarter runs. Control is a bit different and takes getting used to. Especially shooting. It seems like it matters more where you aim it but that could be perception on my part. The ball physics seem more realistic and aerial play benefits. You can head the ball for a pass easier (or so it seemed). Slowdown on PS2 is definitely present. Not a rare thing. I play wide camera angle so I suspect I'm seeing it at its worst. Annoying but something you get used to. Another annoying issue are the keepers. They stand there sometimes when they should be diving for the ball. I had one where the keeper didn't move at all and the ball ended up hitting the post and boucing tantalizingly across the face of goal. That said, this game is awesome. Highly recommended.

Puck:

When Boca played River two weeks ago -- there was a Superclassico on consecutive weekends due to the Torneo de Verano -- Max Bretos said something on FSW about those sponsorless shirts being some special design for the Torneo, honoring Boca's heritage. Not sure if its an anniversary year for the club or not.

Bottom line, I'm almost certain the Pepsi logo will be back on the horizontal yellow bar on Boca's shirts for the Clausura starting in two weeks.

Lord, I love Argentine footie. I must to know silly details like this! :)

Take care,

Jrod,

Wolf wrote over at soccergaming.com forums that he was going to adapt his patch for for Winning Eleven 8 PC version.

I've been playing the PC demo and while there really doesn't seem to be much of a difference gameplay wise between this version and the original Japanese version on the PS2, the high res graphics are just lovely.

Best wishes,

Doug

I got the Xbox version. I still say f*** you konami for not putting online in, but I wanted to sit on the couch and play on the big screen and see what the fuss about the "improved controller responsiveness" in the Xbox version. I like the analog control on the xbox version, I always stuck to the Dpad on the dual shock as the analog stick sucked. But it's good on the xbox version.

I traded in a bunch of old stuff (PS1 games, very old xbox games that I have not touched in forever) with a coupon that got me $3.00 extra credit per game traded in, so I didn't have to shell out any cash.

I play on the PC version (PES3... PES4 is on the way) with a PS2 dual shock, so the switch is taking time for me, but I suck on both so I can't really blame controller issues.

Seems this game sold like hotcakes up here in Toronto (or they hardly got any...) . I got the last one at the store (had to have him hold it for me for fear it would get sold as I'm driving down) as 5 or 6 other EBs I called had sold out by midday yesterday.

Thanks for the insight. Argentine footie is awesome. Especially Boca River.
