OT: A Movie you Like, but hate to admit

Post by Danimal »

I was talking to a friend last night and we got into talking movies, and he always tells me how he likes Judge Dread but doesn't like to admit it. So it got me thinking what movie or movies do you like, but hate to admit.

I've got two. First is the Kevin Costner classic The Postman, I'm not even sure why I like this movie, but I need to watch it completition everytime I stumble across it.

The other is Red Dawn, I have seen this movie so many times it isn't funny. But I haven't found anyone else who likes it.

Well I'm curious if anyone else has some.

Red Dawn is awesome. Nothing to be ashamed of there. My sixth grade classroom had a big field outside the window, and I kept waiting for the Soviets to parachute down onto it.

Avalon

Like Water for Chocolate (foreign)

Most of my friends can't sit through more than 10 minutes of these. I really like them.

Also I like "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "A River Runs Through It". My buddies can't stand these either.

Anything with Bruce Campbell. The cheesier the better. I bought and watched Bubba Ho Tep with my wife and some friends and it looked like they were in excruciating pain while sitting through it. I thought it was pretty funny. I mean how can you beat Elvis and a black JFK in a nursing home fighting a redneck mummy? :D

No doubt. I made a Wolverines joke the other night to the wife. Classic ridiculous movie.

Road House would have to be at the top of the list. Awful movie. I lose IQ points every time I see it. But it is like the Dukes of Hazard on Cinemax.

Just One of the Guys is one of those movies I inexplicably watch for 20-30 minutes when it's on Comedy Central.

Wild Things is another one. You tell someone you like that and they think it's because of Denise Richards's bosoms and all the sex. But then I say, "no, it's actually a good little noir movie, it's not about the nudity" right as Kevin Bacon appears with his fluffed wang.

Absolutely! The Postman is my all-time favorite bad movie, I love it. Although there are times when I cringe. But the book is even better (of course). As much as I like the ideas translated into the film, I think the major thematic point of the novel was actually dismissed! In any case, I have become a big fan of David Brin, and it started with that movie.

Jamie- Avalon is an outstanding movie! Those guys have no taste. Freid Green Tomatoes on the other hand. . . .

If I am flipping around and see Bloodsport on, it is hard to turn away.

Also, lately, HBO has been showing Seabiscuit around the clock and I have watched bits and pieces of that many, many times.

For the love of God Brando, stop it! You have brought back two of my most painful memories today (Barry Switzer being the other).

Yeah, that 'whatever it takes' line is classic.

Ready to Rumble.

I can't help it. I have to watch it all the way through.

The scene where they are scarfing juice dripping cheeseburgers on the back bumper of the juice dripping honeywagon is one of the greatest scenes in cinema.

Mr. Mom is a classic. No shame there. A River Runs Through It is also a fantastic movie. And how can ANYONE be shameful of liking a Bruce Campbell movie!?

You want shameful? How about:

Driving Miss Daisy
Steel Magnolias
The Joy Luck Club

Now that...is sad.

I forgot about this one, This is with the chick who pretends to be a guy and goes to another school for an article or some such. I vividly remember the last scene where here little brother rides off with a bike chick.

"On Golden Pond"

Yeah, it's one of the true tearjerker, sappy movies of all time. But Fonda and Hepburn give priceless performances in it.

Take care,

Don't feel to bad Bill, I purposely left one off of my list. A Walk to Remember with Mandy Moore. It makes me feel like someone cut off my nuts everytime I watch it.

1. Red Dawn is elevated from bad movie status by its cult following. I LOVE that movie. Unfortunately, I'm unable to ever say the phrase, "I remember" without flipping into full Patrick Swayze "I remember, I remember all of it" mode. Worst overacting ever!

2. Mr. Mom is NOT a bad movie :)

3. Guilty pleasures:

A Walk in the Clouds (man, I really want to hate this movie)

House Party (Just the first one. The sequels clearly diluted the director's vision)

Iron Eagle (In the preposterous premise Hall of Fame!)

Steel Magnolias (Just...so...sad...)

It Could Happen to You (shudder!)

While I thank you (and Bill) for bailing me out on Mr. Mom...

A Walk in the Clouds is that 'Bill and Ted sans one Go to Italy' movie, right? Where Keanu and that chick flap around like a butterfly?!?!?

Wow!

"Over the Top" with Sylvester Stallone. For whatever, reason I'll watch it straight through if it's on TBS, TNT, etc.

Wow!
Dude, it's set in Southern California, and just because you can't identify with the quiet, war-weary studly veteran played by Keanu Reeves doesn't mean you have to mock those of us who do :)

On the plus side, it does have Anthony Quinn.

You want a good laugh? Read the reader review at IMDB 8O
