Bush donates $10K of his own money to psunami relief???
what an embarassment this guy is. for someone who's net worth is somewhere between 20-50 Million, to give only 10 thousand is just insulting. that's like one of us giving a quarter. Me & my wife gave $50 ea., while not much, it's about the same of our net worth (.03%) as Bush's (.05% for 20 million). His ranch alone is worth near 10 million.
I'm sure those people over there are grateful for every penny they get, but isn't 10K a little "stingy" from a multi millionaire?

He was quoted as saying "I had no idea what to donate especially since I couldn't get in touch with JackB1 on the issue. In the future he will be my top advisor on such issues."
And are you pulling this out of your ass or is there some sort of link. My guess is Michael Moore is reporting this doozy.

James.....my point was that we both donated the same percent of our net worth and that same percent out of my money has a much bigger impact (negative) on my pocketbook, than the same percent of Bush's money.
Also if he is worth 50 mil, than it's only .02%.
The point is that 10K from someone with 50 million is a drop in the bucket.
I think he should have given more, that's all. He know's his donation is going to be scrutinized by the media, so you think he would care more about being an "axample" of "generousity" (spell?). Also, what about Mr Haliburton, VP Chaney, who is worth over 100 million?
p.s. no , this is a real story.....not made up by M Moore. It was on many news stations last night.

The point is 10K is a helluva lot more than your $50 regardless what he is worth. While you're at it, why don't take a few shots at Shaq, Peyton Manning, Tiger Woods, and Arod for being stingy too.JackB1 wrote:James.....my point was that we both donated the same percent of our net worth and that same percent out of my money has a much bigger impact (negative) on my pocketbook, than the same percent of Bush's money.

Damn, I remember back when donating 10 grand to a needy cause was a good thing.
Jack, you're a good dude and I've always enjoyed our banter, but you define why I despise most liberals.
I get the point.. $50 is alot more to us than $10K is to Bush. It was just odd the way you phrased it.JackB1 wrote:James.....my point was that we both donated the same percent of our net worth and that same percent out of my money has a much bigger impact (negative) on my pocketbook, than the same percent of Bush's money.

Actually Badgun...Tiger Woods is known as one of the cheapest and tightest athletes on the planet. He doesn't tip ANYONE. When he's in town for the made for TV golf matches at Sherwood Country Club, I know a few people that have served him or whatever and he stiffs them every time. There have been reports of the same thing on sites such as sportsbybrooks.com. As soon as one person complains publicly about the cheap athlete, then they come out of the woodworks. He's a stingy bastard apparently.
alright......#1 - I type fast cause I am at work, so I often mispell a lot of words. Tsunami......not psunami!!!
#2 - If I am out of line, I apologize, but you have to remember I am still "hurting" from the election and will have a hard time not criticising
anything Bush does. I dont like the man, I think he's evil and always will, so if I go overboard every now and then, just ignore me
p.s. my "re-thought" point is this:
I think he should have given more......he is the leader of the leading force in the world, as far as this relief effort goes and should be a shining example. Adding one or even 2 more zero's to that amount wouldn't have hurt him one bit. Most importantly....I am certainly grateful to anyone who gives ANYTHING out of their pocket towards helping needy victims and I probably shouldn't have said anything, but sometimes it's hard to keep quiet

This thread is making my head go "nucular."
I was a staunch critic of the slow U.S. government response to the tsunami crisis because Uncle Sam is willing to spend billions to wage war but only ponied up $15 million initially to help tsunami victims.
But I won't criticize any individual who donates funds, whether it's $10 or $10,000 or $10 million. Individual kindness always prevails in instances like this, at least I believe it does.
Again, I trust in the better angels of individual human nature. I don't trust in the better angels of government.
Take care,
PK

Just a friendly reminder....Badgun wrote: Jack, you're a good dude and I've always enjoyed our banter, but you define why I despise most liberals.
Jack's views are most definitely NOT the views of most liberals. Maybe they're the views of the stereotypical bogeyman that talk show hosts like to paint all liberals as. But they're not the views of the large majority of liberals.

Unfortunately, this is a no win for someone like Bush.
My personal philosophy is that donating should be done quietly and privately. It should be done with thought and reflection. And regardless of income or net worth it should be an amount that "stings" one just just enough to make one grateful that they weren't in the path of the tsunami.

I don't know. Susan Sarandon was part of a telethon for aid relief last night. No mention of Moore and Kerry (although just because there wasn't a press release, doesn't mean that they've not contributed).Badgun wrote:BTW, does anyone know how much John and Teresa Kerry donated? Or how much Michael Moore and Susan Sarandon donated? Just curious.

Meanwhile, NBC's 14 network-owned affiliate stations across the country are getting a jump on the effort with a telethon on Wednesday night, produced by New York's WNBC and UNICEF. Stars on the bill include Sarah Jessica Parker, Susan Sarandon, Julianne Moore, Debra Messing, Téa Leoni, Clay Aiken, Dustin Hoffman, and Alyssa Milano.
...
Echoing large donations to relief efforts from Sandra Bullock and Leonardo DiCaprio, Steven Spielberg and his family donated a combined $1.5 million to Save the Children, CARE, and Oxfam. ''Although they generally make their donations anonymously, they are making this public to further encourage others to make donations of any amount to these and other organizations aiding the relief effort,'' a family spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday.

You really believe this kind of $hit Jack? Or are you just hot for Janeane Garofalo? You think Kerry and his loving wife would have done that?
Jack, how much did your boy Kerry pitch in? Is his wife sending ketchup? How bout that pretty boy Edwards? You know what I don't care. It's none of my business. In for a penny in for a pound,it all spends and God bless anyone that donates.

Then post this $hit over at Air America's forums. Randi Rhodes is waiting for ya.
I didn't vote for Bush and I am over it. When you call Bush evil you are calling the people that voted for him the same. That's over half of voting Americans. Politics have f#cked your brain up.

Was Bush able to locate Sri Lanka on the map? I can imagine the exchange:
"Mr. President, there was a tsunami in the Indian Ocean."
"A what?"
"A tsunami, sir. A tidal wave."
"Like in The Day After Tomorrow"
"Sort of, sir."
"Karl told me that movie was a bunch of liberal propaganda. Are you sure it isn't some Democratic CSI trick?"
"You mean CGI? No sir, the tsu, er, tidal wave has devastated Sri Lanka and Indonesia."
"What are Shree Lonk-a and Indonesia doing in the Indian Ocean?"
"I'm not sure I follow, Mr. President?"
"Shouldn't India be in the Indian Ocean? Why would they call it the Indian Ocean if there were other countries in it? That'd be like saying Lake Michigan was in Illinois."
[Brief pause] "Mr. Vice President, there was a tsunami in the Indian Ocean."
In all seriousness, I think it's good that the President to make a personal contribution. I'm not going to argue over how much, that's just not right.[/i]

I think JackB is merely stating that its a pattern in Bush's life that makes the a very lowball number.
Here's what I will criticize, where are those Christian who during the election said they cared about morals and values. The should be on the top of every donation list not just with thousands or even millions. If they can turn out to vote and change the direction of this country where are they now.
I guess I forget its not about being Christ-like its about power.
I still waiting for the Evangelicals to donate millions.
