GTA: San Andreas - Interest/Impressions Thread...
As a recent member of the PS2 gang again, I have stated to gain interest in this game. I have it pre-ordered and for the last couple of days have been getting really excited for it's release. I payed the hell out of GTA III but never played any of Vice City. I mean, I watched friends play it and saw quite a bit of it, but never did play it myself. Maybe that's why I am getting so pumped for this new one.
Anway, it sounds as if my local EB will be geting it around mid-day tomorrow. I think I have read soem interest in this game from others on here so I wanted to see just how many were planning on picking this up and then hear everyones initial impression once they do.
If you have not, check out the 'Stunt Jump' movies over at IGN. They are pretty cool.
It's interesting how they have not let ANY (that I can find) gameplay movies out before the games release. Keeping things under lock & key I guess. The trailers look pretty interesting though (especially the end of the newest one with the guy parachuting from the plane).
So who's picking this up this week??? And what 'new' things are you most excited about?

I'm very excited for this one. Hopefully I'll be getting it tomorrow as well, but my EB is standing firm on Tuesday noonish time.
I'm most excited about the Las Venturas area of the game. This could possibly turn out to be the best design in a game ever IMO. That is if they pull it off as well as I'm hoping.

I've always said that Grand Theft Auto III (and to a lesser extent, its sequel Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) was one of the few examples of gaming genius we've had in the last ten years. However, the consensus among most people (myself included) was that after playing through III and then getting about halfway through Vice City the average player was done with it all. I have faith that Rockstar can inject some freshness in the game. Even if they can't, it's definitely a game I'm going to get a look at. Any specials on it this week?

I'm not worried about my TRU getting it in because I was able to pickup GTA and Vice City as part of the deal in the past. I'm just worried that there won't be much else to choose from after this weekend. Last year I picked up some new releases on Wednesday, but everything else was pretty cleaned out.

Who reviewed it, the weekend manager or the stock boy? Maybe he/she should post it to the internet, so we can all read it...cdastros wrote:gamestop reviewed the game and gave it a 9.6
They called the game the best in the series.

We miss you in the college discussion threads. Why the silent treatment.
Since Foghorn Longhorn was to lazy to link.... Not that he had the right company to begin with.

Well, after about an hour and a half of play here are a few impressions...
First, the good:
-Voice acting is top notch. Absolutely great job.
-Graphics are good. A step up from the previous games. Same overall look, just a bit more detail and cleaner.
-Control is the same. Seems no different. Fans of the series should feel right at home.
-The overall look and style is just awesome. The theme is perfect for this game (obviously) and the way it is recreated so far is just perfect.
-Targeting system seems improved.
-Missions so far have been fun and diverse. I love riding a bicycle.
Now for the not so good:
-Please dear god tell me there is a way to make the on-screen map bigger or have it enlarge by the press of a button. It is WAY too small. If I have to press pause everytime I want to see the map in detail or larger, I will be quite frustrated. Even the map in the menu system is confusing. I hope I get used to this.
-Controls will take me a bit of getting used to since it has been quite a while since I have played the series.
Overall, those are about the only things I can really comment on. The game, to me, seems right where it should be for a third PS2 title. It seems to have all the right things to keep up the namesake. There really is not a whole lot to say. If you are a fan of the series, I don’t think you can go wrong. It seems like it will offer a ton of diverse and fun missions with a ton of side stuff included. There is almost too much to do here.
I can answer question if anyone has any…

I am also very impressed. Lots of customization (food, clothes, tattoos). I really never thought the series could get more in-depth and detailed than Vice City, but it really did here. There is so much to do and see, it is completely ridiculous.
The story is awesome, but very Boyz in Da Hood or Menace II Society, so maybe it won't be for everyone. Also, the series has gradually gotten grittier and more adult, but this one really takes the cake. This is a VERY adult game, so watch it around the kiddies.
I was pretty much an average GTA fan (finished III, got around halfway through VC) and I am very pleased so far. The main thing that impresses is the epic scope of the game, and I am just getting started.

Just got done playing for 2 hours.
I did 4 missions.
I got me a fro and beard.
I browsed the Tattoo parlor.
I shot some hoops.
I banged a prostitute and of course smacked her with a shovel and got my money back.
I had some pizza.
I had a salad.
I rode some bikes.
I really enjoyed some of the old school Eazy E, Ice Cube, Helmet, GnR.
I'm liking this game better than Vice City so far. The story seems to grab you much quicker this time. The voice acting is top notch. The graphics are improved and I love the camera being assigned to the right analog stick. Now if only the left analog stick was forward/back and strafe left/right.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
