Tony Hawk: American Wasteland
This post was from THUG2 a year ago...updated below BD's post about what he wanted in the NEXT TH game.
--------------------------------------------
Thug 2 is one badass game. They keep upping the ante when it comes to skating games and this one is no different. THUG1 was pretty good but I felt it wasn't very polished...the whole story mode thing. This one, damn...they really do make you do a lot of crap besides skating and it's damn fun. It breaks up the monotany and the story is actually entertaining.
I turned it on after I finished wiping the floor with the rest of ya in CMR2005 and I played it for 4 hours straight...it's now 12:30am and I need to crash but I can't wait to get home from work tomorrow so I can pop THUG2 back in and play some more. I highly recommend it after 4 hours worth of gameplay (subject to change of course, but it's awesome so far).

Tony Hawk games are like the game Civilization and crack. Once you start you lose track of time especially the old school mode coming back where you have to pull off different tasks off in 2 minutes. I was not a fan of last years story mode.
Keep us updated. Some of the sites have been giving it mediocre score but I think alot of that is due to there is only so much you can do with a skateboarding game year after year. This is one title that could use a 2 year gap and online for XBL. I hope to get it by then end of the week.

Well your wish was Tony Hawk's command almost a year to the day. Tony Hawk American Wasteland is pretty damn sweet. They made it more in the meld of GTA in that there is just one huge city and you can free roam all you want. Take on challenges or tourneys as you move through the city. There isn't one way to do the game and that is pretty damn good for a TH game. And it's online too! I didn't even venture online last night because Live was down so I can't really speak on it, but the rest of the game was pure Tony Hawk goodness.bdoughty wrote:Keep us updated. The graphics seem to have been polished up a bit and the control is as sweet as ever. Hopefully this one lasts a little longer than THUG2 did. I didn't like all of the stupid crap they had you do in that game. This game has gone back to the TH roots and made it all about skating (and biking this year).

Well that sucks, I mainly got it it because they added the ability to ski. I get bored with extreme games but they are amusing for a couple days. That is why Game Rental companies rule...dbdynsty25 wrote:On Tour is garbage. They have completely ruined a pretty damn fun game. SSX3 was sweet...On Tour just went into the crapper.

That is true...but I popped mine back into the Gamerang envelope a whole 2 hours after I opened it. I just couldn't take it. Maybe you'll dig it...someone has to.bdoughty wrote:Well that sucks, I mainly got it it because they added the ability to ski. I get bored with extreme games but they are amusing for a couple days. As for the bump...I remembered I started the THUG2 thread back in the day and no one even responded (except you)...so it was an easy thread to change. And when I read your response, it's all the stuff that they added this year. It's kinda funny.

Yeah that's what I was going to do, but I figured it wouldn't look THAT much better since it's probably just a port. I might as well use it as a bridge to get to the 360 release. Plus, I'm sure there will be plenty of other games that will be taking up my time once it's released.injunwal wrote:Thanks for the impressions. The TH games always become major time stealers for me. Once I start I cannot shut them off. I look forward to getting American Wasteland but am trying to holdout for the 360 version

I haven't played the console version but I was able to check out the PSP version of On Tour. I don't like it and I'm glad I didn't buy it.dbdynsty25 wrote:On Tour is garbage. They have completely ruined a pretty damn fun game. SSX3 was sweet...On Tour just went into the crapper.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Yeah...I read that it's virtually the same, so I agree with ya...I'm glad I didn't buy it either. I was struggling to keep playing to give it a legitimate chance. After 2 hours, I figured I had tortured myself enough.ScoopBrady wrote:I haven't played the console version but I was able to check out the PSP version of On Tour. My 12 year old loves all things Tony Hawk when it comes to games. I really, REALLY enjoyed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on the DC. Didn't care too much for THUG, but enjoyed the classic mode on THUG 2.
Gotta tell ya, I am loving me some THAW. Game is pure addiction and just overall a lot of fun.
If you enjoy the THPS games, you won't be disappointed.

Yeah, the THUG games were kind of annoying after lengthy playtime...all of the stupid sh*t you had to do. THAW definitely went back to the old school in terms of the skating mechanics and all that, while adding a little GTA flavor.Boom wrote:Gotta tell ya, I am loving me some THAW.
