OT: Full Spectrum Warrior trailer

Boys:

I posted earlier in here about Full Spectrum Warrior, the U.S. Army infantry training game that THQ is bringing to the PC and Xbox in early 2004.

Gametrailers.com -- a great site, by the way -- has posted a 70 MB trailer of this game featuring one of the developers talking about all the functions and features. Awesome stuff.

If you´re a Ghost Recon fan and have broadband and about 10 minutes, check out this trailer at gametrailers.com. You´ll see a link on the home page.

I can´t wait for this game.

Take care,

PK,
I already started a thread with this link a few threads down. Mine isn´t as eloquent as yours but I was just too damn overjoyed (as evidenced by the material in my post) after seeing this trailer. 55 views, 0 replies. I guess we´re the only 2 people on this board excited about this one.

Make that three !!!

Um...two words: Holy F**k !!!!

I never cared too much for GR´s one player mode. It was cool enough to try and open up weapons and maps, ect, but this game takes it to a whole other level !!! This game will be insane. I wonder if it is going to be LIVE ´friendly´ ???

I´m pretty excited about Full Spectrum Warrior after viewing the trailer. We already know that I suck at these games by myself. I´m sure my command decisions will cost many people their lives ...

And Spooky, the studio´s website said it would be Live enabled.

I don´t know about anyone else, but I have some conceptual difficulties with an Army training simulator being marketed as a game.

Maybe it´s just me, but this seems to be pushing a definition of ´entertainment´ that I´m not overly keen on buying in to.

Dave:

Not sure what you mean. What separates FSW from Ghost Recon, for example? That´s supposed to be somewhat of a sim of near-future squad combat.

FSW is a simulator, for sure. But I know of drivers new to Formula One who have trained by using PC F1 sims to get a feel for the courses before they actually go to the circuits their rookie season.

Are you uncomfortable with the simulation of combat? Or just selling a pure simulator, period?

Just curious, mate. I don´t agree or disagree -- just curious.

Paul

I´ve not downloaded the trailer, so I can´t comment on what it looks like, but the description of an FPS compiled with the assistance of the US army does make it sound like overtly linking killing with entertainment.

I don´t play FPS´s at all, other than an occasional blast on Halo - my interests are primarily sports and high-level strategy type things (Civ 3 etc).

Maybe I´ve misread what this is about, but it still leaves a slight taste in my mouth.

Just my 5 pence (sterling) worth.

HOLY F$&K!

This looks incredible. The gameplay mechanics are amazing, and the environment in the trailer is gorgeous.

If they pull this game off and get some nicely designed levels in... this will be insanely good.
Understood and respected, mate.
Just call me a Natural Born Killer. I can´t wait for this game!

Seriously, I always take the tact that games are an escape from reality. They let me do things impossible in my real life, such as play in the NFL, drive 230 mph at Indianapolis and storm through close combat in some Middle Eastern village, for example.

PK, thanks for the heads-up. I watched the trailer and couldn´t believe how cool this game looked -- even Mrs. Brando was impressed when she peeked in to see what I was watching.

I like that the game seems more tactical than action-based. Doesn´t appear you can run around like Rambo without a jockstrap and spray fire everywhere.

I can understand where Dave is coming from -- when Medal of Honor: Frontline came out, I had some reservations about the idea of D-Day being a game. But I think these things are done in good taste. And my father, a vet of two wars, loves stuff like this, so I don´t think it´s disrespectful to anyone.

Another interesting wrinkle -- if this is done with the help of the U.S. Army, are we seeing the evolution toward The Last Starfighter/Enders´s Game? Will our future generals come from the ranks of video game players? (Not being serious, of course, but an interesting concept).
