saw the Village yesterday. I think the problem is that Shamaylan expects his audience to understand all his extrememly subtle hints as to what's going on to appreciate the movie. He doesn't explain enough. Like what caused all these "elders" to decide to have there own little village and not want to go out into the real world anymore? He should have given more background on that. The ending was really non-climactic. It was just like......they decided to keep their little "fake world" going and that's it.
What about all the murders that happened? Were they all done by that
retarded guy? Why was he chasing her in the woods? To kill her or scare her from trying to leave?
I thought it was a great, unique idea that wasn't developed enough for the audience to appreciate it. That's why the reviews are at 50%. You either get it or you don't and see the movie as dumb.

I don't think there were any murders. They made up the stories about the creatures to keep everyone scared and not wanting to breach the border. There was a statement that there had been a truce between the village and the creatures for many many years. I also think Noah was just trying to regain what he had lost with Ivy by continuing their "games". I don't believe he was trying to harm her.
I don't read reviews of movies anymore because I never seem to agree with them. I like what I like. I really enjoy M's movies. They are the modern equivalent of Rod Serling's Twilight Zones to me.

Preach it! I totally I agree. I feel very out of step with reviewers and the general populace as of late. I'm still scratching my head over all the unbridled adoration of Spidey 2.Granatofan wrote: I don't read reviews of movies anymore because I never seem to agree with them. I like what I like.
