Are glithces patchable on Xbox?
Wit all of this talk about slowdown, dropped passes, pinball tips..etc, is it possible to fix the problems with a patch via Xbox Live? I have seen all of these, but it is the slowdown that makes the top of my irritation list. Do you think a patch could fix it?
Yes and no. It is possible to fix certain issues with patches but those are issues mainly outside of the core engine.
Fixing an issue like slowdown isn't so simple as the bottlenecks may require extensive code changes and re-writes which only open the door to more problems potentially.
Same goes with pinball tips
Now the catching issues theoretically could be patched but it depends on what is causing it. If it's a simple problem then it could easily be fixed such as the ratings are too low...but it could be more complex as it could be due to the triggering of the actual catch animations themselves which would be a much harder problem to solve and once again may be more core to the way the entire animation system works.
The ESPN Games have been patched before through Xbox Live along with other Xbox games but it's mainly been to address relatively minor issues. Simple tweaks. (Although the Ninja Gaiden update coming up appears fairly substantial) Anything is possible but the more sophisticated the problem, the less likely it is to be patched. More to the point, I'm not sure EA even views the Xbox market as important enough to satisfy. Not that they don't get a good number of sales on the platform, but the Ps2 is their bread and butter market.

I think it's possible but in most cases I would say difficult and in all cases I would say that it was highly unlikely we would see one. There is no way for anyone but a developer to truly answer this. Way too many variables.

MVP baseball is a great example. There have been dozens of people in the community trying to figure out a way to apply the PC lefty bug fix to a modded Xbox and so far nobody has been successful. And this bug was so bad, and so obvious, that I tend to think even EA would have fixed on the Xbox if it were possible.
