Anybody hit the wall videogame wise?
The last time I touched a PS2 controller was a couple weeks ago for a brief game of WE 6 with my favorite (our Master League). Besides that I haven't touched a controller since April, at college to play some WE. As I stated it's the only game I own.
I honestly think I'm finished with videogames. I don't know what it is. I'd rather play poker, go to football sites and chat in NFL Forums, go to movies/watch DVDs, or watch TV than play videogames. I would even rather read videogame sites than play them. NCAA Football 2005 comes out in 19 days and I'm not the least bit excited. Usually it is a game I dream about.
I really want to get the spark yet I can't. This happen to anybody?

Sure. It happened to me in 1991. I sold my 8-bit NES and all my games to raise money for our wedding reception -- yes, times were quite, quite tight back then -- and didn't return to the hobby until 1997.
Nothing to feel ashamed about, Gators. You're evolving as a person. You may return to games; you may not. You're not bound to gaming as a hobby. Christ, I used to run 50-70 miles per week; now I'm lucky if I run 50 miles per year.
Either way, you're always welcome to post and hang here. You're one of the good guys, so don't stray even if you stop gaming.
Take care,
PK

It will come back one day. Remember long ago, when you were fighting a holy war with the folks about bringing the PS2 to school? I'm pretty sure I said (if not in these words) to throw that PS2 in the s*** can and have fun at college. I'm glad to hear you are doing well.FloridaGators wrote:The last time I touched a PS2 controller was a couple weeks ago for a brief game of WE 6 with my favorite (our Master League). I guess my situation is in a normal time for a dead period. I'm an avid football fan so right now there was never much playing of videogames. I usually put up the old titles and just wait a month or two for the new ones. It's just that back in April and May it was dead, too.
Probably come school time we'll be having ESPN football tournaments and such. Hopefully I'll get it back. Videogames are definitely a hobby, a way for me to relax and have some fun with friends.

For me personally, a lot has to do with the season we're in. It's been absolutely gorgeous here in the midwest of late. I'd much rather be playing with my kids at the park, going to a baseball game, hanging out at the pool, chatting it up with the neighbors, etc. My video game fever really kicks in again once summer time turns the corner into fall and pre-season football starts.
I hardly played any videogames in 5 years of college. I played NES with my brothers when I would come home for weekends or breaks, and there was one year where me and my roommates had an NES with track and field and tetris and we did play some when we had the time. I really did not get back into them until I was out on my own making money. For a while I was buying anything and everything. I could afford to, had the time, enjoyed the hobby, and was interested in the industry itself. Then I got married, got more serious about my career, started trying to have a family and priorities changed. I learned to cut back and make better use of my time. I probably talk about them more than play them. Sometimes I will go for weeks without playing a console game, however, I usually play a little something on the PC (Starcraft, Grand Prix Legends, or Tiger Woods) just to let off some steam. It's a managable hobby that does not take away from my family and friends. In fact, with online gaming like XBL I have managed to stay closer to a few friends that I might have lost contact with otherwise as they moved around the US. No need to drop the hobby altogether, just get out, enjoy college, and game if and when you feel like it.
My overall interest in videogaming has waned over the years, but at the same time, it's become more focused in the few games that really hold my interest. I can tell within 2 minutes whether I'm going to get into a game or not.
Right now I play TOCA 2 and Links 2004 on the XBox, WE6-IE and WoO Sprint Cars on the PS2, TW 2004, TOCA 2, GPL, NASCAR 2003, and a little F1 99-2002 Challenge (and a couple of its mods) on the PC.
I don't even touch non-sports games on any machine. I'll watch my boys play and adventure of FPS for a while, but I don't enjoy playing them myself.
Having said this; I still enjoy following the news on video and computer games.

I can understand. I just started back to night school. Working full time, going to class 2 nights a week until 10pm, and quality time w/ the wife and kid has taken away time from playing video games. Last night was the first time I turned on the Xbox in 10 days. 6 months ago I was the opposite. I would play 10 days in a row and may miss one. I do still enjoy my hobby and I am excited about NCAA Football 2005 next month, but my priorities have changed. Exploer your other interest and enjoy all of them, including video games.

I think it happens to us all at one point or another. Usually around your age too. If I was your age right now I bet the only time I'd play videogames is multiplayer sessions with friends. You'll come back to it in time. At your age there's so much more to do than sit around playing videogames. I basically stopped in the middle of the Genesis' life cycle and got back into it when the PS1 released.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

I also think it has something to do with the lifecycle of consoles. The bottom line is that we've seen all the real innovation we're going to see by 3 years into a consoles cycle, with a full 2 years or more before the next leap in graphics, gameplay etc.
I'd be willing to bet that once the PS3, Xbox Next, etc. marketing gets in full swing and you see NCAA 2007 running in all its glory you'll be back.
