I have been copying lots of CD's to my xbox to use for custom soundtracks and was wondering how much room there is on the
hard drive? Is there a way to tell how much room is left also?
XBox Hard Drive - How much can it hold?

some xboxes have 10GB HD, some have 8GB HD.
The ones that have 10GB might be setup so that you can only use 8GB, unless you change the bios... I don't know.
I've read that there are around 500,000 blocks of memory on the 8GB disk, around 610000 blocks of memory on the 10GB disk.
Apparently there is around 62.5 memory blocks/megabyte.
The above info is all pulled from various places on the net. I cannot vouch for the validity of it all...

Changing the BIOS takes you down the road of modding your Xbox, something with which I am not that familiar. I think if you google "xbox mods" or something you'll find out.

Some interesting facts about the Xbox hard drive:
All Xbox games use the HD for caching.
On a factory standard Xbox drive, there are 5 partitions.
Partition C is 500 MB. It is the boot partition and is exclusively reserved for the dashboard.
Partitions X, Y, and Z are each 750 MB. They are exclusively reserved for game data caching for the 3 most recently played games.
Partition E takes up the remainder of the physical hard disk drive and is used for soundtracks, game expansion packs, downloads, and saved game data.

Interestingly, in a recent development, you can now backup and play games from a PS2 hard drive using the network adapter. Of course, you would want to use a bigger hard drive than the standard PS2 one, but this is even more easily installed than with the Xbox. People with ps2s that have bad lasers may find this a very useful development.
