Galley,

I see you are from Greenville, SC. I will be down there on business in June. Can you recommend any golf courses? We are looking to play on a Sunday afternoon. The only course I have played in the area is Verdae Greens. I would like to get the most bang for the buck and I´d like to keep the greens fees and cart under $75, if possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Leebo,
I don´t know about Greenville but there´s some good courses west of town, if you are willing to drive out this way. I think the best course overall in Greenville is the Chanticleer couse at Greenville Country Club, but I don´t think it´s open to the public.

The Walker Course at Clemson is fairly nice, it´s about 25 miles or so from downtown Greenville. Green fees are $28 on weekdays and $36 on weekends. Carts are $11. For info, call 864-656-0236.

Across the border in Georgia, there´s Cateechee, which has green fee of $50 on weekdays (cart included) and $60 on the weekends. Call 706-856-4653.
I personally like Bonnie Brae. It´s usually pretty reasonable, and is just a few miles from Greenville. Carolina Springs is nice, but tough (at least for me). Donaldson is a "hacker" course. Cross Winds is a brutal par 3 course. That´s the only ones I have played.

LOL. I love to walk, but most places make you rent a cart around here on weekends and holidays. I just assumed it is the same in SC.

[ This message was edited by: Leebo33 on 11-05-2003 19:13 ]

I never understood the logic of forcing people to take carts. Do they really believe that cart-golf speeds up play? Or is it just a reason to make you pay extra money?

It usually does NOT speed up play, especially if the "carts-stay-on-path" rule is in effect.

There is a course here in Ottawa that makes you take a cart. I offered to pay the full fee including the cart, but I wanted to walk not take the cart. They said no. I refuse to play there.
