OT: Your impressions of Morrowind

Post by pk500 »

Boys:

I´m not an RPG player at all, but I rented Morrowind about six months ago and was intrigued and enjoyed the rental. Barely scratched the surface of the game, but it was interesting.

Now Morrowind is part of the Xbox Platinum Hits line at $19.99. Is it a good game long-term? A time sucker only, or is there method to the open-ended madness of the game?

Impressions from hardcore RPGers and the curious like me who have played the game are appreciated.

Thanks,
PK

PK I am not a RPG player at all, but I loved the game, and think it´s well worth the 19.99
Very cool. Thanks for the tip.

My only fear is the time involved to play the game. Between work (heavy race season coming up) and family this summer, my time will be lacking. Still, I may give it a whirl for $20. The open-ended nature of the game was a big attraction. Seemed like I could do almost anything I wanted at any time.

Thanks,
It´s definitely worth $20. I loved the game while I had it. I would still have it now except I kept hearing horror stories about the "dirty disc" error messing up the saves. I didn´t look forward to logging a ton of hours in the game only to lose my progress and have to start over. So I ended up trading it off while I could still get some good money for it. At $20 I´ll probably pick it up again and do some more research on the error to see if there is a way around it.

pk,

Get it! Even on limited time, you´ll have a blast. It´s my favorite RPG of all-time, and one of the few that I´ve actually "finished."

I am way too intimidated by this game. Too much to do. Not enough time. It is cool looking though.

Keep in mind that if you have a PC, the PC version has an additional expansion module out for it now (Tribunal) and another on the way (Bloodmoon, or something to that effect.). Enjoy!

That´s spooky..I´ve just bought a new PC and Morrowind came as part of the software bundle with the graphics card. It sitting on my desk waiting to see if I could be bothered installing it, when this thread appeared...

Wow. And looking across the street I just saw a black cat walk under a ladder, that held a I guy mounting a mirror (yeah, he fell alright).
Coincidence?
LOL. Me too. I haven´t played any RPGs besides FFX (which I enjoyed very much), but Knights of the Old Republic really intrigues me for some reason. If it wasn´t for that game coming out (hopefully) in July and the current backlog of games I have already, I would probably give Morrowind a try.

Morrowind at 19.99 is a steal. I bought Morrowind when it came out and still think that it has given me the most bang for my buck ever. I have put more than 60 hours into the game since I bought it. That´s less than a buck an hour. Hell, I still have the game and was still tempted to pick it up for 20 bucks just because the deal is so good.

Big Damn Todd! Great to see you in here, man. You´re welcome any time.

Thanks for the impressions on Morrowind. It´s climbing my potential purchase list. A first for me -- an RPG!

Rob & bdt92:

Did either of you guys run into the dirty disc errors and messed up saves that I´ve heard about? I was so wanting to invest some time in Morrowind but it seemed like every forum I read about the game had people saying it was giving those errors. That just scared me away. If they were just a very vocal minority I think I might want to start playing again. Thanks in advance for any insight.

DJ,

I had no technical problems at all with the game. I was running it on a machine which was probably too modest for the System Requirements, but it was still playable. And I had no crashes, bugs or errors whatsoever. Remarkable, really.

pk, If you go back to when MW first game out, I posted an elaborate message on the SR board about the game...describing some dramatic s*** that happened. It´ll help sell you on it, I think

Mix,
I´ve put in well over 60 hours on the Xbox version and never had it crash nor did I experience the dreaded DD errors.

Thanks for the response guys. I guess I need to pick it back up. Now the question is PC or Xbox. It would definitely look and run better on my PC (2.53Ghz P4, GeForce 4, 512MB RAM) and I´d have the options of getting the add-ons but I do enjoy relaxing on the couch in front of the Xbox.
