Cincy,
If you are pretty persistant, you can get it fixed for free. I know several people that were told to send the Xbox and $100 in and they would fix it, but they used the Thompson drive excuse and they eventually got it fixed for free...warranty or no warranty.
These Thompson drives Xboxs were inferior machines to begin with and Microsoft knows it. You may have to talk to several different customer service reps, but keep calling, you will eventually get one that will fix it for you for free.
This is not a myth, I've seen guys at other boards mention it as well as I personally know 3 people that got theirs replaced for free and they had no warranty.

but i would like clarification as im in the mood to just go buy a halo box and start over
but if i cant recover my account.things will get a bit pricey
thanks for any info
You can definitely recover your account and it is done in just a few minutes. I have 2 Xboxs and when I bought the new one, I wanted to transfer the Xbox Live account over to that one. Easy as pie. Just hook up your new Xbox to your internet connection and go into your account. Choose account recovery and you will have to input some info, but within a few minutes, you will be golden. I can verify it because I did it.

Yea db, you can do it that way, but I called Microsoft and the rep I talked to said that was exactly what the account recovery feature was for. I don't recall exactly how long it took, but it was a lot quicker than the initial Xbox Live setup. If I remember right, it asks you for your gamertag and password or maybe it just asks for your gamertag and you have to verify some information, but it only took a few minutes.dbdynsty25 wrote:I didn't know there was an 'account recovery' feature on the Xbox. I was just telling you the way I know how to do it. I've taken my memory card with my account info on it to a buddy's house and we've played from separate accounts instead of xxxxguest like you see sometimes online.
