Toca Sunday Drivers Series

Post by webdanzer »

Okay, I'll host the first official 'bad drivers' Toca session this evening at 11pm eastern, and run for like an hour, an hour and a half.

5 lappers, only the first few series in the game.

The session will be only for those who aren't among the regular leaders. Please state your interest here.

I can usually host 7, so I'll send invites to any who reply here if they are on and I have room.

I'd be up for that, although I don't mind getting smoked by the studs either.

I'm in. I would suggest Formula Fords, GT Lights, and SEAT Supercopa if you have them. Some of the same tracks so you get the familiarity, but since they are different cars, requires completely different braking points, etc. Plus, those seem to be the favorites right now anyway (and they are fun). Maybe throw in an oval series if you have the time. Thanks for setting it up web.

lol. He would probably still finnish in the top 3.
Cmon Terry, let us scrubs have some fun :)
Why don't you organize an "Elite" Drivers session
for +1500's. Just an idea. I love racing with the
whole SR crew, but once in a while it might be
fun to split up like this.

I gotta say... doing 25-lap races at Texas Speedway and Pike's Peak Raceway back-to-back in Ford F-150 Lightning trucks is a hell of a lot of fun. Just had to throw that in.

Thanks guys. We have more than I can handle, so I'll invite those I see on in order of response.

We don't have a 'bad driver' with a super connection, do we?

I can host 7 as well so if there are too many we can split into different rooms I guess. I have up to the Rally Cars unlocked.

I'll make a room and go longer races 10-15 laps at just one track.

Are any "Sunday Driver" hosts willing to start at 10 or 10:30 EDT? 11 is a little late for those of us waking at 6:30AM!

Yeah, that was fun! Seems the Sunday Drivers are a quiet bunch, though!

:)

I'll make it a regular wednesday event, shooting for the 10:30 time so it's a little easier for everyone.

A few comments:

I still hit far too many people. Sorry guys.

I think the grid starts setup by 'reverse of last finish' seemed to prevent a lot of the first corner clusterf*cks. I really only saw that happen once, on surfers.

It was nice to actually have a car in front of me and a car behind me for the large majority of the race. I didn't feel like I was on the track alone!

Slimer gets fantastic starts.

One late race when we were joined by 'Ringer' BBReBozo, I actually had the great feeling of actually gaining on the leader bit by bit through the last 2 laps or so, by taking corners well. (Of course he could have just been taking it easy since he knew he had the win.) I still blew it when I tried to be too aggressive when my time was running out.

Jack, sorry man. I nailed you bad that last race. :(

Anyway, I'll let everyone know what series and tracks we'll be running in advance of next week's game, so we can practice if we want. That can only make for cleaner racing.

Good Racing!

Wish I could have made it last night. My son hasn't been feeling well as of late, so I took it upon myself to go to bed early in the event he would wake up during the night. Sure enough, 1am he's whining. Just enough to throw my sleep schedule out of whack.

Anyways, this definitely sounds like something I'd be interested in participating on a weekly basis. I wonder however if we should make some sort of regulations though. Perhaps once you acheive a rating above a certain number...say 1500 or 1550, you're delegated to race with the big boys. That way, it gives you incentive to race competitively with the Sunday drivers in hopes of being promoted. Kinda like minor league baseball with A, AA, and AAA. Anyways, just a thought.

I don't think I want to tie it to rankings, Dan, since they really don't necessarily tell what kind of a driver you are...just how you did against those you have previously raced against.

I'm over 1500 now, yet I still crash into people far too much, and lose it on corners.

I think you'll know it's time to 'graduate' when you are no longer cornholing folks, and are constantly finishing in the top of the pack.

I see your point. It would be rather disparaging however to see someone who's competitive enough to race with the top tier racers stay with the Sunday Drivers just to better their ratings. If it truly was a matter of failing to be able to run a clean race, overshooting corners, etc much like you mentioned then that's a different story. In any case, people seem honest enough to make their own skill determination, so I doubt we need to worry about that.

I can't really think of a good way to determine when it is time to move out of the Sunday driver's league. Web and were winning most of the races, but I think we both know how we would fare against the top drivers here. Possibly, if you are consistently causing people to not finish due to the 30 second rule, it is time for you to move on. I had 1 or 2 big wins, but they were at long tracks with a high casualty rates (Bathurst and Surfer's), and they were 5 lappers. My main interest is being able to race against Webdanzer, he and I have very comaprable skills in racing games, we have had close battles in MotoGP1, 2, and now RD2.

Web,

I was pretty amazed at my starts as well. I didn't do anything different than my usual start, but it seemed like I was rocketing into the lead at every race. It definitely helps to make it through the first turn in the lead. When I make those same starts in the single player game, the computer leaves me in the dust every time.
