OT: Worst song ever...
What's sad is I actually enjoyed some of these songs back in the day. Obviously, I guess I'm not a great judge of music.
For an instance, I don't think Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" should be on the list...what do I know...

William Shatner's renditions of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Mr. Tambourine Man" are the most hideous songs I've ever heard.
And yes, they do exist. I have them on my MP3 player. So bad they're really, really funny even though the Surgeon General has issued a warning that listening to them can cause hearing loss and brain damage.
Take care,
PK

We Built This City is what they play when you go to Hell.
Seriously, though, in terms of seriously awful music being made by a band that was once meaningful, Starship takes the cake. Talk about one of the all-time great acts of artistic h00ring.
I think with one-hit wonders like Vanilla Ice or Milli Vanilli, it's too easy. I mean, the punchline is built in. I thought of a few of my own from bands that actually had multi-album careers:
Warrant, "Cherry Pie" -- the double-down of also having one of the worst videos ever made. It was as subtle as getting slapped in the face with John Holmes's schlong.
Michael Jackson, "Black or White" -- Like a Michael Jackson parody recorded by Weird Al, then covered in all seriousness by a Michael Jackson cover band.
Kiss, "Beth" -- At least when Ringo sang, it was funny.
Every Yoko Ono song on John Lennon's "Double Fantasy" album. Scratch that, every Yoko Ono song ever.
Alanis Morissette, "Ironic" -- A song that actually doesn't understand the meaning of its title, maybe a first in recorded music history.
And, maybe because I listened to so much bad metal, I'd have to say Scorpions "Winds of Change." The whistling, the German accent, the banal lyrics, the horror, the horror.

At least that song puts a smile on my face. I mean, it's so unbelievably bad that it develops its own entertainment value.sf_z wrote:Domo arigato Mister Roboto
I will say that Styx "Caught in the Act Live" was the worst concert video I ever saw. Staggering in its Broadway-inspired stupidity. Is there anything worse than a run-of-the-mill bar band trying to be Yes?

I'll raise the ante: Any song by The Scorpions sucked. Germans do commercial pop metal about as well as they do fashion -- not well.
Take care,

LOL, PK, but I'm afraid to admit that I did rock like a hurricaine back in the day.pk500 wrote:Brando:

The Scorpions also did one of the worst covers ever, butchering the fantastic "I Can't Explain" by The Who.

LOL, sf, I remember that. Lord, that was a bad album. "When the heart rules the mind..." Where's the gun so I can shoot my ears?sf_z wrote:Speaking of Yes, I'm reminded of JD Considine's classic review of Yes guitarist Steve Howe's side-project GTR. The review in its entirety was "SHT"
Bozo, that's funny, but at least Yes was interesting musically. Styx was like having Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman play with Foghat.
Gawd yes.sf_z wrote:Domo arigato Mister Roboto
Good list, but c'mon, "The Sounds of Silence" at #46? Now that they've deconstructed it I guess it is a little stupid, but I don't think this belongs anywhere near a list of the worst songs.
Actually I think the motherlode is somewhere in all those eighties stadium bands like Foreigner, Kansas, Journey and of course, Styx.

Of course they exist. You do know he recorded *TWO* albums. Isn't that amazing? Captain Kirk recorded two albums...pk500 wrote:William Shatner's renditions of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Mr. Tambourine Man" are the most hideous songs I've ever heard.

Even though I'm a huge Steelers fan from way back...ever hear Terry Bradshaw's album? It's hideous though not as bad as Captain Kirk's.
The Scorpions were a pretty good band...but they jumped the shark with Love at First Sting, and anything post Love at First Stings is beyond garbage. Listen to their stuff from the 70's and very early 80's, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, Virgin Killers, Fly To The Rainbow, Tokyo Tapes, etc., before they fired their original lead guitarist, good stuff.
