Post by btmgov »

Congrats to Phil and all his fans. A well deserved win and a well fought final round. Congrats to Ernie as well. He played one hell of a final Master's round. As a fan of Phil's since his ASU days, I'm going to go enjoy this..............finally. :D

That was one of the best final rounds of a major I've ever seen.

Heck it's even more impressive because Ernie didn't fold in the end.

I watched that s*** from start to finish and it was definitely rewarding. It was great to see Phil finally win one and the shot of his celebration with the crowd behind him, that was classic. A great moment in sports.

It's so great to watch a shootout for the championship and not a choke job. That was one helluva final round. I've never pulled so hard for a frickin' golfer in my life! I love seeing a guy get the monkey off his back, and he really seems like a good fellow. Congrats to Phil!

I watched that baby from start to finish yesterday and today and I'm damn glad that I did. Hell, I even recorded it today! That tape will be going into my group of all time great sporting events. Unbelievable golf played by Phil, Ernie, Bernhard, and K.J. Probably the best final round since the 1999 U.S. Open when Payne Stewart battled Phil, Tiger, and Vijay down to the wire. Today was and outstanding day for PGA golf and it's fans. Thanks, guys.

Count my wife and I in the Phil-fan camp. We let out a great yelp when he dropped that putt.

A long wait, but he won it in styl!

That was sweet! He buried the "choke artist" label with those birdie putts on 12,13,14,16 and 18. Great win for a great guy!

That's the smartest I've seen Phil play in a major. Lookout, I think he knows how to win these now! I haven't been a Mickelson fan, but I was really rooting for him hard today. The back 9 performance he had today will erase a lot of bad memories for him. This whole final round was just like watching a fairy tale today... unreal how many long shots were holed - they don't write movie scripts as corny as this one sounds! Glad I got to see it, and I could kick myself for not recording it.

I had a feeling that this would be Mickelson's time when I heard an interview with him recently on the Dan Patrick show. He sounded like a different Phil than in the past and his comments suggested to me that he might be getting smarter in his preparation and approach to majors. Either that or Dan Patrick's show now has karma....

Congrats to Phil and if this IS his new approach to majors, then Tiger better be on a flight to Las Vegas to see Butch Harmon ASAP.

It's funny: The only hole of this entire tournament I watched was 18 today. I saw Phil make that approach shot and figured he might be putting for eagle to win instead of birdie to win.

Why? Because he was smiling and so damned relaxed walking up the fairway. I figured all he needed was to two-putt to win. Then Milquetoast Nantz -- back in his real element with golf -- said he needed to make the putt to win.

I figured right then this was Phil's day. He walked up 18 looking so confident, so appreciative of the crowd, so damn triumphant yet he still had to drain that 18-footer to win.

Oh, and Phil got a hell of a break when DeMarco's preceding putt almost mirrored the path of his.

I'm happy for Mickelson. Seems like a very good guy and a family man. Plus any chance to see his wife in the flesh during a tournament is a bonus. :)

Take care,
PK

And now the true reason comes out as to why people actually can stand watching Lefty play golf.

After getting up early to watch Arsenal/Newcastle, I was channel surfing trying to get a nap and I decided to hit the Masters at 11 my time. I saw Phil tee off on the first hole and was engrossed. Watched the damn thing start to finish (and it was beautiful here today). What a great final round. I've never seen a better Masters. This one was even better than when O'Meara won. Well done Phil. A great win for a classy guy who really deserved it and really won it. Ernie did everything he needed to do, but when Phil sunk the birdie on 16 I knew he was going to win. He looked like he knew he was going to as well. Awesome stuff. Cheers Phil!!

I was happy to see him get that monkey off his back. I actually went to high school with him, and he was always a really nice, laid-back guy even though there was already a lot of buzz about his talent. It will be interesting to see how his career takes off from here.

I agree with the sentiments that, had this Masters been a movie, it wouldn't have been believable with the crazy shots and thrilling conclusion.
