Post by Blublub »

Guys, confusion reigns over at Evo-Web at the moment concerning the US and Japanese releases. If you manage to pick up a copy please tell us where and post any first impressions here, particularly how it differs from WE7/PES3.
<BR>
<BR>Some have stated that the two releases really are identical (meaning we get new features). Some have said that the kits use a new encryption method. That would be very bad if true, as it likely would take quite some time for people to crack this again (as was the case with WE7).
<BR>
<BR>In short, though, nobody seems to have played either yet. So if you have, for the love of God let us know!!!

<BR>Which one´s do you have? We7:Jap, PES???
<BR>
<BR>I don´t have either so it would be impossible for me to compare. I know jared will likely be all over it though.

<BR>I hope to have WE7:I (Jap) tomorrow. As for WE7:I (US), I may have that tomorrow as well, though my guess is that it´ll arrive on Thursday.
<BR>
<BR>People that have played WE7:I (Jap) have said that the gameplay is a bit slower than previous versions and seems more deliberate. No new teams, and only one new stadium. Not sure if there are any major ML changes. Looks like the Japanese version is mostly a gameplay tweak. BUT this is all just rumor...I don´t have it yet, so I can´t say.
<BR>
<BR>(Clarification: the above is regarding WE7:I Japan, not the American version.)
<BR>
<BR>I´ll be home tomorrow, so if either game arrives, I´ll post impressions.

I was hoping that mine would somehow be here when I came home today, but it wasn´t. I did come home to a busted water-pipe in my basement...just not the same...However, I received an email from eb games tonight saying it has shipped! <IMG SRC="images/forum/icons/icon_biggrin.gif">
<BR>
<BR>I have scoured the numerous WE/PES forums and I can´t find one person who has played the US version yet. The debate over what version we are getting is raging, if not confusing. Many seem to think that we are getting the updated Japan version and not the PES 3 clone.
<BR>
<BR>The fact that there is so much mystery around this release is really weird. How can NOBODY know what version we are getting? I hope we get an updated version with players on the right teams, but either way I am sure to be consumed by this game.
<BR>
<BR>Here´s hoping that we are all playing tomorrow night,

Found this on the forums at PESfan:
<BR>
<BR>"As you may be aware this week in Japan "Winning Eleven 7: International" is being released. This game is not to be confused with the American release, which is essentially a port of PES3 with a few additional textures. The Japanese version is a completely upgraded version of WE7 (PES3 in Europe). Although this game is not what will be PES4, it is almost certain that all the new features included in that game will make it to PES4 (This is going of the same theory that has been used for all previous ´Final Evolution´ (International this time around) releases). No further news is available at the present time regarding WE8 or PES4.
<BR>
<BR>- Goalkeepers kits can be edited
<BR>- Stadium Names can be edited
<BR>- New animations for penalty kicks: some players won´t run up to the ball but will simply stand beside the football, take one step and shoot
<BR>- Ability to view records of previous 3 matches in ML and league modes
<BR>- 45 players will be available for the Japanese national team
<BR>- Handballs drastically reduced
<BR>- Additional in-game animations
<BR>- Updated players and clubs from season 2003/2004
<BR>"

It´s good to hear that handballs have been drastically reduced for the japanese version. Too bad for us, because the handballs really get annoying. I find the handballs and advantage to be a bit poorly implemented in WE7, and it´s good to hear that they tweaked it in the latest one. WE needs to take a page out of World Tour Soccer´s book on that one. They implemented handballs very well in the 2003 version. They never seemed unfair, or completely random, as they do in WE7, but are rather somehow intuitive, and can clearly be seen on the replay, which can´t be said for WE7. In Konami´s game, handballs also always seem to happen right when you´re threatening to score, too.

Woohoo! In my hot little hands right now. Of course I need to put in a full day at work, and watch the Illinois-Wisconsin game before firing it up, but still...
<BR>
<BR>Quite a day so far. Cubs finish their courtship with Maddux and my receptionist hands me the FedEx package as I walk into the office. So far so good. Impressions to follow.

James - yes that´s the conventional wisdom, but some have since speculated that the US version of WE7-I might actually be identical to the Japanese version of WE7-I, or at least include some of its features. Nobody still knows for sure, since NOBODY seems to have received the US version. I´m hoping someone can post their impressions right away as if they are iindeed the same I´d love to be able to cancel my order for the very expensive Japanese version.
<BR>
<BR>Mo - It´s good to see that the handballs will be toned down, but I have to admit that they haven´t really bothered me that much. Maybe it´s just my players. What I do absolutely hope they have fixed is the often bogus refereeing for the CPU - this is a bit better in WE7, but still needs work. According to early reviews of a warez version over at EvoWeb, there are no new sides, which is a bummer. On a brighter note folks are pretty happy with the gameplay, which apparently emphasizes passing and beefs up headers and crosses.
<BR>
<BR>I´d be delighted if it turned out they had on-pitch refs and linesmen and supported widescreen, but I´m not holding my breath.

I can confirm that WE7:I (Jap) is different from WE7:I (US) [multiple sources]. I might get the Japanese version before the US version, actually (waiting not very patiently for the FedEx guy to come).
<BR>
<BR>Also, we´re putting some previews up of our review of WE7:I (US) on the front page, so go there if you want a taste of what´s to come. <a href="http://www.digitalsportspage.com/module ... d=0">First part</a> is on the new and improved Master League. I´ll write up a loooong piece on gameplay improvements tonight.<BR><BR><font size=1>[ This message was edited by: Jared on 18-02-2004 08:40 ]</font>

If it makes you guys feel any better...the handballs are few and far between in my copy of PES3 (PC). I´ve seen a few of them and they were all legit.

I agree with DB. Handballs have been few and far between in my copy of PES3 (PC). So if WE:I (US) is the same as PES3, you shouldn´t have a problem.

Arrrrgghhhhh! You guys are killing me. I need to put in a full day of work before I can pick up my copy. The thing that makes it worse is that I work for a pro MLS team AND the US - Holland friendly is on at 2:30pm. Too much to handle right now.
<BR>
<BR>Why do I need to work?........oh thats right I need to keep my lights on in my place.

<BR>If it´s different, why I belived, could konami explain how it takes them 3 months to convert essentially it from PAL to NTSC.
<BR>
<BR>Well Jared if WE7:I (Asia) is WE7:FE (like the upgrades of the past FE"s.) I just don´t get why WE7:I took so damn long.

<BR>Do you mean why the US version of WE7:I took so long? Because Konami works at their own pace, basically. I don´t think they´re in a rush to get WE7:I (US) out in the States. There are a few changes from PES3 to WE7:I (US) (haven´t confirmed what they are yet), but I don´t know why those changes took so long. It´s standard Konami procedure though, so I´m not that surprised.

Ya konami works at it´s own pace but I think it´s relective of the division the works on this game. Konami Tokyo doe not seem to have the same business model of that of an EA sports. They are extremely satisfied with what they have even though they are a few features away from completely replacing FIFA as the #1 title of football in the world. Yet they are all too satisfied with minimal features and what amounts to minor upgrades twice a year. But they have a good backbone for the game and that´s what shows. It´s just disspointing when they could do so much more.

Sorry no impressions yet. Game Stop called, they have my game...but one PROBLEM. The wife is having frequent contractions. I´m here at work and was planning on picking the game up after work, but I might have to wait. Ugh! Just kidding. I can´t wait for the birth, but I do wish I just had the game in hand at least. Ohhhhh priorities.

Wow dan, good luck with the birth. I hope your wife does OK and the little one comes put healthy!
<BR>
<BR>As to WE7: just got it, came home, but will NOT have time to post any impressions, as I barely have time to pop it in the machine before heading out to watch the big game.
<BR>
<BR>Butterflies are spinning in the gut, and I don´t think it´s WE7! 40 minutes to kick off, that must be what it is, though I can´t figure out why I care, it is only a friendly. I guess i just want them to play well on European soil for a lot of reasons, one of which is to make a good impression on the anti-Yanks over there.

<BR>Don´t think I haven´t tried. She´s at the mall, but the wrong one. Not the one that has my game reserved. Sooooo, I just casually and politely asked her if she´d mind stopping off at Chesterfield.......not gonna happen was her remark.

Hmmmm....will the PS2 hook up to the hospital televisions in the maternity ward? I´ll be star with the other expecting fathers. Something to ponder....
