New Xbox Live Clubs?

Post by pk500 »

Boys:

Has anyone done any research on the new Clubs introduced to Xbox Live? Would it make sense for us to form a DSP Club, or should we just continue to find each other through Friends lists, Party chat, etc.

I'll investigate this. Just wondered if anyone had any insight about these Clubs.

Thanks.

As soon as I saw this feature I looked it up. There were two "DSP" clubs, but we could go full "Digital Sportspage" or "DSP _____" something. I can set it up tomorrow.

OK, the DSP Veterans of Console Wars club is open for business. The DSP VCW. Fish fry on Fridays, cash bar opens daily at 6 a.m.

I sent invites out to everyone in my Friends list whom I think is related to DSP. If you didn't get an invite, you can request an invite via XBL or post your GT here and I'll send along an invite.

It's sort of a lobby where you can set up parties, chat, etc. Sort of redundant given that our group here is pretty small, but it's free and it might help facilitate some more multiplayer.

What about altered states? Are they allowed in the DSP Club? :)

I've been hoping to play some of the new shooters with you guys. Maybe the DSP club could help? My problem may be is I'm a tired old *#&%$ on the east coast, so I am not up too late.

There are also clubs devoted to individual games where you may find like minded gamers to play online. You can be a member of several clubs.

I started a KOFF club to try and round up some of the guys I used to game with. Anyone here of course is welcome.

Requested an invite (SG Aceman)

Pete, seems like you and I have similar interests. Anytime you see me online and want to play, hit me up.

I'm running, along with two admins, the Club for GWJ. We are up to 92 members at this point, but there has yet to be any real use of the club.

One thing to take into account is that if the club is publicly searchable, which I kind of recommend, you will get a lot of random requests to join. That can get annoying. If I see a name I don't recognize, then I check their profile and friends list for familiar faces. One day we had 18 requests, and I think 2 or 3 of them were not randoms.

But if you make it private, it can also be a pain for people to join. That might be a better solution for DSP, because I don't think it is going to be as large, and this community is mostly about people who post, not lurkers (I assume). I wanted lurkers at GWJ to feel comfortable joining, so making it private would complicate that.

I started the club up in preview, so I was kind of waiting for it to go live to see how it would get used. But really, I get the impression that we all just like to be a part of a club, which is cool. But I can see it as a great place for DSP Dragon clips and other stuff, which might be easier to find and watch when not mixed in with my entire Activity feed. But you do have to share it specifically.

Mainly, Clubs based on forums might be overkill. It seems like a waste to post and chat in the Club, when the forum is a far better format for discussion. But Clubs based special interests, like a specific game, sharing screenshots or clips, or other outside interests seem like a good way to help gamers who don't have forums find other like-minded gamers.

But maybe we can use Clubs as a way to team up and play club vs club in different games, like gears or NHL 17. Right now, clubs mostly seem like isolated and nonsocial places.
