Madden 16

Post by Danimal »

I saw a thread for everything else so...

https://www.easports.com/madden-nfl/features

WR / DB interaction and penalties are my 2 biggest gripes so I thought this news would be welcomed. However the trailer shows the same tired catch animation by the DB and they only mention Pass Interference. Here is hoping something good comes out of this.

My fear is that it WR/DB interaction will be a bit like the QTE actions we got on the DL. Overall, I like the QTE on the DL, but there were definitely balance issues. You throw balance issues into the passing game, and things could get ugly quick.

Honestly, if the they just ironed out the DL play, reducing the number of sacks (maybe that means improving QB evasion) and added penalties, I would be 100% happy with the new game. I thought Madden 15 was outstanding.

From Game Informer, info on Franchise:

http://www.gameinformer.com/games/madde ... -mode.aspx

The visual changes for depth charts are nice, but overall nothing here sounds very exciting.

I feel like Madden has a huge lack of personality, especially when playing solo. If I play NBA 2k or MLB, I usually feel the difference between going against a scrub or a superstar. Madden feels like a group of similar football drones, the only real difference being that some move faster than others. There's so much formation and coaching strategy missing that there's a big disconnect between the game and the sport it's supposed to represent.

Couldn't have said it better. That makes my decision to re-up for EA Access all the more easier.

Playing in season 4 of a 32-person league, season 3 of a 6 person league, and season 1 of a new 8-person league using 2015 draft choices, I feel the polar opposite. Elite players shut down my average ones. Weak personnel are exploited.

In my 32-person league, I did the unthinkable and moved Khalil Mack in season 3's offseason, because 1 superstar did not make my team better overall. The other side of the defense got hammered, and I lost in the divisional round. But the bounty I got for Mack turned it into two above average starters at LB, a 1st round draft choice (#8 overall), and I went into the draft with 4 picks. Came out with 10, and my defense transformed.

The AFC Champs ran for 210 and 330 yards on me in the 2 games the season before, and they were held to 61 and 43 yards in this season, all because I got rid of the weak links and replaced them with stout players. Now, my problem is getting pressure on the passer with Mack gone.

I don't know, I haven't been into Madden all the way through the year in I don't know how long. It's got so much personality to me, whether it's the full league, or barely-anybody-in-it league. My issues have been with the half-baked confidence system and muddy goals. That seems to clearly target both of those, so I'm excited. Take that for what it's worth.

I play mostly MUT right now, and one thing this mode does highlight is how different players are. Like Terry said, it is all about finding those weaknesses and exploiting them, and covering up your own.

The thing is, you can find them in MUT based purely from what you see on the field. You don't have a roster with ratings you can look at to see what your opponent has. You are not even shown what their rating is. The first quarter of every game is all about sizing up your opponent for strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies.

You can't even tell by what players a team uses, because there are different versions of players. You might face a 96 Kaepernick or a 78. But it doesn't take long to figure out. Same goes for LBs and DBs. It takes awhile to figure what OL you can get through. And for as much as they are making out of the WR/DB interactions this season, the game already gives you a great look at how your receivers match-up and you learn pretty quickly what the results are.

Madden may have problems, but I don't see player differentiation, and a lack of formations and strategies as part of those problems.

If you need the game to operate at close to text sim levels of accuracy, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a game in which decision making is rewarded or punished, I think the game is outstanding.

Would anyone be interested in a casual style Madden 15 league on XB1? The idea is to use what I like about MUT, the shorter game time, and use that in a league with normal players. I'm thinking of running one like this for Madden 16, but I'd like to give it a try this summer before the game launches, to see if it really works, and adjust as need be.

the basic rules would be 4 min quarters, no accelerated game clocks, and limiting the use of "chew clock" to the 4th quarter and any time you have the ball inside your opponent's 10 yard line. I usually get around 55-60 plays a game when playing like this, and there is plenty of possessions and strategic gameplay outside of running a two minute offense. But there is a larger chunk of each game in which there is more urgency, since there are fewer possessions.

Obviously, the goal is not sim stats, but competitive games with friends. With the new sim to win available in Madden 16, I can sim every CPU/CPU game to give the team with the worst record the win. That increases the odds that more humans make the playoffs. That's not in Madden 15, though.

I love sim style of play, but I just don't have the time it takes to get in full games, and the shorter games may make it easier for more to play. I think I can get my wife to relinquish the TV for a shorter game (especially since she has now taken up knitting as a big hobby).

I may be wrong and the shorter games may suck for others, but it might be fun to give it a try.

I'm always down for anything Madden. I still play in 3 leagues, but it depends on how often the games are played. 4 minute quarters is pretty crazy short, though. Never tried it to say whether or not I'd like it, but the sim stats for the CPU would be so out of whack the league play seems like a weird idea.

You couldn't develop guys the way you'd want, as they'd miss most of their target goals for catches/yards/tackles/sacks in a game/season, and you'd see CPU teams develop ultra-fast compared to the user teams, as they always sim full 15 minute game stats.

This is the one I run that I started a couple of weeks ago:

http://www.daddyleagues.com/UFL

I know the goal wasn't sim stats, but I think the fact that it's going to hurt team development may be something that's being overlooked.

I didn't think about the development. Is that mostly a year to year thing. I wouldn't mind doing the leagues like I did the old APFB 2K8 league, which is just a series of single seasons. Get a bunch of guys, compete, see who wins, and then start over. Maybe do a fantasy draft one season, last place teams another season, stuff like that.

The idea isn't to sim anything, but to find ways to enjoy the game for what it is. I know I may have a hard time finding folks interested in that, but I figured I would give it a go. I'm trying to grab some folks from GWJ, too, although that site went much more heavily PS4. Some of the guys I've played with in the past don't have XB1's.

As far as trying this with Madden 15, it's to see if there is stuff like the development of players that would just break the game. Then I might just suck it up and try to play in a sim league for Madden 16. Hell, if my wife leaves me, that's just more time, right? :-)

Actually, with my daughter starting college and being out of town, that actually frees up more of my time. So who knows? She leaves in August, the week before Madden 16 drops.

Development can happen every week. No idea about the single-game-single-season stuff, never tried it. Not really my thing, as there are so many fun ways to develop a team and have fun that I've gone nuts this year. I can't recall a year where I ever played Madden so deep into the year. I'm usually done by January, but I'm still playing a game every day, sometimes every other day. Hundreds and hundreds of league games in Madden 15 for me.

I just saw a pig fly over my head btw. :D

My two biggest gripes addressed this year with penalties and WR/DB interaction. I'm cautiously excited

That was just the third of three articles EA put up on gameplay improvements that seem like they have appeared from an alternate dimension in which EA has become the premiere sports sim company of the universe.

https://www.easports.com/madden-nfl/new ... ssing-game

https://www.easports.com/madden-nfl/new ... 16-defense

The first is really long, and really impressive, as far as I am concerned. There seems to be a lot of meat in the gameplay improvements. That might mean, of course, that the game will release but need some severe balancing and tuning. But I'm impressed.

I guess I'm one of a very few who is excited for Madden 16 on EA Access Thursday? I liked last years game a lot and everything I've seen for 16 has me excited to try it. Just to get working penalties is a gift.

My daughter starts at KU this fall and we are moving her in on the 20th. Depending on how long we stay in Lawrence, I don't know when I will get a chance to play the game.

As a fan of MUT, I'm actually really excited about Draft Champions as a fun way to play with teams you create, but without the CCG part that tries to suck money out of your pocket. I just wonder if you can play friends or if you are forced into just solo or playing randoms.

And I'm really excited to see if the penalties really are a factor. And I just hope the new receiver battle controls are well implemented.

No, I am beyond excited. A buddy has been playing it for a little over a week and I've had a lot of info relayed about it.

But again, talking about what they said they improved is pointless in most cases. The overall vibe he gave me is outstanding, even about the aggressive catch getting his guys injured on some attempts, and losing any RAC on deep heaves trying it. Playing the WR had some crazy videos he showed me with DBs reaching around and punching the ball out, etc.

But I'm insanely excited to get my hands on it. I still play several games of 15 per week, and I've never done that before--play one version of Madden daily up until the next release, and from everything I've heard, I'll play even more of 16.

EA Access will give me the time with the game I'll need to decide on a purchase. I didn't purchase M15 but enjoyed it on EA Access. The draft mode looks pretty cool.

10 hours will last me until release day. Very much looking forward to Madden. I'm going to play with the Chiefs as much as I play with what I believe will be the last years of the St. Louis Rams. :(
