Not sure how a game like this doesn't have its own thread, but it releases next week. Judging by reviews, it's set up to be pretty massive.
From the PS4 release on Metacritic alone:
Gamespot gave it a 10, and supposedly it's a game that takes 100 hours to finish for the main story--200 hours to do everything, and the land mass is 3.5 times bigger than Skyrim. That's all well and good, but judging from all the reviews and comments I've seen/read, the map is packed with details that make it more content than just being big for the sake of being big.
The fact that it got delayed until now (it was supposed to release around the same time as Dragon Age Inquisition) is great for me. Now I can just focus on this one for my RPG fix. Anybody else looking forward to this? Every time I see more of it, I'm more blown away.
I've struggled like mad with this series, unable to really connect with the first two games. I don't know exactly why, but I always end up turned off by something.
Obviously, I wasn't too keen on number three until I saw these previews yesterday. I pre-ordered it about 3 minutes later. Maybe this is the one that turns me around, because it looks awesome!

At least between 1 and 2, you can see them grow as a developer. Witch 1 was a cool "first try", but the combat with the "click when the sword icon is flaming" was really odd. Plus it just had a look that was very unusual. Wasn't sure if it wanted to be an over-the-shoulder action game, or an isometric RPG.
Then you see 2 come out, and it handled "mature" subject matter better than anything I've ever seen. There wasn't that black-or-white morality scale. Everything was shades of gray, which I thought was impressive. And it dealt with racism and other things that you wouldn't normally expect a game to tackle. That was incredible at the time. The graphics were one of the most impressive things I'd ever seen at the time, and it still holds up well to this day.
Then you see them deciding to do the same thing with an Open World approach. I think that, to me, is the most impressive thing about this series. When you look at it from a bird's eye view, you see the developer growing by leaps and bounds with every release. The sheer love and care put into each game is what won me over, even past the nagging issues like timing based combat in Witcher 1 and floaty controls in Witcher 2. If you allow yourself to be invested in it, it's really the only game of its kind out there.
You're not out to save the world or become the hero of legend. You're just a crotchety bastard who makes his money killing monsters, and is equally feared and hated by everybody he comes across. And you help settle wars and affect towns. Not so much "stop the demon from destroying the world!" normal fantasy fare.
I've got it pre-loaded already from GoG but had to install their new Galaxy client to do it. I don't play RPG's on my console, I can't explain it but when I try to play them on my giant theater screen I always fall asleep.
I don't think I will finish Pillars by the release which will be a problem. I really can't stop playing that game.

Geralt of Rivia is my boy! Random Eastern European RPGs for the win! All over this since they announced it and have been trying to stay away from all spoilers.
Pre-ordered/pre-loaded on the XBONE. I have a PS4 and I'm sure it'll look better on there but I just like using my XBOX more. I got the PC version as well when GOG had an initial promotion ages ago but I'm fairly certain this game would make mincemeat out of my pedestrian GTX 660. Hoping to buy a new gaming PC in the fall and will probably do a second playthrough on that.
I can understand Rob not getting into previous games in the series - can take some time before the combat clicks.

This is pretty common with worldwide releases. They release at 0:00 GMT on Tuesday, which is 7ET Monday for us. Cool when it's an overseas developer.
I finally found a game I can run at ultra high settings, well at least run and play. Man this is one good looking game and the environments feel so real. My biggest problem is the camera is ultra touchy and it making me feel a bit sea sick when playing too long.

I'd appreciate any feedback on the console versions.
I'm not sure if it's because of frame rate or what but I'm getting that sea sick feeling playing the PC version. I turned all the setting to low and am still feeling the effects.

PS4 version runs fine, but the camera is still a hair twitchy. It doesn't look nearly as good as the PC version, but the Witcher games always had a slightly "odd" camera, IMO. It took some getting used to, and there's almost a little FOV fisheye lens in effect.
I didn't have any issues playing the PS4 version for a few hours last night, though. I only played the PC version for about 30 minutes (but the wife couldn't watch that one, so I spent most of my time on PS4). The PC version runs extremely smoothly for me (no noticeable framerate dips at any point) with everything on ultra, so comparing it to the PS4 is a little tough.
My ran on Ultra but was a bit jerky, on High it ran fine. I'm starting to think my system has something going on. It is taking a lot longer to boot up than it used to.
Maybe I was just feeling off, I just know I can't play the game and enjoy it thinking I'm going to puke so I need to find out what is causing it.

It definitely has a little bit of a wide-angle FOV with a twitchy camera, which could do it, I'm sure.
