Yeah, pretty much. I played it for a bit, and it's nasty. Really gross. But once I got past the first 20 or 30 minutes it seemed to be pretty cool. Story is a bit all over the place, I'm still scratching my head on half the stuff I'm seeing.

I haven't played it long enough to really form an opinion on it, other than the fact that it's nauseatingly gross in parts.

Bought it. Not loving it yet. Feels very stiff & not fun (yet). Prob doesn't help coming straight from Mordor which was near perfect 'fun'. Going to it give it a few more, but who knows.

Which version TC?

I've heard all sorts of issues with PC versions.

PS4. It definitely has some janky animations and stilted voice acting...it's most definitely a "Japanese" game, but that's part of its charm, IMO. It's nowhere near as smooth as something like Shadow of Mordor.

But there's a slightly claustrophobic feel to it with the letterbox view (which I haven't found a way to disable yet), and the sneaking around is done really well. After playing so much Alien and feeling helpless, it's nice to be able to whack the bad guys back or shoot them in the face.

Overall (and I'm only on like chapter 3), it feels closer to old school Resident Evil and less like Dead Space 3 or anything. It's got just about perfect balance where I always finish encounters with something like 2 rounds left, and I'm walking around at half health almost all the time.

But it's a good survival horror game so far. It's just going to definitely be something of a culture shock for somebody coming straight from Mordor, for sure.

Honestly the only survival horror game I really enjoyed was the first resident evil. I'm on the fence between this and Alien Isolation as my next purchase.

For what it's worth, I've never been a survival horror fan and I'm loving Alien: Isolation. I'm about halfway through and my wimpy ass is playing on easy. Alien is one of my all time favorite films. It's a work of art. Isolation absolutely nails the atmosphere and dread of the film. It's not a perfect game but if you're a fan of the film it's a must buy. The graphics, especially the lighting and use of volumetric fog, are amazing (outside of some crappy facial animation) and the sounds design is unbelievably good. You rarely ever feel safe in that game. It can be punishingly hard but it's worth it.

Alien Isolation has much higher production values and really conveys a sense of dread that I don't get from many games. Their first-person method of exploration is something that will be copied in future games, I bet. Using the LB lets you peek over desks and around corners, crouching automatically slides under counters and tables, etc. You hold LT and pull back on the left stick to "hold your breath" when hiding in a locker or something.

But it's definitely a game where you're a squishy meatbag just waiting to die for a long time in the beginning. The Evil Within is much closer to a RE game where you can fight back and have a chance. Depends on what you're looking for. I've played a lot of games like Evil Within, but never played anything like Isolation before. If I had to pick one, it's Isolation and it's not even close.

*EDIT* Yeah, I'm on board with LAKing, too...
