OT: Youtube Posting Question

Post by DChaps »

I feel like a complete idiot for asking, but I could not find a previous post that gives me a definitive answer to this question.

What is the proper DSP Forums syntax to embed a Youtube video? I have done it before, and even edited previous posts to look at the syntax, but now when I do that it does not work. I have actually posted a couple youtube videos from my channel in the Forza 5 thread and The Golf Game thread, but the only way I can get it to actually embed is to post two lines as shown below (remove asterisks). If I remove either line, it does not work, only if I post both. I do not believe it used to work that way.

[***youtube]http://youtu.be/o9o_X5dJWDk[/youtube***]

[***youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9o_X5dJWDk[/youtube***]

I know that cannot possibly be the correct way to embed and I am doing something stupid, but just can't get it figured. For example, what if I want to embed the following video, starting 2:50 seconds into it. What would the correct syntax be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found that copying the video itself and removing the "s" in https:// works.

So where the link is this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnNCcPr ... page#t=170

I take the s out and enclose it in youtube brackets and get:

And don't feel like an idiot. I struggled with it quite a bit the other day before finding a magical combination. Maybe we're the only two idiots on the board, but at least you're not alone.

However, I don't know how to start it at 2:50, or whether that even works. The same link to do it in Youtube doesn't transfer externally that I've seen.

Normally you can do stuff like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnNCcPrtGac&t=2m50s

But that doesn't work that I've seen.

Thanks Terry, I could swear I tried removing the s before, but I guess not. Maybe the auto forward to the time in the video doesn't work in the embed code for the DSP forums. Thanks again for your help!

I've never gotten a video to start at a certain point in an embedded video, only linking to Youtube.

But yeah, taking the "s" out works for me every time.

Not a dumb question! I have been going into the mobile version of Youtube on my ipad (as compared to the YouTube app) and hitting the link/email option, copying and pasting it using the 'youtube' brackets, and then deleting the email before I send it! 8O Friggin' pain in the ass.
