Paul George fractures leg - out for season

Post by JackB1 »

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-bas ... leg-injury

I didn't see this injury, but I heard it was gruesome.
The Pacers can forget about their season with no George
and no Stephenson.

Brings up the question about letting NBA stars play in International
competitions? If you were an owner, would you be willing to risk
your star players getting injured during the offseason?

The video made me cringe and certain nether-regions shrivel up.

You'll see more elite players skip events like the World Cup and the World Championships. But all of the top guys still will want to play in the Olympics, especially if they didn't play in the previous Team USA lineup.

Injuries normally don't wig me out. Hell, I like watching surgery on the Discovery Channel. But the video of George's injury made my sphincter pucker. I watched it five or six times just to compute what was happening. Surreal.

Pacers suddenly dropped into the bottom half of the Eastern Conference playoff picture, if not further. Vogel will earn his money this season.

I've seen a few legs snap in the octagon and it is definitely gruesome. That slow-motion replay was hard to watch.

The thing that the USBA will be criticized for is that the configuration of the court with the goals is different than in the NBA. A lot less clearance in that stadium than in NBA stadiums, supposedly..

Yep. Damn good point. It's one of the reasons an All-Star Game doesn't take place in Vegas despite the ideal location for champagne-ing and campaigning, with full credit to Jalen Rose for that phrase I love!

The back of the stanchion was almost in the tunnel in the Thomas & Mack Center, yet the stanchion was much closer to the court than an NBA hoop. No bueno.

Yada Yada...the stanchion location means jack sh*t in the grand scheme of things. If these guys weren't playing organized USA ball they'd be playing in high school gyms and crappier courts than they'd ever see at T&M. That's what basketball players do...competition fuels them and it doesn't matter where they play, they are going to play. It's a fluke injury that will not change anything going forward. Guys are going to get hurt in the summer...they're gonna get hurt in the season. It's just a bad bad injury in an exhibition and people are overreacting.

Love to the Cavs for Wiggins, Bennett and a protected 2015 1st rd pick. Nice haul by the Wolves. LeBron better win with the team he assembled. Do the Cavs even need a GM?

Their GM is actually quite good. Dave Griffin. He was with the Suns when my mom worked for the GM at the time Steve Kerr as the assistant GM. He was the dude who pushed HARD for the Suns to draft Goran Dragic (well have San Antonio draft him FOR the Suns to be accurate). So he's definitely got an eye for talent. Just so happens he lucks into this whole Lebron situation. Good for him. He def. worked his ass off for the Suns...got in at an entry level job and now he's a GM.
