OT: Antivirus software
What are your guys recommendations for antivirus software? I recently purchased my son a computer, and would like to protect it as best as possible. I'd prefer something affordable (or free). Are the free ones just as good as the paid ones?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: OT: Antivirus software
I use MS Security Essentials....free, effective and updated often if not daily..
Re: OT: Antivirus software
If it's running Windows 8, there's no need for an additional AV software as Windows Defender part of OS (MSE in Windows 7) is quite good and requires little resources. If you have Windows 7 then download Microsoft Security Essentials from the MS website. It does updating and scanning in the background.

Re: OT: Antivirus software
My son managed to load the Windows Defence Unit spyware software on our computer and it's taken over! I'm running malware bytes right now and so far there are 82 objects detected. From what I could tell, Windows Defneder had not been enabled.
So far, this a big headache!

Ding-ding. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. MSSE is a rarity for a Microsoft product -- free and outstanding.DivotMaker wrote:I use MS Security Essentials....free, effective and updated often if not daily..

Defender for Windows 8 seems quite good so far and the spyware protection works well too.

Is there a recommended ad blocker? Malware bytes worked well and now am using Defender.
