Anyone install this app on their pc or device? I did, but I am not sure what
I am supposed to use it for? I don't really need another remote for my 360
when I have the regular controller handy. What am I missing? I am not sure
what use I will have for this?
XBox Smartglass?

I installed it on my iPad and also installed the Sony version of it as well. Both apps are gimmicky at best. For me the best experience is using a PS Vita as a PS4 remote and being able to stream games from it onto the handheld.
Re: XBox Smartglass?
I use it quite a bit to check my friends list and see who's online. It's a lot quicker than booting up the 360. It's also great for messages because typing on the iPad is much, much better than hunting and pecking with the controller. When watching videos via an app such as Netflix or Amazon instant, it works as a handy remote to pause or rewind or what not.
The Xbox One version is used by a number of games to provide a second screen option. For example Battlefield will show you a nice zoomable, scrollable live map for the match you are in, and Madden will show you lots of handy stats during a game as well as show you what plays your opponent has used during that game in whatever situation. It can be pretty useful that way. Also it lets you access people's game clips and so it's a nice additional way to scroll around and check out what friends have been doing.
I'm sure that going forward, more and more Xbox one games will utilize it as a second screen option. It's free and I use it from time to time, so I'm a fan.

Doesn't have much use yet.. except my daughter thinks it's cool to have a remote on her iPhone. I'm guessing developers will have some sort of use for it?
Re: XBox Smartglass?
So if I have it linked to my PC, I can run the game on the 360 and actually play it on my PC?Rodster wrote:I installed it on my iPad and also installed the Sony version of it as well. Re: XBox Smartglass?
No, that's a function specific to the Vita and PS3/PS4 games. You can stream the game from the PS# to the Vita and play on your handheld.
Re: XBox Smartglass?
I don't use SmartGlass much at all, except, very occasionally, as a controller, while using the my console, One or 360. I thought the info provided during Madden games was actually really useful, but looking at a second screen is still really awkward. I had the same problem with Forza: Horizon, which had a really useful map that you could use to plot destinations that would tell the game where to breadcrumb trail should head to. But still, I found using a second screen to be more distracting than useful.
The only plus side is that you don't have to spend a dime on it, as it will load on a device you already own. So if you do find that one use, or one game, that you think it is useful, then it is worth having. Like Zeppo, when away from the console, it does manage messaging and your friends list well. That's enough to have it around on my phone, iPad, and laptop. But it is far from necessary.
