F1 2013 Race Night

Post by Zeppo »

Folks:

Let's give this a shot, shall we?

It's Tuesday, and so far Tuesdays and Thursdays seem to be the nights most have said they can race. The Wold Series doesn't start until tomorrow, so tonight's the night!

As always, we will do 25% races with the 15 minute qualifying session, safety car On, weather Dynamic, 2013 car performance with driver's choice of car. Rules and flags will be set to Realistic, Parc Fermė Off, damage and collisions set to Full. All assists except brake assist will be allowed.

I'd like to try Suzuka, because that was the most recent real life race and because I do so love that race track. Adam, PK and I tried Suzuka last week but the race got borked when PK got booted.

If we get the chance to do a second race, it might be fun to try some classic cars, but I'd love to hear any and all suggestions.

10 pm EDT would be the time to get together, and I'd hope to jump into the qualifying session by 10:10.

Who's in?

I won't be racing Thursday. I'll be watching the World Series.

It seems that I imagined a greater number of responses to my question about what nights would be good in the general F1 2013 thread than there actually were. Wishful thinking, to be sure. Turns out, only Don and PK actually gave an answer :D Having seen dave2eleven post times in Don's challenge, noticing J. Cauthen appearing online in the game on XBL, as well as Toper, FIFA, and so on, I had been hopeful we could rally six or eight guys for a race night tonight. I even sent out an XBL message to those who I thought had the game yet hadn't responded in either thread.

Alas, it was apparently all in my mind. Maybe next Tuesday we can get a more enthusiastic following. Here's to hoping.

See you guys tonight.

Then I will be racing alone and trying to figure out what the hell race net is cause I wont be watching that.

I never voted on a race night cause I just downloaded it yesterday

I was online pretty much alone for the last two race nights of 2012.... so...so ...so...welcome to the club. :P

plus there is still a chance I will show up tonight and slam into something , anything and often!

Sorry I bailed out last night right after the race. I was just too tired and I'd had a really awful race. Maybe we'd be better off doing 5 lap races with the one-shot qualifying and no AI. It would mean a lot fewer headaches worrying about everyone getting into the room and would be a much simpler experience. I can do the longer races I like either offline or in random onlne rooms.

I don't get what is going on with my setup. I was able to race randoms no problem. It seems that it has to do with the Party Room setup. I could never race with you guys in Forza Horizon either, but I could run with randoms from a quick matchup without problems. Thanks for trying. It was fun listening while I was trying to hotlap. I can't get it right at Jerez no matter how hard I try.

That was fun, glad I was able to join up. Most likely I'll be going without a mic during late-night sessions due to my current set-up, but I was finally able to get the headset working so I could hear everyone.

F'ing Perez killed my race. Him cornholing Simo set off a chain reaction that took off my front wing and pushed me into a 2-stop strategy. My second set of tires were destroyed by lap 10, but with a low fuel load and options the car was flying for the final few laps.

Not sure how often I'll be able to play online, but two weeks from now will definitely be able to work for me.

I'm fine with the longer races or shorter ones, this game is awesome.

Very enjoyable last night. John the Cat jumped into my lap early at Austin and sent me careening into the front stretch wall. Can't rip the Old Man, though: He's a legend in winter. Too old to know any better at 18.

Eager to race again! This game is fantastic.

What's your Nat setting? I've seen similar situations as it's typically a moderate or restricted nat that is having a conflict with someone in the group.

Good fun last night for sure. I'm good with the 25% race length but will do whatever the group decides. I could do without qualifying as by the end of the first turn it's all out the window anyway.. However I guess qualifying does allow those of us who do not know every inch of the track to get a bit more familiar.

I figured there must have been some sort of knock-on effect when I saw you go wide at the end of the lap and immediately pit. Perez just drilled me going into the esses and fired me straight off the road. I think I might have got tied up with XXXIV as I rejoined and I'm positive I had contact with Fifa in the esses on lap 2, trying to pinch 2 places after he put a great move on Van Der Garde at turn 1 - I think I held my line but I'm not sure, so apologies to all if any of that was my fault.

I'm happy with whichever race format the majority prefers. 5 lap blasts sound a lot like rFactor poker nights from days of old but the longer races show off a lot of this game's strengths, especially with regard to tyre wear and strategy, so whatever works for everyone else is fine by me.

Edit: speaking of rFactor poker nights...Jimmy, where are you? This thing's f*cking awesome, mate. Same goes for Grant, Mix...come one, come all, come marvel.

FIFA, for me qualifying is all about getting a few laps under our belts before a race. Having more than one or two runs through turn one alleviates the majority of turn one disasters once the race begins. It's when people jump cold into a race that you most often see total unavoidable carnage.

The bonus is that they set up online qualifying so well that I find it enjoyable in its own right, not only giving us all a chance to run laps, but also to mess with a few settings adjustments and also have that bit of competitiveness fighting for pole.

I greatly prefer longer form races, but a lot of my insistence on that comes from the days when we used to race a lot more often in more arcadey types of games. So instead of being a change of pace like the old ToCA DTM league races were, these twenty minute races are all we are getting a chance to do,

Five-lappers with one-shot quali could be a lot of fun with or without AI, but I really like how this game plays out in longer stints with the tires and all that. I just got the sense last night that people weren't enthused about the 25% format, but it was probably just me being tired and cranky and frustrated with the connectivity issues.

Right now, I'm just super psyched that there is a good following for this version, much more like what happened with F1 2011 when PK returned to XBL than the veritable desert we suffered through in F1 2012. I'm really happy to see so many guys embracing the game and being exited about it.

Yep. You're right. I did make contact with you on lap two. Sorry about that. (I was adjusting my helmet and then was sending a text... totally distracted ;)

Witnessed some of the carnage.

Was fun just hunting down Pic, the bastard ai car, who wrecked any shot of a top ten finish.

So true. This game should be mandatory for DSP folks. Everyone can enjoy this game regardless of skill level. We have the fast guys at the front of the pack, the not as fast guys behind them and somewhere about a 1/2 lap behind them there's XXXIV and I passing beers back and forth going down the back straight.

Simply put, the game is too damn fun to not be playing.

I prefer 25 percent races. Gives time to recover from early mistakes and also puts the klieg lights on the superb tire wear model and strategy options available in this brilliant game. Longer races also put more emphasis on consistency, which can help eliminate first-corner, first-lap wrecks due to impatience.

Gaylord F. Bubblyhelmet, the queer baron of velocity, is back. That's all I need to be sold on this game. :)
