COD: Ghosts
New Squad mode has piqued my interest.
"Once you have a Squad, you can play with them either solo, co-op or competitively in four different Squad-based modes. The first is Squad vs. Squad, which pits you and up to five of your AI-controlled squad mates against another player and their five squad mates. The second is Wargame, which pits you and your team of five AI soldiers against a team of bots — this mode can utilize any gametype available in the core competitive multiplayer experience. Then there's Safeguard, which pits your Squad against waves of AI enemies.
The final mode is arguably the most innovative: In Squad Assault, either you and five AI squad mates or five other actual players square off against a six-person AI Squad created by another player. You can either matchmake to find a Squad to play against, or choose to fight a friend's offline team. The map and mode that your offline Squad will defend can be chosen ahead of time, and your AI-controlled Squad can even earn you XP if they perform well while you're offline."

Re: COD: Ghosts
I thought I pre-ordered for Xbox One, but Ashley from Gamestop called to tell me to pick up my game. Since they have a $10 trade up option for Xbox One, I got it for 360 yesterday.
I played the first few levels of the Campaign. Same old COD, but I still enjoy the gameplay. Arcade shooting gallery fun. Could care less about the story, never did in any of these games. Played two maps in muliplayer. One was just way too big, but it did slow down the game from the usual hectic kill/spawn cycle. Same old COD MP. I haven't tried the Squad mode or the Extinction (alien horde) mode yet.
I'm thinking that 2 1/2 weeks may be enough time to spend with this. Gamestop kid confirmed that with trade in plus my $10 I'll get a sealed new copy of XBox One version. At this point I plan on returning that and put it towards a different Xbox One title.

Re: COD: Ghosts
I'll have this one later today. I have been enjoying CoD lately and feel like this new one should provide me a good amount of fun. I am not expecting it to be any different than the normal formula so I'm okay with that.
I am interested in Squad and Extinction modes.

Holy crow am I awful at this one. Kept getting shot from behind/above. Maps seem more open and have more tricky corners/niches than in BLOPS2. Also, spawn camping maybe an issue? Spawned and died immediately several times.

Care to elaborate? SP or MP?Wilk5280 wrote:God this game is awful. It's the worst game of the franchise IMO

I just feel it's bland, the map design is pretty downright terrible, and maybe I'm just suffering from burnout. My ranking of the CoD games (in the console online shooter age) goes a little something like this:
MW
BLOPS
BLOPS 2
World at War
MW3
MW2

On the left, Modern Warfare 2. On the right, the 'brand new' Ghosts:

Re: COD: Ghosts
Not trying to stir anything up but BF4 (and 3) are soooo much better than the Cod series. It's not even close. I've really been enjoying BF4 and can't wait for the XBone version on the 22nd. I'm already a level 10

Absolutely. I've always been a fan of Battlefield, but have also enjoyed playing CoD (and have played way more of both than I care to admit). However, I am just not into Ghosts at all, it's nothing more than "meh" for me. BF4 on the other hand gets better and better with each round. Can't wait to check it out on PS4.

Re: COD: Ghosts
I was talking to some guys at work about BF vs COD today, and we discussed several things:
1. Most hardcore FPS players prefer one or the other and don't play both. in fact, if you're a BF fan, you despise COD and vice versa. I dabble in both, but I'm not hardcore.
2. COD has the leg up on game modes. I can setup Black Ops or Black Ops 2 with bots and don't even have to go online. If you don't play online then sorry but BF is a coaster.
3. BF has beaten COD on graphics and straight up gameplay. You can't drive vehicles or blow up building walls in COD unless its a cutscene. If BF would ever install a free-for-all game mode, or have split-screen/bots gameplay, COD would be done.
4. COD developers have gotten lazy and don't take chances anymore. Also I read somewhere that they expected to blow GTAV sales out of the water. Guess they were owned.

Re: COD: Ghosts
I did the next gen trade up at Gamestop. My used 360 copy plus another $7.20 and I now have a brand new sealed XB1 version. I'm finished with Ghosts so I'll be exchanging it for another XB1 game or preorder.

I just picked this up for the PS4. I suck at shooters, but this one seems a bit forgiving (aside from the stupid dog parts).
Re: COD: Ghosts
I picked it up for XB1.. typical COD, but fun nonetheless.

Re: COD: Ghosts
Well call me crazy but I'm really enjoying this on the PS4. Maybe it's because I haven't played a COD game in a few years but I find the variety of missions enjoyable and the graphics are eye popping. Yes it's on rails and as others have said "it's COD" but here's what has really made it enjoyable, the pacing. Every 10-15 minutes I feel like I'm doing something different, choppers, diving, sniping, etc. And most importantly, playing on "Regular" difficulty, I'm getting through it without growing tired or frustrated. Now, I have not played online because I know that's where massive levels of frustration will likely show up as at 42 I just don't have the finger gymnastics to compete with the kids who eat, drink and sleep COD multiplayer. But campaign for me, as I said, has been very enjoyable.
Re: COD: Ghosts
Totally agree Rally. I love the variety in missions so far. Put in about 2 hours yesterday. Multiplayer is still a 'quick twitch' shooter but that's what you expect with COD games. The campaign has be fabulous so far.RallyMonkey wrote:Well call me crazy but I'm really enjoying this on the PS4. Actually, college age and above are the best players...little kids are almost universally terrible.RallyMonkey wrote:Well call me crazy but I'm really enjoying this on the PS4. The average COD player is awful, anyway. Like any game/genre you have to put in the time, but age is no barrier.
I'm definitely above average in Battlefield and COD at the ripe old age of 45.

When I said "kids" I was referring to college age-ish. I'm pretty sure I could kick the hell out of my 13 year old daughter every day of the week!skinsfan wrote:Actually, college age and above are the best players...little kids are almost universally terrible.RallyMonkey wrote:Well call me crazy but I'm really enjoying this on the PS4. And it's tough to "put in the time" when you're married with kids and every time I jump on I'm dead within seconds over and over again. Not the way I want to spend my ever dwindling gaming time.
Re: COD: Ghosts
Single player campaign couldn't have been more than 10 hours. Am I missing something? Does it really end after the train part?
Re: COD: Ghosts
haven't played through all of the single player, but 10 hours sounds about right for CoD
